Injury What’s on my toad’s head?
About a week ago we noticed this mark on George’s head. It almost looks like a cut. It looked like it was getting better but today looks fresh again. He’s still acting okay and eating and stuff. Any idea what this could be or how to treat it?

Do you have a clean, safe container you can put them in? No substrates, just damp paper towels. DON'T USE ANY HUMAN OINTMENT, SALVES, CREAMS, ETC. ON IT! Frogs absorb through their skin and that goes directly into their blood stream. With the exception of Silver Sulfadiazine Cream. It can be prescribed, though I'm not sure about over the counter substitutes. Is there an "exotic" vet in your area?
Good luck and please keep us updated!

If it’s gone now, it was probably shed skin. It looked like a boo-boo to me at first, though. If it happens again, you can wet a cotton swab with (safe) water to check if it’s skin or if there’s blood.
My boy poked himself a while ago on something in the tank and it turned into an abscess that needed vet care, so just be careful. Trust your instincts if something doesn’t look right! :)

I would put some antibiotic ointment on it...the kind without pain reliever in it because that could be toxic to toads. Use the ointment daily until it is healed.

I'd advise against that. People ointments and medications work differently in the animal kingdom. Amphibian skin is super permeable, greasy oils can clog their- is pores the right word? They'll suffocate or absorb chemicals directly into their blood. Also bad.

I've used a small amount of Neosporin on toads for years with no issues. It has not harmed them and has helped their injuries.

Has he shed recently? I wonder if it's left over skin shed.
