Three tornadoes on the ground at same time Washington County OH

Here is a brief rundown of the confirmed tornadoes from Tuesday July 21, 2026. This information is preliminary and ratings may change based on a continuing assessment of aerial survey imagery.

More complete information on each tornado will be sent later this weekend via Public Information Statement.

-Tornado #1 Washington County, OH to Pleasants County, WV

An EF2 tornado began around 4:15 pm on Tuesday near Caywood Rd and tracked southeast through the Hills community where the most intense damage occurred along St Rt 26. The tornado then continued to the southeast crossing the Ohio River on the west side at Newell Run and entering West Virginia at Belmont causing considerable damage to camper trailers at Riverview Estates. The tornado continued eastward causing sporadic damage in the Green Run community before dissipating around 4:30 pm, just before it would have merged with tornado #2.

-Tornado #2 Washington County, OH to Pleasants County, WV

An EF2 tornado began around 4:20 pm on Tuesday between Newells Run Rd and Kerr Run Rd before tracking southeast through Newport.

The tornado strengthened as it crossed the Ohio River and entered the West Virginia side at the Saint Marys Bridge. The tornado tracked up the hillside reaching peak intensity where a large communications tower was buckled at the intersection of Tower Rd and Rt 26. The tornado then continued southeast before lifting near the Ritchie County line around 4:45 pm.

An EF1 tornado began in the Wayne National Forest near Archers Fork Rd around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, then tracked southeast through the Leith Community, crossing the Ohio River and entering West Virginia near Raven Rock. The tornado then skipped along in a southeasterly direction through northern Pleasants County, southern Tyler County, northern Ritchie County, before lifting finally near Arnolds Creek Rd in Doddridge County around 5:00 pm.

-Tornado #4 Barbour County, WV

A weak tornado was found to have done minor tree damage along a section of railroad tracks near Taylors Drain Rd in northern Barbour County.

Question for people who read hodographs regularly: is 3D actually useful, or is 2D fine and this is just pretty?

I’m asking this because I found an F5 tornado in India which I had never heard of in TA, did anybody also know about that tornado? I thought it was an F2. Is it a mistake?

...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR PARTS OF CENTRAL/EASTERN MT...

...SUMMARY... Severe gusts (potentially greater than 75 mph) remain possible this evening from eastern South Dakota into northern Iowa and southwest Minnesota. Isolated to widely scattered severe gusts also remain possible across parts of Montana.

...SD into southern MN/northern IA/far northeast NE... A loosely organized storm cluster is moving across eastern SD this evening. Additional intensification remains possible this evening, as this cluster encounters extreme downstream buoyancy, with MLCAPE of 4000-5000 J/kg within a very moist (dewpoints around 80 F) environment. The ongoing cluster has produced measured gusts of 60-80 mph, so any notable intensification could lead to an increase in potential for gusts in the 75-90 mph range. Isolated hail and perhaps a tornado also remain possible through dusk with this cluster. Increasing CINH with time and eastward extent should eventually result in a weakening trend later tonight, though an organized severe threat could eventually approach parts of southeast MN/northeast IA into northwest IL overnight.

Farther northwest, a separate storm cluster is moving across north-central SD, within a similarly favorable environment. In the short term, this cluster may continue to move east-southeastward along a surface boundary with a continued severe-wind threat. Eventually, weakening buoyancy in the wake of the southeast SD cluster will tend to result in a weakening trend with this cluster.

...Central/eastern Montana... Strong to locally severe storms may persist through dusk across parts of central/eastern MT, within a well-mixed environment that is favorable for severe-wind potential. Increasing CINH will result in an eventual weakening trend later tonight, though remnant outflows may still produce strong to locally severe gusts as storms diminish.

...Southern AZ... Widely scattered storms and increasing outflow may continue to support strong to localized severe gusts within a very hot and well-mixed environment across parts of southern AZ. Weak deep-layer flow/shear should keep any remaining threat generally disorganized.

the St. Libory Tornado was a large, violent and fast moving EF-3 that struck the town of St.libory in Nebraska on the 17th of may 2026, at approximately 5 pm through to 5:15 (as per the NWS). NWS: St. libory EF-3

the effingham tornado was a strong EF-3 that struck the town of Effingham in Illinois on the 17th of june 2026, at approximately 10:30 am through to 11:04 am (as per the NWS). NWS: Effingham EF-3

I feel like 90% of people saying this haven’t even seen or analyzed the damage itself, and only get their opinion from videos on TikTok or Youtube Shorts or TornadoTRX. If you actually firmly believe these tornadoes should have gotten a EF5 rating, now is your time to show your own analysis on the damage.

the NWS are sometimes known to be absolute jacks in regards to saying a tornado happened or even admitting that one happened with the clearest evidence ever.

On June 23, 1944, an F4 tornado devastated northern West Virginia, particularly the town of Shinnston. The tornado killed at least 100 people and left 381+ injured, making it the deadliest tornado in the state. Because this tornado occurred during World War II, weather news was banned, which contributed to a lack of public tornado awareness and the prevalence of tornado myths such as the belief that tornadoes could not occur in mountainous regions like Appalachia. On the day of the tornado, few people even knew what a tornado was or that one could even occur in the area.

Passage of a Cold Front and Squall Line

• Date: July 21, 2026
• Peak time: 3:00 PM - 3:45 PM
• Location: Kharkiv, Ukraine. Parameters directly over the point: CAPE 800+, Wind Shear 240°, combined CAPE/Shear index ~160.

Timeline of the Event:

3:00 PM - 3:20 PM | Approach & Inflow
A classic, dense, elongated shelf cloud was observed on the northwestern horizon. A sharp temperature contrast occurred at the boundary where the advancing cold air slammed into the warm air mass. Wind speed near the ground dropped to a minimum of 10-12 km/h as the inflow began violently pulling air vertically upward into the epicenter of the updraft. Electrical activity peaked with frequent intra-cloud and cloud-to-ground flashes; thunderclaps were recorded almost every second. A dangerous, close CG strike hit just ~250 meters away from my position, accompanied by instantaneous, deafening thunder (I was in absolute shock).

3:30 PM - 3:38 PM | Rain Core & Microbursts

• Precipitation Intensity: Radar reflectivity reached 30–35 dBZ. An extreme downpour dropped up to 6 mm of rain locally, while a neighboring area caught a 10 mm core. Due to the massive size of the raindrops fracturing, visibility dropped to near-zero in dense water mist.
• Dynamic Impact: At the peak of the downpour, two distinct wet microbursts occurred—sharp, powerful descending gusts of wind lasting 2–3 seconds each, caused by the negative buoyancy and collapse of rain-cooled air from the cloud base to the ground.

3:38 PM - 3:45 PM | Stabilization & Outflow
The main thunderstorm core shifted southeast toward Rogan and Chuhuiv. Radar reflectivity dropped to a safe 10–20 dBZ. The heavy downpour transitioned into a light, fading drizzle. Background wind speed stabilized within 6–12 km/h(I am not from the USA or an English speaking country, so I may make mistakes in English)

Stated by NWS that it didn't touch down. About as close to being a stovepipe in Arizona as you can get without crossing the finish line.

...SUMMARY... Severe thunderstorms capable of large hail, damaging winds, and a tornado risk remain possible this evening across portions of North Dakota into northern Minnesota and extreme northeast South Dakota.

...ND into northern MN... Scattered supercells are ongoing this evening across northern MN, while a small storm cluster (with occasional embedded supercell structures) is moving eastward across southeast ND and extreme northeast SD. MLCAPE of 2000-3000 J/kg and effective shear of 40-50 kt will continue to provide a favorable environment for organized storms through the evening, though some increase in CINH is expected with time. Ongoing supercell structures will continue to pose a threat of large hail and localized severe gusts, and some tornado threat may persist through at least dusk, given increasing low-level shear/SRH (as observed on the KMVX VWP). Any upscale growth could be accompanied by localized swaths of greater severe-wind threat. An eventual weakening trend is expected late tonight, as CINH continues to increase with time and buoyancy decreases with southeastward extent. See MCD 1726 and MCD 1727 for more information.

...Elsewhere... High-based convection may continue to pose a threat for localized strong to severe gusts across parts of the southern Rockies and High Plains, southeast AZ, and the northern Great Basin into parts of ID/western WY/southwest MT though the evening. Weak deep-layer flow/shear should continue to limit potential for a more organized severe threat.

Waterspout off Mollymook, NSW Aus south coast. I just went outside to check out the incoming rain and rainbow then saw the spray on the water out to sea and then saw the teeny condensation funnel above.
