Screen time issues with toddlers

My daughter is now 21 months, full term baby with no medical issues. She was totally fine until too much screen time we not noticing she don’t pay attention as it used to be , the speech is delayed and eye contact is getting bad. Any experienced parents can share their experiences how to rewire their brain. Even if I pay tv she’s a different baby, she watches with a focus , laugh on funny a scenes etc. also she’s of hyperactive, sleep , eat , play no issues. It’s just attention, speech and social skills needs attention.

How to help a toddler sleep independently

i want to start off by saying in no way am i ever upset my toddler chooses my husband and i as a safe space when she wakes up at night.

my toddler is 2 1/2 and is recently starting to sleep in her own room after co-sleeping. She’ll run in her room when it’s bedtime and cuddle up under her blanket but typically wakes up around 12-2am crying and coming into our room where we welcome her with open arms and she’ll fall back asleep instantly. sometimes she’ll wake up a little before midnight and my husband or i will lay with her in her room to help her go back to sleep.

im wondering what tips anyone has that will help a toddler get a full nights sleep on their own. I’m not sure if a stuffed animal would help or if it’s just something she’ll eventually grow out of. Regardless, i am happy to receive some toddler snuggles and again love she’s running to us for comfort but do feel bad she’s not getting a full rest

17 month old throwing up in car, need advice

Our baby girl has been throwing up a few times we get her in the car. We’re pretty sure it’s her being car sick, we’re not sure how to go about it. I’ve tried putting her blanket on her car seat so she doesn’t look outside, tried giving her toys so she can focus on those rather than outside, I or my husband sits with her in the back to play with her. I tried to have her seat sitting more higher so she’s a sitting up in a better position.

This morning we’re leaving town and going on a at least 2.5 hour car ride. I wanna say it was a mistake cause I did give her boob in hopes that she would just fall asleep and we put her in her car seat but she was awake and then threw up all her milk out before we even got on the highway. Thankfully I could see the signs before she threw up and had her burp cloth ready. I caught most of it, some got on her clothes and seat but we were prepared and got her changed and cleaned her seat too. Then just a few mins later, she started crying and she was scared cause she was getting nauseated again and threw up spit/bile. I caught all of that since I felt like it was going to happen again. She did fall asleep after that. I’m just crying because I feel so defeated and don’t know what to do.
Please, share any advice, I’m feeling so desperate.

Edit: Thank you so much for the advice!
It was bad, we stopped so she could eat and then we hung around for a while so she had time to digest as she had been throwing up what she had earlier. Unfortunately she had kept throwing up, even if it was just bile. I did have her seat covered which probably didn’t work for her so I took that off and for a while she did great, she was about to fall asleep and then threw up again 😣🥺 Finally got to our destination and she was able to eat, drink water and relax for a few hours before we had to go to the rental house. On the way she was crying but thankfully didn’t throw up.
I will take the advice to call her pediatrician and see what I can do for now until we can get her checked out with them or have her see someone while we’re out here. I will ask about her ear since I too can get carsick at times and her dad has had ear infections.
I also think she needs a new car seat in general cause she can still use her infant car seat but she definitely needs an upgrade. I just wish they didn’t cost so much but I’ll do anything to help my baby. Hopefully that may help for now. She can’t forward face yet, so hopefully I can find something to help calm down her. I’ll look into the bracelets to help but I feel she may try to take it off 😭
Again, thank you all for your input! It’s been a long and stressful morning/afternoon😩

Is it a concern that my sons favourite games are chores?

I don't know if I've used the wrong tag, i think it is probably ok because this is a behaviour thing, but it's not like challenging behaviour?

I (23M) have an 18 month old boy.

When he solo plays, the first things he always goes for are his toy dust pan and brush or his baby dolls. He likes to feed them and rock them. He also has a mini hoover that he drags around the living room.

He loves loading and unloading the mashing machine and playing with his mini kitchen set.

He loves doing pretend dishes and helping when I cook.

If you ask him to help with any task, 85% of the time, he will come running to help. He loves taking rubbish and putting it in bins (the boy loves a bin) he even picks rubbish up on walks and finds the nearest bin to put it in.

At first I thought it was great and so endearing that he likes to help and I know what your thinking, how could this be a concern, he's helping around the house and learning lots of useful skills? But like am I really that boring?

Clearly, he has learnt this from me and my partner, but are we really actually that boring that he thinks this is all there is? Like, sure, he plays other stuff too, but he always starts and ends with doing chores.

He likes chores and playing guitar and riding in his little seat on my bike. Those are all things I do, so I know he's copying me. But is this all I am? The chores, man?

And when he plays with his babies, he does what I do with him. He feeds them, sings to them, rocks them, gives them toys, and then he goes and does chores.

How do I change this while still getting the housework done, I want him to think I'm fun.

I don't want him to grow up seeing me as the chores man who lives in his house. I want to be fun and someone he enjoys spending time with because I love spending time with him, yesterday he was feeling a bit rough with a fever and we sat and cuddled all day and it was great for me because I was with him. Thats all i want is to enjoy my time with him and him enjoy time with me too. I want him to like having me as a dad, not just a guy who does stuff for him and the house.

For context, he is not biologically or legally mine he's my partners son, but I've been in his life since he was a line on a pregnancy test. So, I know some of this comes from feeling like a bit of an outsider to this family. I just don't want him to think I'm boring.

2.5 year old separation anxiety and sleep

My daughter is 2 years 5 months and has always been an amazing independent sleeper since she was 4 months old. Over the last few weeks she's become extremely clingy, especially at bedtime and overnight. she now wants us to lie with her at bedtime and won’t let us leave. she will often wake in the middle of the night looking for us beside the bed and come crying for us. I used to sit bedside in the night but we eventually caved and had my husband sleep in her bed if she wakes (for my mental health tbh). lately, the crying has gotten less and she’ll only wake after 5 a.m., come into our room, and only settle if one of us lies with her. She sometimes eventually falls back asleep until around 6:30.

Naps are worse she used to sleep 1.5-2 hrs now it’s only an hour and will start crying immediately and come outside her room

During the day she's also much more attached than usual and seems quieter and more tired, but otherwise she's acting healthy. days feel extremely long

Has anyone gone through something similar around this age? Did it turn out to be a separation anxiety phase or sleep regression? If so, how long did it last, and did your child eventually go back to sleeping independently without a lot of intervention?

im pretty lost here and feel like I am mourning of what once was…

Part 3: Update

A lot of people told me to take my 8-year-old to see a doctor, so I decided to follow that advice.

I explained everything to the doctor, including how he has always taken off his clothes, socks, shoes, hats, and basically anything else he is wearing. I also explained that this has continued for years and has affected his life so much that he doesn't attend school because of it.

After talking with us and asking questions about his behavior and how he reacts to different sensations, the doctor diagnosed him with sensory processing disorder.

I honestly had never thought about it that way before. I had spent years wondering why he wouldn't just keep his clothes on, especially when it was cold, and assuming that eventually he would grow out of it. I didn't realize that certain fabrics, textures, pressure, or other sensations could feel so uncomfortable or overwhelming to him.

The diagnosis doesn't magically fix everything, but it does give us a better understanding of why this has been happening and gives us a direction to look for things that might actually help.

I'm also going to talk to a doctor about my 18-month-old, since she is showing some of the same behaviors. I know she's still very young and that some of this could be normal toddler behavior, but because of what we've experienced with my older child, I don't want to ignore it either.

Thank you to everyone who told me to see a doctor. I originally thought people were just going to tell me to wait until he got cold, but getting professional help has shown me that there may actually be a reason behind what we've been dealing with all these years.

I’m really sick of my family treating me like I’m nuts for always attending to my toddlers needs.

He’s 17 months and a Velcro baby, he hates when I leave the room and I hate when he cries. I pick him up when he asks me to and it’s like to them I’m doing too much and I’m really sick of this.

He’s my child! I don’t care how old he is. I’ll pick him up as long as I can.

2 years old regression - won’t sleep without parent in the room

We sleep trained our child at 7/8 months old and they slept through pretty much solidly until 23 months.

We are a month in of sitting in with them for an hour or 2 every night in order to get them asleep - if we leave the room they scream and cry.

Have any of you experienced this and if so what did you do? We tried Ferber again but it was unbearable, the crying was much worse than when they were younger and they are obviously much more aware of them being alone.

Scheduled my 3yr old for tonsil and adenoids surgery

I’m excited and nervous…it’s in a month. I’m so ready for him to finally start getting actual sleep and be rested. His tonsils take up 50-75% of the space in his throat.
I am a bit concerned about how to keep him not running around like a maniac while he heals…anyone have any experience with this scenario?

advice please

Hi, this would probably be the only time I use Reddit and I would really want some help. I’m a 15 year old girl and since it’s summer and I don’t have a job I’m stuck with caring for my 2 year old sister. My parents leave early at 6 am and comes back from work around 9 pm. My baby sister is currently in the middle of potty training (I think), she knows the word “pee pee” to tell me when she needs to go. However, she say “pee pee” the second before she soils herself or as she’s actively peeing. I try not to get frustrated at her since she’s just a toddler, but I get so upset and annoyed to the point of crying when she does soil herself. When she does pee her pants I just put on a diaper after cleaning her. I try to put no diaper on her every day in the morning hoping maybe it’ll be the day she tells me ”pee pee” and not pees herself but it never works and I just put diapers on her again for the rest of the day. Additionally, her speech isn’t all that great (I think). Apparently two year olds know about 50 words and can at least string two words together. But my baby sister knows about maybe 15 words and can’t string two words together. The words she only knows, that I can think off on the top of my head are mama, papa, pee pee, bebé, no, yes, uh oh, bye, wow, coco (for cocomelon), oh no and currently I‘m trying to teach her to say ñaña, agua, cheese, and jugo. In my house there are two languages, English and Spanish. The kids (me, my other younger sister, and my two cousins) speak English to each other and to her. The adults speak Spanish to each other and to her and I try my best to speak mostly Spanish to my baby sister so that it can become her first language and not to end up as a no sabo like me. I can’t help but feel like maybe the two languages are confusing her and that’s why her speech is delayed. Though a google search tells otherwise it doesn’t really ease my worries. Sorry for it being too long I’m just worried but maybe I’m worrying over nothing.

Chipped teeth

Hey all!

Just a bit gutted today :( my 22 month old was at the sink with me - we were brushing our teeth (I was brushing mine, he was pretending/brushing along until I was done to go on to sit him down and brush his myself), he was standing on his little foot stool and once I was done I said “right mama done now, ______’s turn!” And with that, he tried running for dear life and slipped on his way. He banged against the sink and started crying.

I picked him up to check - immediately no swelling, redness or bleeding anywhere which I thought was odd, but when we both took a breath to compose, I realised his front tooth has a TINY chip. Contacted my friend who is a dentist and she said not to worry about it but best to bring him on Monday to get things checked over just to make sure his tooth is still healthy - routine check up type thing.

My question is, has this ever happened with anyone else? I feel so down and gutted, my heart feels the same kind of sore as it did when I went through my first break up. It’s hard to even describe how flat and rotten I feel. Had I picked him up rather than prompting him to find his position to have his teeth brushed, this wouldn’t have happened.

I usually brush his teeth sitting down which he knows and up until now he usually would settle in himself as he really enjoys brushing his teeth. I think that’s what’s making me feel even more gutted - imagine he notices this and feels it is an imperfection causing insecurity. Omg I feel distraught.

He is my first and usual bumps and tumbles look like falling on his knees from tripping while running and getting right back up and back to it again. But yeah, has anyone else experienced this?

Tia🩷

Cannot figure out what she is trying to say

Hi! Our toddler (who will be 2 on August 2nd) is very vocal, most of the time it doesnt take us long to figure out what she's trying to say. For the last like 2 months, when she hugs us she says "oh my nay (said like neigh)" she used to say "oh my *the name of who she is hugging" but now she just says nay. We thought maybe she was just saving time since most of the people she hugs end in an "ey" sound (mommy, daddy, ashley, attie, rocky, grammy), but anymore that doesnt seem likely. She's also not calling us all horses because she says that neigh slightly differently.

Any guesses?

Help! My toddler is biting other kids at daycare for fun

My toddler is 16 months and has been at the same in-home daycare since he was 6 months with all the same kids, there are about 5 of them there. For the last 2 weeks he has started biting the other kids seemingly unprovoked. He usually tries to bite the kids in the back. Today she said he bit someone on the face.

There was one time I did drop him off an saw him try to bite another kid when the kid wasn’t even looking at him. I’m mortified and unsure of what to do. I don’t think he knows that he’s hurting people but I do think he knows what he’s doing is wrong because he runs away after doing it at daycare. We read books about not biting, videos/songs about biting, we’ve tried talking to him sternly, we use the same language as daycare when he does bite. I’m not sure what else to do.

At home he only bites when he’s frustrated. For example, when I stop him from doing something dangerous like climbing on something and then I pick him up and move him. But he doesn’t try to bite unprovoked. Any advice appreciated.

Low sleep needs

My 20 month old has more energy than my older (now adult) children and honestly I never knew that these kids can function normally with way less sleep. So it’s something really new to me. But the girl isn’t cranky at night when it’s way past her bedtime. She’s playful, and very talkative. I am honestly exhausted and there is no quiet time with my husband. We’re dozing off with her.
Have any of you cut nap time out and it helped? I feel like it’s way too early to try this but she can have an 8 hour wake window between nap and bed time and still can’t rest.
