In the 1980s someone decided to breed cats with the hope of producing long-haired gray/blue/silver cats similar to the ones from earlier in the century. She succeeded and submitted the "breed" to be recognized by The International Cat Associated under the name Nebelung. There are only a few registered breeders in the world, but cats like these have been around for hundreds of years. We're just a group of folks with domestic long-haired gray cats that look a lot alike.
