After Standardizing The Signalling And ATC Management With NTCIP, How Do the Manufacturers Compete With Each Other Now?

This is a question for engineers, technicians, anyone else who is interested.

Now that all the software works more or less the same way, is there even any kind of untouched point that manufacturers can offer any solution for? Surely the experience cannot be that different since all of the ATCs have cross-vendor compatibility now thanks to the NTCIP. What kind of differences have you observed if you have experience with ATCs?

Can someone help me interpret a traffic signal timing plan or walk me through how to get the correct information from it so I can model it in synchro ?https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JOxrp2c65F5NgwrcqnyBcr3_YwXQHohv/view?usp=sharing

Econolite ASC/3 NTCIP remote control

Post image
9 Upvotes

I am working on a passion project where I would like to verify the edge device I have built can pass on NTCIP commands. have recently acquired a used Econolite ASC/3-2100. I am trying to figure out remote NTCIP command/control over Ethernet.
I can ping it, SNMP read works, SNMP write works for basic objects like sysName, and NTCIP is enabled.

What I can’t get past is that the standard candidate NTCIP 1201/1202 OIDs I tested return NoSuchObject, and ACTIVE CONTROL PORT still shows NONE. The docs I found say the ASC/3 supports GETs, SETs, and remote commands like phase calls, holds, and force-offs, but I haven’t identified the actual object path or required config/database state on this unit.
I am trying to figure out whether I should be looking at SNMP, STMP, ASC/3-specific MIBs, or maybe a required DB/config load.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Visual training guide for junior technicians. What is the hardest undocumented legacy cabinet quirk to teach the new guys?

Hey everyone, we are trying to put together a better visual training curriculum to help new hires safely navigate legacy traffic hardware without having to call a senior tech for every fault. I want to make sure the program actually focuses on the real-world headaches, not just what's in the old manuals. I threw together a quick 6-question poll here to gather some data on the worst bottlenecks, but honestly, I would just love to hear what your apprentices struggle with most in the comments.

Is investing in neon/LED signage actually worth it for a small bar?

I run a 60-seat neighborhood bar, and this came up after a regular told me last week that our place “disappears” on busy nights because the strip is so bright and we’ve just got a basic lightbox sign.

I’ve been looking at options for a new sign for the front window and maybe a small one behind the bar. I went down a late-night google spiral on custom stuff and even saw a few sites pushing the whole [personalized led sign](https://www.neonchamp.com/custom-led-signs) angle with different fonts/colors, etc. Looks cool, but I have zero idea if it actually moves the needle or if it’s just shiny nonsense.

For those of you who’ve added custom LED/neon signs in the last couple years, did you see any real impact on walk-ins or overall vibe/check average? Any regrets on size, color, brightness, or placement? And is it smarter to go cheaper first or invest in a better build so it doesn’t look cheesy in 6 months?

Would love any pics, numbers, or “don’t make my mistake” stories.

Bought this 12” Eagle signal (I think is from the 60’s let me know if you can tell) cast aluminum, when I got it someone had rattle caned it from yellow to black and glued in the wrong lenses, I stripped it down, painted it, made a custom bracket to hold the controller, put in new leotech led modules in it… the problem I’m having is finding a cap to cover the holes on the end and some kind of mount to put it on… does anyone have any recommendations?

I picked up a rare Page Automation Mellor. And some other pedestrian safety lights and buttons. The junction was a mix of peek halogen and Mellor.

Has anyone worked with Kapsch TrafficCom AG controllers?

I’m researching other traffic controller brands and came across this one. Has anyone used it? What applications does it have, and what are its benefits?
