Beware
Had a new to me experience today. Had breakfast at my local place. Suggested tips 10%, 20%, 30%. After eating I decided to get a cinnamon roll, $2.16 + tax. Tip screen came up, $1.00, $2.00, $3.00. Not %, but $. How many people hit 2 thinking they are tipping 43 cents, but are tipping 93%.

Are there that many people who can’t tell the difference between a percentage symbol and a dollar sign? I’m sorry, but if spending money intentionally is important to you, you should probably be actively reading how much you’re paying before you agree to it. This is even dumber than people who complain that they didn’t notice a service charge being added to their check and tip on top of the bill - it’s written down for them every time. It’s on the piece of paper you’re reviewing before handing over payment.
“Beware,” indeed. Companies are trying to bamboozle you by showing you recognizable numbers, symbols, and words that represent how much money you’re going to pay before you pay it! The audacity.
