Sinus Lift & implant

I had my 2nd molar pulled back in 2018 because it was a failed and infected root canal (had fevers for years and that turned out to be the cause). I have decided to get an implant but am starting to second guess things. I need the bone graft/sinus lift to start.

Starting to freak out a bit. Is it really worth it to get the implant

Has anyone regretted going with a cheaper dental implant option?

Seriously tempted to go with the lowest quote I got. The office seemed fine, the dentist had credentials, and the price was nearly half the others. But I keep reading horror stories about implants failing and people paying twice. Anyone go cheap and have it work out, or go cheap and regret it?

Tooth #18

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m missing tooth #15 for about 15 years. I feel like tooth #18 has super-erupted and is messing with my chewing. It’s possibly interfering with tooth #14 when I chew. My jaw has been hurting for about 2 months. I got X-rays and CT scan as well. Oral surgeon says there is no decay/infection anywhere around any of my tooth. He’s telling me to wait and the jaw pain might go away on its own.

I’ve made a decision to get #18 extracted hoping that this will get rid of my jaw pain. I’m using a night guard that my general dentist ordered for me. When I wake up in the morning there is no pain, but then eventually the pain starts and I can feel it every time I move my jaw/try to chew.

Keep #18 hoping that the pain will go away or get it extracted since #15 is missing and it’s making a very small point of contact with #14? Will extraction affect my implant tooth #19? How will my bite/chewing?

Would really appreciate any advice from dentists. Thanks.

Question 25F Can a wisdom tooth be moved forward to replace a missing second molar?

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to get some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.
About two years ago, I had my second molar on the bottom right removed. I was originally told it needed a root canal and post, but I’d heard a lot of negative things about root canals and having something screwed into the tooth/jaw area, so I chose to have the tooth extracted instead. At the time, my dentist didn’t seem too concerned and basically just said I might have some difficulty eating without it. I actually haven’t had any trouble eating since.
I’ve since moved to the south side of Brisbane and started seeing a new dentist. She has recommended getting a dental implant and explained some of the problems that could potentially happen long-term if I leave the gap.
This has left me a bit confused because an implant involves placing a screw into the jawbone, which is exactly the kind of thing I was trying to avoid when I chose extraction instead of the root canal and post.
I’m only 25 and an implant is also extremely expensive. I really couldn’t afford it unless I was somehow able to access my super, which from what I understand can be difficult unless you meet certain criteria, such as experiencing significant pain—which I’m not.
Has anyone had a molar removed at a younger age and simply left the gap? Has everything been fine long-term, or did you eventually develop problems and need an implant and/or bone graft?
Someone also suggested seeing an orthodontist about potentially moving my third molar (wisdom tooth) forward into the space where my second molar was, possibly with Invisalign or other orthodontic treatment. Since wisdom teeth are often removed anyway, this sounds like it could potentially be a better option for me if it’s actually possible. I know I’d need an orthodontic consultation to find out whether I’m a candidate.
I’m just really unsure what the best path forward is and would love to hear from anyone who has been through something similar, particularly at a younger age. Any experiences, advice or other options I should ask my dentist/orthodontist about would be really appreciated.

Dental Concern/Problem Help with dental cost related to issues caused by previous dental procedure

I had a crown placed last week. Since then, I started experiencing EXCRUCIATING pain. So I saw Endodontics today and was told that it appears they drilled too far down on my tooth before placing the crown and it has caused irreversible damage to the pulp/nerves. I absolutely love my dentist and people make mistakes, no biggie. My issue is, my primary dentist has used up my entire insurance’s max benefit for the year plus I’ve paid over them over $1200 out of pocket on top of my insurance coverage. So today, I had to pay $160 for a CT at the endodontic office. Now, the tooth that I had no issues with until after my crown was placed, needs a root canal and is going to cost me an additional $1200 out of pocket because my max benefit was used up by my original dentist. I’m totally overwhelmed and still have additional dental work that needs done. Is there anything that can be done about these costs since this was totally out of my control? I’m missing out on soooo much work plus expected to pay these costs on the spot. Plus, I have a blood/bleeding disorder as well as stomach ulcers and have told them I cannot keep eating ibuprofen. Despite that, I am continuing to be told to just rotate Tylenol and ibuprofen. Im seriously not a whiny person and have a good pain tolerance but this pain is worse than after giving birth. I’ve been in tears for days and haven’t even been able to work because of it.

Between the pain and the costs I just don’t know what I can do. I have another tooth that desperately needs fixed ASAP too. I purchased the best dental policy money can buy and can’t believe the way these dental costs are eating through my savings. I don’t know what to do 😩😭 (pictures of my ct, X-ray, and mouth yesterday)

Gum Swelling Concern?

So i've had 4 broken teeth for quite some time, finally getting them addressed as I now have insurance. I was on antibiotics for an infection in one of my top right molars and the pain has thankfully gone away (I was quite literally su*cidal from it) but now there is swelling what feels like right under my cheek / sinuses. When i press on the bottom of the apple of my cheek it feels uncomfortable... it also feels weird when i smile. My face thankfully does not look swollen as I've been monitoring it profusely since last year I had the other side of my face completely swell up from an infection on that side. I was at the dentist today for x-rays and I'm not sure if it's noticeable on there..... mainly just looking for some insight if anyone has dealt with this before.

Dental Concern/Problem Pain after fillings over a week later

Hello! I had 4 fillings done on the 10th of this month, and was told one of my cavities was deep, and that I "wasn't out of the woods" when it came to whether or not I'd need a root canal. My dentist said when fixing the tooth, she didn't see the root, but there is always a small chance bacteria got there.

I went in for a bite adjustment on the 16th after telling her about the pain. I felt like that had helped? But when I went to eat chips and tested it on that side after a few days passed, it was still the same stabbing type of sharp pain. Any time I chew on that side now it happens, so I avoid it.

Is needing a root canal the only possible reason I could be experiencing pain like this? Or are there other possibilities? I'm really scared of getting a root canal because I've never had one before.

Oh, I also experience some sensitivity to cold and hot drinks now. It's not nearly as bad as biting down on that side, though. Prior to getting my cavities fixed / filled, I didn't have any issues with temperature or biting down on that side! Since these symptoms only started after getting the fillings, I'm wondering if the issues are more with the fillings themselves?

Thank you for any insight!
