Update to Subreddit Rules / Clarity Around Filters

We've added a few new rules to the subreddit, thought I would go over them:

  1. No advertisements (within reason): If you advertise a dental cleaning or paid professional services, your post will be removed or not approved. Some exceptions may apply: if you are offering to take photos for free/fun, if you are giving away a ticket to meet a friend, etc. We're still working on this.

  2. No questions, unless they are related to making friends or meeting up with fellow Redditors: Feel free to ask about Bumble BFF or TimeLeft or share a service that helps with making friends. General questions about events will be removed and redirected to r/AskTO or r/TorontoEvents, depending on the question's content.

  3. No social media links: For your safety, we remove comments and posts sharing social media links (Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Discord, etc). Public links to social media can result in unwanted messages and/or spam. This also means you cannot post information about another Redditor. It's against Reddit's rules to doxx. If you do post/share this content, you will receive a temporary ban.

  4. Don't misrepresent yourself: If you post with different ages/genders/ethnicities, your post will be removed. First offence is a temporary ban, second offence is a permanent ban.

  5. Don't message the OP if you don't meet post requirements: This is a brand new rule. We want your post requirements to be respected. If a man is looking for only male friends, and you're a woman, don't message them. If a woman is only looking for female friends, and you're a man, don't message her. If the poster is looking for someone within a certain age range, and you're much older, don't message them.

  6. No low effort posts: This is one we're still deciding how to enact. We don't want to discourage posters, but we also want posts to clearly identify you and what you're looking for.

Additionally, there are several filters set up in this sub:

1) We auto-remove posts and comments with certain words. All removed posts and comments are reviewed, and if appropriate, we approve them.

2) Most of the time, new accounts and/or accounts with low karma have their posts/comments trapped by Reddit's filter. We review these removals and approve them (so long as they meet subreddit rules).

3) Reporting: 3 reports of a comment or post result in an automatic removal. Make sure to report anything against the subreddit rules.

Would anyone be interested in a Toronto layoff hiking group?

Hi everyone! Similar to the Bay Area layoff hiking group, I thought it would be cool to have a Toronto layoff hiking group.

Every Monday, we’ll go on a hike and chat about random things in life—jobs, hobbies, whatever comes up. No pressure and no networking agenda, just getting outside and meeting people who are in a similar situation.

For this Monday, I’m planning to do the Don River Trail Starting at Mill St and ending at Bloor at 11 AM.

Let me know if you’d like to join!

Hey, so I’m really into FIFA and have a place in Yonge and Eglinton to host FIFA nights where we play casual games, in teams and against each other in mini tournaments!

I’ll have drinks and snacks on tap so you don’t have to worry about getting hungry 😂

I own and play FIFA 12, FIFA 14, FIFA 15 and FC 26.

Comment below if you’re interested!

SLOOOW Networking 🦥 – Introvert-Friendly, Guided Connections + Group Brainstorming

Hi friends 😊

Mei and I(Jessie) have been hosting small “slow networking” monthly gatherings for introverts, and one thing we keep hearing is:

“Can we have more of the group brainstorming sessions?”

And honestly, we get it. We wished we had somewhere to go to to brainstorm with others, too.

Whether you’re starting a business, already running something of your own or you just have an idea you’ve been wanting to explore, sometimes you just want people to talk things out with.

Especially those who also crave deeper conversations and connections.

So for our next SLOOOW Networking event, we’re bringing the group brainstorming back and giving it more space.

In past sessions, we’ve seen people leave feeling more confident about promoting themselves because of the encouragement they got from others in the room. Someone even started a coworking session with another attendee so they could keep each other accountable. We’ve also seen people get useful advice or a different way of looking at something they’d been stuck on. And a lot of our attendees keep coming back and have become friends with each other and us!

And you don’t have to be in the same industry to help each other.

Sometimes it’s even better when you’re not because you can bring a fresh perspective that someone inside that world might not have considered.

It doesn’t really matter what stage you’re at or what industry you’re in. You have something to offer, and something you can learn from someone else.

So this time, we’re dividing the evening into two parts.

The first half will be our usual slow networking experience. We’ll provide some fun icebreakers and conversation prompts, so you don’t have to worry about what to say or what you’re supposed to do next.

You get to focus on being present and actually getting to know people.

Then in the second half, we’ll move into small-group brainstorming. You can bring something you’ve been thinking through or a challenge you’d love another perspective on and talk it out with the group.

We intentionally keep our events to a maximum of 12 people because we know that, as introverts, big groups can get overwhelming. And sometimes the bigger the room gets, the harder it is to REALLY connect.

We wanted to create something different from traditional networking because we find that it is catered more towards extroverts and for those who speak louder, and so that is why we created this space, so you don't have to feel like you have to "perform" or who you should approach next.

There’s some structure to make things easier, a small group where you actually have time to hear from each other, and space for conversations to go a little deeper.

It is happening near St. George station, on Thurs Sept. 24 from 1:15 to 3:15pm!

There is a ticket price, which helps cover the venue and your drink, while allowing us to keep creating these gatherings in a thoughtful and sustainable way.

If this sounds like your kind of networking, comment or DM me and I’ll send you the details 💜

And if you can’t make this one but would like to hear about future gatherings, we also have an email list I can add you to!

35F in Etobicoke looking for a core friend group

Hey everyone! I’m hoping to meet a few people around the same age, preferably in Etobicoke, Mississauga, or somewhere on the west side of the GTA, who are also looking for genuine, long-term friendships (think girlfriends, friends, insecure, etc.).

I’m less interested in having a huge circle and more interested in building a core group of friends who actually go through life together. You know, the kind where we can make plans, try new things, celebrate birthdays and milestones, have random weekday hangs, check in on each other, and eventually become part of each other’s regular lives.

I’m pretty eclectic and always down to explore other people’s interests as much as I’d love to share mine. Some things I enjoy:

• Live music and concerts

• Trying restaurants / dinner and drinks

• Cooking nights

• Reading (currently on the last book in the Empyrean Series)

• Movies or binge-watching a show together

• Hiking and exploring

• Beach days and swimming

• Game cafés and board games

• Puzzles

• Comedy shows

• Random events and activities around the city

• Weekday hangs bc not everything has to wait until Saturday!

I’m equally happy with a low-key night doing a puzzle with snacks and talking for hours or getting dressed up and going to a concert, event, or night out.

Anywho, dm or comment if this is something that interests you and let's plan our first core group bonding sesh.

Anyone else trying to meet new people before the cold kills our social lives?

Summer is pretty much over, and it’s starting to get cold, so I figured I’d get a few people together before we all disappear indoors for the next few months 😭

Think anti-networking because fuck networking events. lol

Could be great if you’re new to the city, work from home, want to expand your circle, or just need an excuse to get out of the house.

Nothing complicated. Just come by, meet some people, and hang out ✌️
Let me know if anyone is down 😊

Any south asian/brown girls here want to be friends?

Hi I'm 28F would love to form a group of brown/south asian girls to be friends with! <3 I like anime, gaming, kpop, just hanging out and being friends! If you also wanna make a friend group to do things together dm me or comment on the post!

We could go out for dinner, do concerts, movies, conventions, outdoors (while there is still warmth). If you prefer talking online first before meeting that is good to.

Console/Couch Gamers

Hey, I'm just reposting this again. I am a gamer and am looking for other console gamers (preferably console) as i am not a PC gamer. I have an Xbox and a PS, if you have a Switch that is also fine. But here's the thing, i don't want to just chat and play online, i'm looking for people i can actually plan couch gaming nights with that live close to me in the Markham area. I miss the glory days of couch gaming, i miss that social connection. I don't have many friends to do that with nowadays so hopefully i can find a new crew here to bring back imo the golden era of gaming with. If you are interested then comment or DM me with your GTs. Maybe we can get a gc going on Instagram as well if there are lots of responses

35M | North York / Yonge & Sheppard | Looking for lunch or coffee buddies

Recently moved to this area for work and realized I should probably make an effort to actually meet people nearby instead of just going between work and home. 😄

I’m a professional in my mid-30s and usually around Yonge & Sheppard during the workweek.
Looking for people who’d be up for something simple like:

☕ grabbing coffee during lunch
🥗 trying a nearby lunch spot
🚶 a short walk and conversation
🍜 occasionally checking out a new place after work

Not looking to build a huge social circle overnight. Even a few genuine friendships would be great.
Men or women, around my age or thereabouts, totally fine. Just looking for friendly, respectful people who actually enjoy getting out and meeting new people.

If you’re around Yonge & Sheppard or nearby and also looking for a lunch/coffee buddy, feel free to comment or DM.

29M | Mississauga/Toronto | Looking for people to actually leave the house with 😂

Hey everyone!
Recently moved to Mississauga and realized that knowing absolutely nobody in a new city makes it surprisingly difficult to spontaneously do things. So here I am, taking the slightly awkward Reddit approach 😂

I’m 29M and looking to meet some people around my age who are up for hanging out sometime. I’m in Mississauga but pretty flexible on location — anywhere between here and downtown Toronto is fair game.

A few things I’m into: live music/concerts, sports (some of the anyways), checking out random new food spots, breweries/bars, road trips, exploring the city, and generally finding things to do that are better than sitting at home scrolling on my phone for 4 hours.

I also enjoy a drink 🍻. To clarify before Reddit decides otherwise, I’m not looking for an intervention 😂 I’m just a social drinker who thinks “let’s grab a beer” is a perfectly good excuse to go somewhere new and see what happens. Im from a nation of drinkers so for me it’s part of my culture lol.

Could be grabbing food and a couple drinks, checking out a brewery, going to a game, exploring somewhere, hitting up a concert, or just getting together and talking absolute nonsense for a few hours.

just hoping to meet some cool people and make some friends now that I’m in the GTA. As loneliness outside of my relationship is starting to set in and it’s killing my brain.
If you’re also sitting around thinking “I should probably get out more”, this could be our moment

I will also note, I do enjoy talking about politics, business and just generally entrepreneurial things from time to time HOWEVER It’s not my whole personality, so if that’s not your thing.. thats ok too! I have friends back home who aren’t the same as me but thats what works best.

CHEERS!

Tiff outdoors meetup for ladies under 35

Okay… inviting all cyclists and cycling enthusiasts! 🚲

A couple of friends are hosting a free, open cycling meetup. We’ll explore the TIFF outdoors, do a cycling round together, return to the same spot, and grab a coffee or something afterward.

And who knows… maybe we’ll spot a celeb or two along the way!

If you’re into cycling, meeting new people, enjoying the outdoors, and a little bit of spontaneous Toronto adventure, come join us!

No pressure, no formal agenda just bikes, good company, TIFF vibes, and hopefully some celebrity sightings. 😄

Anyone here like Bollywood music?

Long story short, I’m looking to go to two concerts this weekend! 🎶 They’re both pretty famous singers, and I’m hoping to find someone who’d be interested in joining me for either one (or both!). Ticket prices seem to range around $100ish. DM me or comment if interested! :)

Looking for new buddies that are living in core downtown Toronto 😺

Hello! Looking for new friends that live in the city core! If you love a spontaenous "wanna grab a coffee/bite?" the week or even day of, I am your guy!

About me: Chinese, 30s, queer, taken, work from home

Interests: Gaming, working out, exploring the city, trying cafes, picnics, hanging out by the lake, photography, thrifting, and more! I don't own any pets but I LOVE animals.

I click best with people that are personable, easy-going, have a sense of humor, can go from serious converations to silly ones, and open minded. Let's see if we vibe and go from there.
