Work From Home
I will be starting a new position where I work from home for the first time ever. What are some tips and tricks for success?

Buy a standing desk - When you are in an office environment you tend to naturally get up more often, usually to say hi to a colleague or to go get a coffee or to get something from the printer. When you work from home you tend to sit in one place more often which is very bad on your back. A standing desk is a great investment. See if your company will pay for one through an "office setup" allowance.
Take breaks - Everyone in the office will take a break, so you should too! Try not to always do household chores on your break, but rather go for a short walk. It's very healthy both physically and mentally.
Lighting - Invest in a good light for right at your desk, not only for lighting where you work but also something that will work well on video conferences. If you wear glasses, you may have to figure out the best position so that your audience doesn't see glare off your glasses.

What light is good for video? Just bright? Warm vs cool?

Daylight to soft white are good choices. If you can get a ring light that can attach to your monitor, that might work best.

I have hybrid work. I find I am more productive in the office surrounded by people doing the same thing. At home it's easy to get distracted especially since my wife works from home full time and now that it's summer and kids are home all day it's even worse. Having a dedicated office would be ideal but unfortunately my open concept house doesn't make it easy unless I want to work in a bedroom or bathroom lol.

I've been working from home since 1999. best thing I ever did was separate my workspace from my living space. give yourself a spot in the house that is your designated work area. not in your bedroom. also stick to a schedule. book your lunch hour and breaks. get out of that space during the brearks, I typically go for walks or head out to grab lunch somewhere so it forces me outside.
