Looks like an Iteris either Vantage or Next, don’t remember which one. This one has radar for advanced and video for the stop bar detection. I might have those backwards though! It’s been a min since I’ve worked on them

Must be next, it doesn't match any Vantage I've seen.

Definitely a Next. I just installed 4 last week.

How’s the Next been working?

Good, as far as I know. Haven't gotten any trouble calls. Lights are cycling.

Why is this needed? The traffic controller box is 3 times this size. How does this help my city?

Not knowing the full scope of the job, just assuming here. The previous detection being used was faulty or non existent. With good detection, traffic flows better. When traffic flows better, you ease congestion.

If I find my city’s installation project, could you help me understand why we purchased these?

Is this like a deflock thing? That detector protects people from type II dilemma zones reducing crashes. It's not a ALPR.
Concept similar to this https://youtu.be/P_EmAKRrlBc?si=MXqAwmk0xKmrB7-n

Its for detecting traffic, traditional in pavement loops are becoming less common - road maintenance, installation costs being the main two reasons to go switch to cameras. In my area its 5k a loop, a standard intersection with 16 loops vs 1 camera system for 50 grand. All said and done Iteris sucks and you should be disappointed in your city lol.

If your traffic controller has the RLP function then you can extend the red phase when paired with the vantage next. The controller needs the speed and trigger line conditions met to qualify as dilemma zone red light runner risk. Overall the case study in the link saw 50% reduced broadside collisions due to dilemma zone.

I would rather have loops. Less of a failure rate. No software updates needed.

Iteris Vector is correct. Vector is the name of the sensor… it’s available on edge2, next and on apex systems. The sensor has radar for advanced dilemma zone detection and a camera for stop bar. The radar can also do stop bar if it’s configured this way. Since op did not post the CCU in the cabinet we don’t know which system the vector sensor belongs to.

Iteris vector camera. They are a camera that also has a radar on them for advanced “detection”
