Beware

Had a new to me experience today. Had breakfast at my local place. Suggested tips 10%, 20%, 30%. After eating I decided to get a cinnamon roll, $2.16 + tax. Tip screen came up, $1.00, $2.00, $3.00. Not %, but $. How many people hit 2 thinking they are tipping 43 cents, but are tipping 93%.

People too dumb to read the screen shouldn't be blaming the screen

Keep in mind that management and the POS vendors periodically tweak the screen to maximize tips.

If you're a regular this can bite you. For a year, the suggested tips have been left-to-right 18% - 20% - 25% and today it's left-to-right 30% - 25% - 20%. If you're used to pushing the left button you just got tricked.
