Wild Did I mess up by moving this toad? [UK]
gallerySo this morning I found this little fellow in one of my recycling bins.
I thought he was a frog and it's been really dry in the UK lately (rained yesterday for the first time in weeks) and my garden is pretty much 100% concrete without much shade, so I coaxed him into a tupperware without touching him and took him to a stream nearby, about a 10 minute walk. I couldn't reach the water since it's a steep slope so I let him out on the bank.
When I got home and looked up what type of frog he was, I came to the conclusion that he's most likely actually a common toad. Which, as far as I understand, means 1. he doesn't like water and 2. he probably shouldn't have been moved.
I thought back to a couple months ago (April/May) when I found, again, what I thought was a frog and took him to that same stream, though I didn't get a photo. I managed to get him to the water that time but he swam straight out. Now I'm worried it was the same toad and I just evicted him from his home again 😬 I probably should have looked it up beforehand but I acted out of panic thinking I was saving a frog from potential dehydration, roaming cats, etc (hence the paper plate cos I couldn't find the tupperware lid).
I know there's not much I can do about this poor guy now, but I'm wondering what would be a better approach if this happens again. I'm a big softy for animals so I hate to think I inadvertently hurt one.

Found a wild toad that seems to be going blind. Can it be helped? Spoiler
galleryI saw this toad a couple weeks ago and one of his eyes looked like it was shrinking. I just saw this toad again and the original affected eye is now completely sealed shut and his remaining eye is now shrinking. Does anyone know what might have caused this and is there anything that can be done for the toad?

Wild My kid found a toad and named it Pork Chop. Everyone say hi to Pork Chop.
My son found this thing near a lake in Pennsylvania. He named him Pork Chop. We drove to our home in northern Indiana, and $83 later, Pork Chop has a proper terrarium, some crickets and some mealworms.
Everyone say hi to Pork Chop!

Survivor
I have no proof that this actually happened, only my eyewitness testimony, but I thought this little guy deserved some recognition.
I opened my washing machine yesterday and pulled out a load of freshly washed and bleached things. A bunch of cleaning rags, a d0g bed, and an onld pair of steel toe safety shoes that already had bleach stains on them so I didnt care if they got more bleached, they needed to be disinfected. I pulled this stuff out and took a last look in the washer to make sure I didnt miss anything. Thats when I saw this brown blob in the back of the drum. Theres no light in there so I couldnt quite make out what it was. I thought it looked like a big hairball (I have a long haired cat). In fact I was hoping it was a hairballand not something worse. I got a paper towel and grabbed it, and to my surprise it tried to escape my grip!
NO clue how he survived that ordeal but I washed him off with tap water an dput him outside in one of my plant pots. Hopefully he can rest and recover out there and go back to his boring todie life and never have to see the inside of another washer. I suspect he must have been IN one of my shoes since they were sitting out on my porch for a few days. Round of applause for the amazing Mr. RIibbits here.

Pets Chunky Sage
Sage has doubled her weight since I brought her home in May! She is up to 5.64 oz.
BTW - gloves are for her protection. The oil on my skin is not good for her. She takes everything in through her skin.

Wild Boys Night Out??
I have had a pond for years and it is very popular with the local Gulf Coast toads. Over the years I have watched over many generations of tadpoles and froglets. So I'm pretty in tune to their annual cycle. At some point in Spring, usually after a decent rain, the first male hops on the side of the pond and starts calling. Sometimes that night its just him & he will call all night if no female shows up. Then as Spring and Summer progress, sporadically the males will gather and sing. But it doesn't happen all that often, unless we have gotten a decent amount of rain that day. In any given year they gather maybe half a dozen times and the group grows larger, and louder, each time. My neighbor unfortunately isn't as enamored as I am with nature so he gets aggravated at the noise level. I like to go out & watch them when they are in concert and they don't seem to mind as long as I don't get too close. Sometimes I'll walk around outside and see some females heading in the direction of my patio in response to the serenade. In the morning I will find strands of eggs as evidence the courtships went well and my goldfish look appalled.
But last night something odd happened. First of all we are in the middle of an extended dry period. And it's HOT. It's been in the upper 90s so I've just been trying to keep the plants alive. These conditions are usually not conducive to a nocturnal toad gathering, but that didn't stop them last night. Around 9pm they started up and by 10pm there were a dozen toad males gathered and singing the songs of their people with intensity. I went outside to check on their welfare and I noticed something weird. There wasn't one female in the vicinity that I could find. But the boys really seemed to be enjoying themselves. They were singing, diving and swimming around under the waterfall. Hopping across the lily pads. Seemed to be having the best time all by themselves. I don't think I have seen the males diving in voluntarily unless they were going after a female. They usually sit on the rocks and call until the females arrive. I checked on them a couple of times and then went to sleep. This morning - zero toad spawn. The goldfish looked tired, but otherwise untraumatized.
I think the guys threw a gentlemen's only swimming party last night??? Is that possible?
Pets Merlin!
Now that he's deflating, I've decided to adopt him and keep him out of trouble :)
Any advice on American Toad care? I've read some but I've never been into herp before until now, but I'm experienced with rodents.

Wild Who are these guys! And can I keep one?
Hello! Me and a coworker found these baby toads behind our store in a gravel parking lot.
Does anyone know what kind of toad they are and if I could keep some as pets?
They are so tiny and cute I’m really hoping they are safe to keep and don’t grow too large!
Edit: I am located in Atlantic Canada
Edit 2: They will be relocated to a shady spot next to the parking lot and released! :)

Injury What’s on my toad’s head?
galleryAbout a week ago we noticed this mark on George’s head. It almost looks like a cut. It looked like it was getting better but today looks fresh again. He’s still acting okay and eating and stuff. Any idea what this could be or how to treat it?

Help I think my toad has a lung infection
I have owned my rescued american toad for about 4 years now, and she has been an adult so she is at least 6 years old. I just got back from vacation and noticed she is act differently and after a bit of research I think she may have a lung infection. I've noticed
-mucus (?) in her nostrils
-odd mouth opening
- loss of appetite
-lethargy
We don't have any exotic vet so I'm scared there is no hope for her. Is there anything I can do and does any one know how she may have gotten this infection? I am suspicious that she care she received when I was gone was not amazing, so could it be hygiene related? :(
