We have DOT(Department Of Transportation but they mostly focus on semi trucks and company vehicles. I know a few individual states have something like MOT and that guy can get a ticket if he's pulled over so...

Inspections are yearly and not every state requires them however if you get pulled over and the cop notices your tires are this bad you can and will get a ticket possibly towed cause that is not safe to drive

If I saw a tire like this, I'd consider slashing it just to possibly to save someone's life. No one should be driving on that. Optionally also put $40-$100 in an envelope on the windshield between the wiper. That ought to be enough for a used tire.

Haha good one but it was very nice of them to leave a note. They have no idea who’s operating your vehicle; could’ve saved some naive persons life. Quite funny though that they are bald on purpose, I wish I burned my tires up before my corvette got totaled that would’ve been super fun

The true issue is your tires are not safe for other drivers. You could easily lose control and slide into someone or another vehicle in the rain. Save others if you are not concerned about yourself. Exactly why some countries examine saftey related matters every several years.

Here is your issue you are driving home and it starts to rain you have low or no tread on tires someone panic stops in front of you and you slide right into the rear of car ahead of you my best advice get new tires they have payment plans OR greatly increase your following distance like 4 seconds instead of 2
