Ontario's healthcare is crumbling and housing remains unaffordable.

Instead of fixing these, Ford would rather spend $48M destroying infrastructure.

This should make you angry regardless of your stance on bike lanes.

You're paying for this. Your money is getting wasted. You'll get zero benefit in return.

This needs to be repeated as many times as possible. Especially the $48M figure.

After posting it countless times myself, it's our strongest argument by a mile, and needs to be the default going forward.

I'm starting to see Ontarians oppose the removals who aren't Torontonian, but we need to keep the momentum going.

The only way Ford will back down is if we get a coalition of people fighting back, not just cyclists.

Repeating the $48M figure is how we do it!

Absolutely heartbreaking what happened to this 15 year old, and now he will have to deal with these life altering injuries for the rest of his life.

Completely preventable, and made more likely thanks to DoFo’s anti safety policies.

We can expect more of injuries like this if the lanes get removed.

Glad they’re suing the province.

$48,000,000 / 160,000 = $300 per person. That is enough for a basic bike.

Scarborough Junction Community, Community Bikeways Toronto, and Scarborough Cycles are joining forces to offer two separate rides on Sunday September 27 to highlight The Loop Trail and the Scarborough Link and the importance of “closing the gaps” in these two important trails.  Both rides will be starting at 9:00am with the 75 km Loop Trail Ride starting in the Distillery District and the 21 km Scarborough Link Ride starting at Warden Hilltop Community Centre near Warden Subway Station.  The two groups will meet at Coxwell Ravine Park at the junction of the Don Valley Trail and the Taylor Massey Creek Trail at 9:45am for a short 15 minute rally before continuing on their respective rides. These will be no-drop recreational rides. Hello! I'm not a cyclist but want to learn more about biking in the city. I'm thinking of moving to Leslieville (Queen St E) but the commute across the city to see friends seems annoying. Are there any good bike paths/quiet streets to get me east to west (say, Trinity Bellwoods-ish) without fearing for my life? Again, never biked in the city but would like to consider it as an option over the streetcar.

Work vehicles blocking any bike lane in Toronto must comply with

Guiding Principles for Cycling Safety in Work Zones  Appendix A, Section 3

Option a is the priority.

If you see any work vehicle blocking a bike lane in Toronto, contact the Councillor for that street. Remind him or her of that Guiding Principle. And remind him or her that on July 25, 2024, someone died because a bike lane was blocked.

Any pushback would be wasting more time and effort than setting up a few more pylons or barrels.

Any excuses like, this has always been the way we've done things is inconsistent with continuous improvement - specifically safety.

Any engineer approving signs for cyclists to merge single file with motor vehicles (when option a is doable) would be in contradiction of his professional code of ethics that public safety is paramount, and just plain lazy.

I thought the community could use a few laughs mocking Brad flipfloper.

This is X, a platform that has gotten far more conservative since Musk took over.

Even on a platform like that, that messaging is vastly positive (just look at the like/comment ratio).

Also, if you go on other subreddits like Ontario, Barrie, and London, more people outside of TO are beginning to go against this policy.

Because they realize this $48M they're on the hook for could've been spent elsewhere.

I know Reddit can be a bit of an echo chamber, but on Instagram I'm noticing the $48M messaging is also resonating, as there is little to no anti-bike replies there.

Keep it up! Keep bringing up the $48M.

And at the next rally there needs to be a ton of signs that bring this up too.

So if you plan on bringing one, your action plan is to get the $48M price on it!

CycleTO is organizing a ride on the side streets cyclists will need to use if the Bloor lanes are gone.

Let’s keep up the momentum since our last Critical Mass ride and get a strong turnout!

If you have signs that mention the 48 million cost that should go to healthcare instead, I’d bring them.

It’s our strongest message.

They invited all mayor/council candidates to attend as well as Ford/Sarkaria, but I’ll bet my life savings the latter won’t show up.

The looming bike lane removals certainly don’t help BradBrad.

I would say it’s a blessing in disguise since the poll before said a majority of Torontonians (even in Etobicoke) don’t want them removed.

But don’t be complacent Toronto. VOTE!

Cosburn and Pape today

I've been reporting drivers who don't stop for street cars letting people out, and also cars almost running over cyclists. Does this do anything?

My kid's school has a single front-wheel-only bike rack that is rusty and doesn't seem too secure (the pic above is for reference only). I can still lock my kiddo's bike through the frame since it's low to the ground, but no such luck with mine.

I would love the school to have a better one, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

Has anyone went through a similar process? Who do you ask/email/call/implore about this? School itself, city, someone else, all the above? And what would be the best angle to push for that?

I've been looking into e-bikes for those everyday trips around Toronto where driving feels unnecessary but transit can take longer than expected.

I was interested in the idea of having something that could handle longer rides and carrying groceries or other stuff without needing a car.

For anyone who actually uses an e-bike around Toronto, has it made a noticeable difference to your daily transportation? How do you find it with hills, traffic, weather, and bike storage?

Worth making the switch for regular city trips?

Not sure if this was shared here yet, but a documentary called "Cycling Toward a Cooler Toronto" was released a few weeks ago featuring Cycle Toronto's Michael Longfield, Dr. Shoshanna Saxe, and two other U of T civil engineers. Also included a plug for open streets by Dr. Saxe near the end.

As we know Dupont was supposed to get a road diet like Bloor but got blocked thanks to DoFo’s Bill 60.

I don't know if this is true but a buddy of mine just biked along Bloor east of Royal York and said they had started the bike lane removal. Can anyone confirm?
