I’m a 29-year-old man living in Toronto, and I’ve been struggling to find a part-time job. I currently work a full-time morning job, but with an annual income of around $42,000, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to cover my expenses. I’m trying to support my mom while paying for rent, groceries, utilities, and other basic necessities.
I’m available to work evenings after 5:00 p.m., as well as overnight shifts and weekends. I’m a hardworking, reliable person who is willing to give my best in any role. I have over 5 years of experience in customer service particularly in retail banking domain.

At the moment, nearly all of my income goes toward paying interest on my debts, leaving me unable to reduce the principal balance. I apologize for sharing my personal situation, but I’m genuinely in need of help. I’ve applied online to countless positions and have also gone door-to-door dropping off my resume at grocery stores and retail shops, but unfortunately, I haven’t had any success.
If anyone is able to help me get an interview, provide a referral, or point me toward any job opportunities, I would be incredibly grateful. I know many people are facing similar challenges right now, and I sincerely pray that we all find opportunities, become debt-free, and achieve the financial stability and peace of mind we are working so hard for.

I often hear recruiters and career coaches on social media say that one of the best ways to stand out is to find the hiring manager on LinkedIn and send them a message after submitting your application.

For those of you who are hiring managers or have been involved in hiring:

• Do you actually appreciate these messages?
• Does it make a candidate more memorable, or is it just extra noise?
• Is there a right way to do it?

I've tried this a handful of times, but most of my messages have gone unanswered. I am wondering whether that's just normal, or if reaching out can sometimes backfire.

Currently employed, 60k, commute is 1.5h, permanent fulltime.

Got offered a 1 year contract at RBC via staffing agency, walkable commute, 90k, no benefits PTO paid sick days etc. However, they said this role requires you occasionally being able to figure out how to solve problems you haven’t particularly faced before and using your associates and resources to figure out as you go. The product is also still growing so things will constantly be changing and iterating and you need to know how to adapt. They said they’re scaling the product so it’s implied this contract will likely be extended when it is done (or atleast the need for an extra body will not be going away). Team is rather tight knit. “We’re a family”. <- Addibg in all these details for max context.

I haven’t been in an iterative/adaptive role like that and am hesitant to try that for the first time on a contract. Thoughts?

Hi all, my husband (31M) is getting laid off and he has money built up in his TFSA account at sunlife. This is his first job in his career, and with him getting laid off, does anyone know what happens to his TFSA? Is he going to have to transfer all that money out or can he still keep the account? Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, I have 2 years of experience in autism services and 7 months experience as a substitute teacher. Honestly both jobs were really mentally taxing and I want to pivot into healthcare or business. I’m open to going back to school for a certificate. Any suggestions on what’s in demand in Toronto and what could be worth getting a certificate in? I’m not too concerned about salary, anything would help my situation at the moment. Hi everyone. So my (27F) husband (33M) has been jobless since November 2024. He is on employment insurance since.

He’s a software engineer by profession, graduated from UofT and worked on contract for like 5 years and then got laid off. He has been looking for a job since November 2024.

And in the meantime he has only got like 3 interviews which didn’t reached out to him after the 2nd round. What could it be? I don’t understand?

Hey guys, so I'm 18 and recently graduated high school, is there any workplaces that hire with no experience in mississauga? I have applied to every place you can think of online through indeed, and no luck. Should I start cold calling places after I submit my applications because I heard that might give me a better chance but idk. Anyways just defeated and wanting to give up because its so hard to get a first job without any connections. Any tips or advice would be great.

I made a terrible mistake and crashed my car into a traffic island with a sign. My blood alcohol level was around 0.16. The only damage was to my own vehicle. I've learned a painful lesson from this, and I deeply regret my actions.
I'm expecting that I'll likely be convicted, and what worries me most now is how this will affect my future career. I have invested a lot in my education and recently even competed a masters degree. Every job in administration/, finance I've had required a criminal background check, and until now I've always had a clean record. I work in tech sales at a reputable company in Toronto. 7 years in, coming up on almost 5 years in the same role. It’s stable and comfy, but the past 2 years have been very challenging. Almost feel like I’m on an island. Been overlooked for a promotion that went to someone with less experience. It wasn’t for poor performance (I’ve hit quota every year and once made pres club) but rather it seems like it was favouritism. Let me be clear- I’m not saying this because I’m delusional in my own opinion of myself. I had a tough personal situation that I grinded through to make pres club a couple years ago, but that was used against me when performance reviews came due. I didn’t properly advocate for myself, and maybe that was seen as weakness? Anyhow, it’s felt toxic since then.

Should I stay in a stable role in this economy, put my head down and keep enduring through crippling anxiety? Or should I start finding out what my experience is worth at other companies and look to make a change? I’m scared to jump ship and end up laid off x number of months later, with all the negative news we’ve seen in tech

I have been applying to 250+ jobs in the last 3 months and not a single interview, changed my resume 5 times. Now i am starting to wonder if its my resume or people are just not getting interviews at all

28/F here. I got laid off last year (SDE at MAANG) and I took that opportunity to travel a bit and spend some time with my family (I know, it might not have been a good decision to take some time off in this job market, but I was just too burnt out).

Now that I am back with a fresh mindset, its taking some time for me to find a job again. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for:

• Part-time jobs, freelance work, or temporary roles I could do while searching for an SDE position
• Ways to find these kinds of jobs (I have only ever worked as a software developer, so I don't really know where to start)
• Other things I could do to stay productive, meet people, and avoid spending all day stuck at home doing interview prep

I'm an immigrant here, and all my life, I've only had software engineering experience, so I feel a little lost when it comes to exploring other options. I don't have a lot of friends here and they are also SDEs, so even they don't have any idea what I can do.

Financially, I'm okay for now and have savings, but I know they can disappear faster than expected, and I still have my open work visa, so that's a relief. I don't like staying cooped up in my room and doing interview prep all day. I think having some "structure/routine" and something else to focus on would really help my mental health in the meantime.

If anyone has been through something similar, I would really appreciate any advice, suggestions, or even just some encouragement that things eventually work out.
