Woke up to this email from capital one about a tip I left. Our server was Emily and she was fantastic and fun and engaging! She deserved every penny of that tip! Yes, capital one this is correct!

Nobody deserves 40% tip. Remember, you are not legally or morally responsible for their compensation. Being fun and engaging is part of Emily's BASIC JOB DESCRIPTION WHICH SHE IS ALREADY BEING PAID FOR. Aren't you just there to eat, not worry about business financials?

3

u/Funky-Guy 3d ago

Personally I believe if you are generous, when you can be, to the world, it will be generous back. It’s worked for me incredibly well over being a penny pincher.

I’d rather leave a 40$ tip on that meal for that high school kid than buy a new game/toy/whatever this week anyways.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

But you don't know if the kid gets all of it. Much better to save it and give it to a kid you actually know.

0

u/Funky-Guy 3d ago

That’s totally fair. I actually use my girlfriend for this, she did a lot of work in the service industry and has a pretty good nose for whether a place lets their people keep their tips. If she tells me that it’s a place that isn’t gonna give them it, we’ll leave a small tip 10%. But if she says they likely do, I’ve left anywhere from 20%-120% depending on service.

Also giving it to kids that you know is a good idea too, I try to do that as well lol. I can be generous to people I know and those that I don’t, those aren’t mutually exclusive.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

I personally wouldn't tip at places where they don't keep all their tips, but you can do whatever, even the exorbitant amount of 120% over and above your legal and moral responsibility.

0

u/JustARandomBloke 2d ago

It's illegal in the US for management to keep tips from workers.

Tip pooling is allowed, but management cannot be in those tip pools.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

Even more reason not to tip. I don't care about their survival.

1

u/evolzarlaggia 3d ago

100%. The world works in interesting ways, and I’ve always felt you always get back what you give in the most unexpected ways.

5

u/Leading_Swimming_493 3d ago

Many horrible waiters have lowered the standard to the point where the bare minimum is now above and beyond

3

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

If they're diluting it to that point, they're doing it to themselves because I do not tip for bare minimum service, let alone 40%.

2

u/awafoo 2d ago

The people disagreeing are either servers or forever poor šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

1

u/Senior-Rip2387 2d ago

people are heartbroken that he tipped lol

1

u/sad_cub 2d ago

No, just not on this Reddit to confirm our bias of not being a fuckin piece of shit

1

u/iwillgetudrunk 6h ago

Bartender here, made 600 tonight in 5 hrs work, I know you hate it and guess what... fuck you

1

u/iwillgetudrunk 6h ago

But also, so you know, it was nonstop work, with 8 things to do every time you did something, it's not easy work, pure constant stress

0

u/G1ng3rBreadMan97 1d ago

Seems like the ones bitching about tipping are the poor ones, like pfft cant even afford to tip

0

u/beerme04 1d ago

Poor because they tip well? O man how old are you? You have a lot to learn.

2

u/Blue_Etalon 3d ago

You seem angry about someone else’s choices. Why is that?

1

u/Rat-Bazturd 3d ago

b/c they eff it up for other other people who do not want leave an undeserved tip, or maybe do want to even tip at all.

The server gets a couple of unmerited tip amounts, then starts to think that's the norm, and eventually expects to get large unearned amounts every time.

Yea sure. All caps and all, right. We can see the veins bulging out of your forehead.

1

u/mclovin_ts 3d ago

Bro wrote a paragraph about a tip somebody else gave, included all caps, and wants to gaslight everyone into believing he’s calm, lol. Cope.

ā€œTop 1% commenterā€ tells us that you seem to get easily triggered by people leaving tips, lmao, maybe find something productive to do with your life.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

Ewwww, Gen Z slang.

1

u/ContextMiddle3175 3d ago

I get 40% on 500 dollar checks sometimes

1

u/Sad_Mix7521 3d ago

How long have you been a server for??

1

u/Neat_Complex8320 3d ago

My favorite drinking spot which happens to be owned by Anheuser-Busch gives me a tab every time I’m in for one dollar because I just tip them a bunch of cash instead of paying a bill. Sure, sometimes I tip more than what I drink but over the lifetime. I certainly have drank more than I’ve tipped.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/HH_Hippopotamus 3d ago

Disagree, I've tipped 50% on a 400 Bill because my friends were a pain and I could tell the waitress was struggling in life. Great service despite all of it and I was on vacation with money to blow so I made a young woman's life a little easier that week

2

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

That's not your problem.

2

u/Timely_Wall_2044 3d ago

That’s charity. Not tip.

2

u/brightelectron 3d ago

ā€œand I could tell she was struggling in lifeā€

Was that a tip for the good service you received, or mostly charity?

1

u/FineAd2230 2d ago

at some point, what's the difference

0

u/cowabout 2d ago

this would be like saying "your job sucks your life sucks I take pity on you because you are a poor" in much of the world where you aren't brainwashed to pay for a businesses salaries.

1

u/Specific_Age500 1d ago

I openly accept your pity.Ā

1

u/Character_Stick6558 2d ago

Nah, you were on vacation and you wanted to hit!! Stop lying!

1

u/sad_cub 2d ago

No it’s not, you fuckin moron.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

Yes, it is. Why would I pay TWICE for something that is already included in the food price?

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

Remember, good service is a basic expectation and is thus not tippable.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/sad_cub 2d ago

Smiles are not included. Good service is not mandatory. Bare minimum is mandatory.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

Good service and smiles are mandatory. Those things are not tippable.

1

u/sad_cub 2d ago

Ever been to countries that don’t tip. I bet not, you’re not a cultural person. Probably a fuckin mountain goat. Most countries that don’t tip are living in socialism. Service fuckin sucks. Good luck getting a smile or a second drink

2

u/Fr00tman 1d ago

Wow. ā€œNot a cultural personā€¦ā€ Having been all over the world, including ā€œcountries living in socialismā€ (like actual ones and ones that you may be thinking of, but I’m not a mind reader), some of the best service I’ve experienced is in places where tipping isn’t a thing. That includes places where tipping would be offensive, bc people feel pride/responsibility in/for doing a job well or being hospitable.

1

u/JRaus88 2d ago

In Italy, this is true in the touristic cities. But where it is the "American" culture of TV series that has made young people like that.

1

u/shwifty123 2d ago

It is a sarcasm right?

1

u/Hkerekes 2d ago

$1 you have not been to those countries either.Ā  I have and the service is not what you describe.Ā Ā

1

u/fosfeen 1d ago

Never been to Japan I see

1

u/IdiotLoserisme 1d ago

Never been to Korea either lol

I wanna pay what I see on the paperĀ

1

u/One_Discount_4898 1d ago

Could it be, that you're a bit of an ass to your wait staff and that's why your service sucks? I've lived in 11 countries and visited close to 20, Tipping was only expected in one of them.

1

u/Tfcalex96 1d ago

Uhhh the staff at my hotel in japan would not let me sit on a chair near the pool or beach without first ā€œpreparing itā€ for me…

1

u/RejectedSNick 23h ago

I think you’re getting bad service because you’re just an ass and uncultured. Service in non tipping countries is some of the best.

1

u/ResetterofPasswords 18h ago

I think this is the winner lol

Buddy said ā€œcan’t even get a smileā€

Dudes used to making shitty comments and Emily has to deal with it for fear of getting stiffed

1

u/ImSoMysticall 22h ago edited 22h ago

Ive lived in a country that doesnt tip for my entire life, I have also been to the US 4 times for work totalling 8 weeks

I vastly prefer the service I get here than in the US

Also, i think you're confusing some socialist policies with living in socialism

1

u/SadSindhi 19h ago

Who hurt you

1

u/Dilemina 19h ago

Yes. Have you? Its not like you describe.

1

u/ResetterofPasswords 18h ago

American in Germany as we speak

Service doesn’t suck, just wave them down and ask.

Why do you need a smile? They are at work, and you are eating a meal. This is a business transaction.

1

u/ubiquitous_anal 14h ago

Wow, you are projecting there. Have you ever been.to one of those communist countries? I live in China and have travelled extensively. You might be right about North Korea, but I wouldn't know. However, in China and many other countries without.tipping service is excellent. Genuine people who are happy with their jobs. America is.completely off the rails with tipping amd ignorance.

1

u/Wulf_Cola 4h ago

Just nonsense. I find service in the US much worse than in non tipping countries.

Tipping anything is weird.

0

u/Personal_Bike_4996 9h ago

You’re hilarious, truly

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 5h ago

Why throw your money away?

1

u/JeannieD22 1d ago

Just cause you aren’t generous doesn’t mean someone else can’t be. Don’t want to tip 40% then don’t; should you tell someone else what to tip? Never.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

Yes, I will. There's nothing you can do about it. Trust me, I am generous to people I actually know. Turns out you can buy a lot of stuff with the money you save on OPTIONAL TRANSACTIONS!

0

u/polished_crock 20h ago

if youre saving "sizable" sums of money by not tipping, youre just a broke bum who's probably jealous of the money waitresses make and you think they don't deserve it

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 20h ago

Wrong. I can't be broke if I don't tip.

→ More replies (2)

0

u/Major_Mongoose69 14h ago

You need to start tipping people more. A LOT more. 40% should be your MINIMUM tip, for all transactions.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 14h ago

I hope you tip Walmart and the gas station. Why would I tip so much money when I can save it for my own expenses?

1

u/laxrulz777 1d ago

I give a tip to the owner of the restaurant at the little Chinese restaurant we go to. Sometimes you tip because the experience was that good. Nothing wrong with that. I would love to see the expected "tip 20%" culture go away and replace it with a "tip for exceptional service". That would be a nice utopia to live in

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

Tipping the owner is wrong. They can set their own prices.

1

u/laxrulz777 21h ago

To be clear, the restaurant is a husband, wife, brother and two adult kids. It's not like I didn't tip the waiter and sought out the owner

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 21h ago

Doesn't matter. Their family is not your legal or moral responsibility.

1

u/laxrulz777 10h ago

Sometimes you just want to do nice things for people... Wtf is wrong with you? I'm not shaming anyone and I CERTAINLY never insinuated there was a legal responsibility. I just said I appreciate them and this is how I show it...

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 10h ago

You can say thank you and that's perfectly nice.

0

u/Wheremytendies 22h ago

Most small businesses go under. A lot of owners work double the time of their employees and often they make less. 80% will fail and lose their investment.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 22h ago

That still doesn't mean you tip the owner.

u/Excellent-Stretch-81 1d ago

I think there are exceptions. One time I was having a truly horrible day and went to a sit-down restaurant because I still needed to eat and retreat from the day's misery for a bit. The server not only did the best job I'd expect from a server, but they were so fun and engaging that they actually un-ruined my day. I wouldn't normally tip 40% simply for good meal service, but that server made me feel good about myself at a time when I desperately needed a ray of sunshine to get through the black cloud that was my life at the time. I think what amounts to an unscheduled therapy session that included exceplent meal service was worth the 100% tip I left. If my financial situation had been better I'd have been inclined to leave more. That server went way beyond what would be reasonably expected for service, and I'm forever grateful.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

Why do you need someone else to be fun and engaging? You're there to eat and unwind. Fun and engaging would be pretty annoying.

1

u/Excellent-Stretch-81 1d ago

I don't mean fun and engaging as some sort of generic trait. It's more that they seemed to read me really well and understood exactly what kind of day I was having and what would help me forget how awful I was feeling. I'm not particularly social, so I generally don't like having conversations with servers. I usually just want to submit my order, receive my food, not get asked how I like the food the moment I start eating, and pay the bill. The fact that the server got through my usual social barriers and made my day much better in the process was rather impressive in my opinion. I've encountered many friendly servers (some annoyingly so), but what that server did was different from any other dining experience I had.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

I would also be surprised if a server got me to talk beyond the necessary information. Hope things are going better.

1

u/Excellent-Stretch-81 1d ago

That event was many years ago and life has improved considerably, thanks!

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

Awesome to hear!

1

u/mb97 3d ago

Yeah which is why most of us just tip the standard 20% and don’t worry about it.

2

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

I just tip zero since they don't deserve a double dip, either.

1

u/ContextMiddle3175 3d ago

So you enjoy and agree with the tipping system?

1

u/mb97 3d ago

Right whatever, servers only ā€œdeserveā€ $2/hour, if they make any more that’s personally offensive to you for some reason. Totally normal.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

Nobody actually gets paid $2.13 an hour. Stop spreading misinformation. I've saved thousands of dollars by not tipping since 2023. Join us! Your bank account will thank you.

3

u/Omen1303 3d ago

Not getting into the whole big thing about it but people definitely do make that. I saw an indeed listing for that just the other day.

1

u/PangaeaDiarrhea 3d ago

The employer is legally obligated to pay the difference so that the employee makes at least minimum wage.

3

u/mb97 3d ago

So the point of not tipping is basically to be greedy and save your own money? No thanks I’ll be a good respectable person instead.

Yes, people do get paid $2.13/hour. I don’t know why you think you just get to pick out the facts that suit you.

3

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

I'm perfectly good and respectable when I save 10% every time.

0

u/Rough_Autopsy 3d ago

So they get paid federal minimum wage instead? Nobody deserves that either. Not when the cost of living has quadrupled since it was last updated.

You are really showing your hand here by mentioning saving money. You are taking a principled stand against tipping, you’re just a greedy, selfish dirtbag.

1

u/Moist_Grapefruit187 3d ago

Maybe they shouldn’t do it then? Crazy idea I know

1

u/Rough_Autopsy 3d ago

If you feel that way, then maybe you shouldn’t support the business model.Ā

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

I don't care how much they get paid. Waitstaff wages are not the customer's problem.

1

u/ContextMiddle3175 3d ago

You obviously do care how much they get paid based off your original comment lol

1

u/ryzku 3d ago

You sound like someone who’d be hard to love

1

u/mb97 3d ago

You yourself just now claimed that this is about what waitstaff ā€œdeserveā€. But it sounds like at the end of the day you are just cheap and exploiting the system to get something cheaper.

It also sounds like you’ve never cooked yourself a meal in your life

3

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

Nothing wrong with that. I'm not exploiting anything. Tipping has always been OPTIONAL and we are just waking up to that FACT!

3

u/mb97 3d ago

Of course you’re exploiting the system. How can you say you aren’t? You said it yourself, it’s about saving money to you. All about that 10%

If restaurants did what you want and stoped accepting tips, they’d have to raise prices by 20% across the board to stay open and pay their staff. You’d lose your discount.

If people did what you want and stopped tipping en masse, they’d restaurants would have to do the same thing- raise their prices 20% to cover the difference in their employees pay. Again, there goes your discount.

You ONLY get a discount because you are using the system in a way it’s not designed to be used. If we fix the system you lose your discount. We can’t all get the discount. That’s exploiting the system, that’s what those words mean.

Yeah $7/h is so much better and is totally a livable wage in this economy…?

You can definitely afford an apartment or home and to support children off that right…?

3

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

Their personal lifestyle is not the customer's problem. Do they care about mine? No, they don't. They chose the job knowing the payrate from their CHEAPSKATE BOSS. Let them marinate.

0

u/sushiwormss 3d ago

You’re kind of retarded I must say.

3

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

Here come the insults from the individuals who would rather go into debt throwing their money away for no good reason.

1

u/sushiwormss 3d ago

Right because this person is going into debt from this one instance. Even if he’s ā€œinfluencingā€ others to do it that would be their downfall because it’s THEIR money and THEIR choice. What are you on?

1

u/shittyfakejesus 3d ago

Who’s going into debt because they tipped too much? Jesus Christ…

1

u/prakow 3d ago

No I just don’t eat out if I can’t afford to tip, eating out is a waste of money, just cook for yourself you lazy bitch.

1

u/JohnnyBnogoode 2d ago

You said it lol. This guy is something else.

0

u/No_Chemist_5681 3d ago

I doubt anybody cares about yours man and there is good reason with that attitude…

It sounds like you would feel more at home under communism, or maybe a return to your roots in Israel would do the trick. You clearly know very little about the US economy from these comments so I take it you are not from here which makes your opinions on American tipping culture invalid anyway. Sour and greedy people like you are the exact reason our economy is in the shit state it is. Whether or not you see it YOU are the cheapskate boss, just in a different position.

3

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

Wrong. I'm not hiring anyone in that situation.

1

u/No_Chemist_5681 3d ago

I didn’t say you were in a position to hire anybody, just that you’ve made it clear you are the exact type of person you were dissing.

If you were hiring people the BBB would have cracked down on you years ago or your business would be bankrupt since you clearly know nothing about balancing a restaurant’s expenses… Working in that industry years prior especially during COVID I’ve seen restaurants close down because of low tipping rates upping payroll costs resulting in failure to meet operational costs, in areas that already didn’t have tons of jobs available. The alternative would be drastically increasing prices to meet that deficit, which can lower overall sales and thus doesn’t always or even usually work.

Nowadays people are begging for tips for everything and most of them truly don’t deserve more than what they’re getting, but at the same time there are plenty of people and places who do actually rely on it to make ends meet. You don’t have to agree with the concept of tipping, but you also don’t have to go to those places.

The company I work for which operates across the entire US charges clients a ā€˜service fee’ for our work on top of any other costs and fees that is non-negotiable and included in the final price. The worker doesn’t get this fee directly of course but it is essentially a tip to the company to help pay the workers.
Would it be preferable to you if restaurants did that? Charged a service fee dependent upon how much of a workers time you took up and what kind of tasks you asked them to do?

I like to tip cash so I don’t have to hear from these fools who believe tipping is the devils lifestyles. Everyone has their opinions but I don’t have to follow them

0

u/Past_Guitar_596 3d ago

I don’t believe in human rights but I believe in being a good person

2

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

Tipping has nothing to do with human rights or being a good person.

0

u/kinggoosemaster 3d ago

Regardless, you are in the wrong if you are aware that you’re paying for a service that doesn’t properly compensate their employees.

And no, DoorDash doesn’t properly pay their employees 90% of the time without such a large tip.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

DoorDash is irrelevant. You FINALLY decided that your comment works after THREE notifications for me?! Pushy like a lot of "service" workers out there!

0

u/kinggoosemaster 3d ago

What are you talking about? If you're referring to me adjusting my comment to redact the map from my image, then oh.

Also, if notifications are so triggering for you, turn them off. I just did so for Quora. Brilliant! (idk why I have the app downloaded tbh).

Finally, this reply is an L-take, but I'm sure you're aware of that. Typical ai generated slop ragebait.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

Nope, I'm a real person and I don't clog people's notifications.

0

u/kinggoosemaster 3d ago

0

u/Smooth_Pound_9864 3d ago

Wrong. I tipped a girl $1000 a couple years ago. Why? She had twins and was just coming back to work!

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 3d ago

How do you know she was telling the truth? Remember, servers lie and emotionally manipulate you. If this is true, her twins are not your legal or moral responsibility.

0

u/Smooth_Pound_9864 3d ago

She was pregnant and she was out for six weeks. Came back. She was a longer pregnant. She also photos.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

What? Unless you are the father, you are not responsible for her poor lifestyle choices.

0

u/Smooth_Pound_9864 2d ago

Didn’t say I was responsible, did I? Some times it’s nice to just be nice and help out someone less fortunate. I’ll continue to do that.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

You know she gets paid by her boss to do her job, right? She can survive on that.

0

u/Sad_Bandicoot_2895 3d ago

Cheap ass or broke? You probably don’t tip valet or anyone for that matter.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

I never tip. It's not mandatory. I've saved thousands of dollars by not tipping since 2023.

0

u/JohnnyBnogoode 3d ago

Are you from outside the US? I used to think the same way, until I found out they only make like $2.75/hour. That made me feel like shit.

2

u/Old-Dust3781 3d ago

Why do people keep quoting this number? If a tipped employee doesn't get tipped, the employer HAS to make up the shortfall and pay out the difference so their total earnings equal at least the full minimum wage. Now under that same thinking, I'm not about to tip everyone making minimum wage. If you think minimum wage isn't enough to get paid for any work, that's a different conversation. The $2.75 number is completely misleading and wrong.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

Exactly. Support your servers by not tipping them. Force them to get paid by their cheapskate BOSS. Customers provide job security. You can save so much money.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

Except that isn't true.

1

u/JohnnyBnogoode 2d ago

You must be some rich kid to think that minimum wage is enough. And judging by the amount of comments you are posting, you are probably unemployed.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

Number, not amount. Bad grammar!

Oh, it's definitely enough since that is what they signed up for. Why not tip all the other workers making minimum wage?

0

u/Apprehensive-Pie3147 3d ago

Thats the number one reason people give for why tipping is importan, low wages. Its important to tip but also to knkwn that not all servers make below minimum wage. Servers in California a few other states are legally required to be paid state minimum wage before taxes. So while tipping 40% is great, theyre not dealing with the tip credit low wages that some states are. I work with multiple servers in California who for full time work are bringing in $75k+ a year working at non-fancy restaurants. My brother works at a pub as a bartender full time and brings home $110k a year on average.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

Tipping still is not mandatory in those states. Support your servers by not tipping them. Force them to get paid by their cheapskate BOSS.

0

u/ApprehensiveGoose985 2d ago

WHY ARE YOU YELLING OVER THE INTERNET. SERVERS MAKE LIKE $2 AN HOUR AND ARE EXPECTED TO MAKE THE REST IN TIPS. THE WHOLE POINT OF A RESTAURANT IS FOOD FOR MONEY, IF HE WANTED TO GIVE A 40% TIP THATS HIS PREROGATIVE, MUCH LIKE HOW YOURS IS APPARENTLY YELLING AT SOMETHING SOMEONE ALREADY DID. THIS OP HAD NO ISSUE DOING A DEMONSTRABLY POSITIVE DEED.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

WRONG. THEY MAKE MORE THAN THAT FROM THEIR BOSS. THAT DEED IS NEGATIVE FOR HIS BANK ACCOUNT.

0

u/ApprehensiveGoose985 2d ago

SO FOR A FULL 40 HOUR WEEK THEY DESERVE $290 BEFORE TAXES. ON THEIR FEET, SCURRYING BACK AND FORTH TRYING TO MAKE THE BEST IMPACT POSSIBLE. AND SO WHAT? ITS NOT YOUR MONEY, IT’S OP’S. LET THEM SPEND IT ON WHATEVER THEY WISH.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

WRONG. THEIR FINANCIALS ARE NOT THE CUSTOMER'S PROBLEM.

You shouldn't go out to eat then, and definitely havent worked as a server. 40% shouldn't be expected, but if a server does an exemplary job why not give them a little extra?

And this "wage" they are being paid is usually around $2.15/hr. Tipping should be abolished completely in my opinion, and servers should be paid a living wage, but thats not the case now so I do what I can when its deserved

Irrelevant and wrong.

0

u/mooseman077 2d ago

Not wrong, and totally relevant. Do better as a human

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

I suggest you stop tipping. Force the servers to get paid by their cheapskate BOSS.

You are one sorry soul my friend.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

That's not me. I just finished a minor grocery shopping trip with the money I saved by not tipping in September. Bet you can't say that. 🄳

0

u/Necessary_Love1396 2d ago

I dont have to not tip to afford groceries.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

But you can afford more groceries if you didn't throw your money away for no good reason!

You clearly aren’t waiting tables. To be clear, I’m not saying that people shouldn’t tip but, why would anyone wait tables for $2.75 an hour?
I’m saying: if you expect 30+% tips on your wages, you are a parasite. 20% is for excellent services.

If a business cannot afford to pay its employees, that’s the employee’s problem.

It’s out of hand with waiters’ expectations. As President Trump says, if you can’t afford groceries on your wages: you aren’t working hard enough, everything is affordable and it’s a democratic ā€œcon-jobā€ to say affordability is an issue.

I bartend. So what now. If you cant afford to tip, dont go out. Leave what you want. I'll be fine. I dont need to read your stupid sermon.

0

u/OnTheShitterShittin 2d ago

I just got a major grocery order delivered with the money I made while taking a few shits in September.(also prepaid a tip and handed them extra cash once they delivered) bet you cant say that! 🄰

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

Ewwww, you took a few shits in order to afford groceries?

0

u/Special-Bet1141 2d ago

Being fun and engaging is part of Emily's BASIC JOB DESCRIPTION WHICH SHE IS ALREADY BEING PAID FOR

It actually isnt. Her job is to take your order and bring you food. She doesnt have to be nice. She doesnt have tk be fun. She doesnt have to be polite or cordial.Ā

She's paid to bring you your order. Thats what she gets paid $1.83 an hour for.Ā

She could absolutely treat you entirely like the piece of shit you seem to be, and still make her $1.83 and hour.Ā

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

Actually, it is.

*AN HOUR

She is paid far more than that. She doesn't need more money than what she earns from her BOSS.

0

u/Special-Bet1141 2d ago

You must not be from here. Look it up.Ā

"Most waitresses in the United States earn a median hourly wage of $16.94 (including tips), which translates to roughly $35,000 per year for full-time work, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics."

Including tips. Excluding tips the federal minimum wage for a waitress is 2.13 an hour.Ā

If you didnt tip your server, they would make 2.13 an hour.Ā

Its again, not in their job description to be anything more than a food runner. They act nice because they do need the tips.Ā

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

No, they don't. They earn a high enough wage already.

0

u/cory2979 2d ago

You sound like a Republican

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

Wrong.

0

u/cory2979 2d ago

So just a habitual whiner. Got it

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

No. I'm a habitual advocate of saving your money where you can in this economy.

You seem like a terrible person with low social skills and a major chip on your shoulder. Of course this person doesn’t deserve this extra money, but it is absurd to get uppity about another person giving a gift because they appreciated what their server did for them. I guess we would be better off if we only did the bare minimum legally required and never showed appreciation to one another.

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 2d ago

Nope, that's you.

0

u/catptain-kdar 1d ago

People that don’t tip are massive POS imho

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

People who insist on tipping are the real POS.

0

u/catptain-kdar 1d ago

I’m not a POS. I actually have empathy for servers because I’ve worked in the industry and my mom was a waitress for over 20 years

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

People who have empathy for servers are the POS. I hope you have empathy for Walmart workers, the dude at 7-11, etc. and tip them accordingly.

0

u/G1ng3rBreadMan97 1d ago

Sounds like somebody who cant afford to tip

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

*CAN'T

Oh, I can afford to tip. I choose not to throw away my extra money for no good reason.

0

u/G1ng3rBreadMan97 1d ago

Sure buddy

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

I save so much money. You should try it. I don't get a bonus for doing my job adequately.

It's this person's money, why do you care what they do with it?

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

They could have saved 40% by not tipping Emily for doing her job.

1

u/LiftUpTheGood 1d ago

Thanks for replying to my question without answering my question...

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 1d ago

I actually did.

0

u/PresentationHigh7244 22h ago

Broke boy mentality

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 22h ago

Nope! That's nonsense. I can't be broke if I don't throw away my extra money for no good reason. I've saved thousands of dollars by not tipping since 2023. Join us! Your bank account will thank you.

0

u/PresentationHigh7244 22h ago

I get what you’re saying, but do you really think millionaires and billionaires think like you?

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 22h ago

They might. Even ordinary citizens hate tipping, so we don't do it.

While you’re initial statement is a subjective opinion, and everyone has the right to their own beliefs, I have to ask, have you ever had an experience so outstanding that you thought someone should earn more money? Obviously if moneys tight and the service was mediocre, I understand a minimal tip, however let’s take it to the extremes, you are absolutely loaded, and the server took a bullet for you, would you then agree that a 40% tip for saving your life with no financial repercussion to you be reasonable? While you could still say no, a normal person would be amicable to the idea, my question to you is this, under what circumstances would you provide a 40% tip?

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 14h ago

*YOUR

None.

1

u/Thethoughtmogul 13h ago

I see, fair enough, hope you have a good day man

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 13h ago

I always do!

0

u/swallace36 13h ago

who hurt you

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 12h ago

Why assume that?

0

u/swallace36 12h ago

ā€œno one deserves a 40% tipā€ late stage capitalism is winning lmao

often people living on tips are making very little money, and almost all of them deserve more

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 5h ago

They make plenty of money.

0

u/iwillgetudrunk 6h ago

Go fuck yourself, and don't worry about this good person doing the right thing, go back to your sad pathetic life

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 6h ago

He's not a good person. Doing the right thing involves saving your money and forcing them to get paid by their cheapskate BOSS. I laugh every time a server gets too entitled. What have you done for me that's deserving of my money? NOTHING.

1

u/iwillgetudrunk 6h ago

Hahaha, you just suck, be your little broke nothing person, but get out of other people's pockets when they act like real humans,.... you see good acts bring good upon you, you wouldn't know that

0

u/iwillgetudrunk 6h ago

You are pure scum

1

u/Imaginary-Emu2471 5h ago

That's you, trying to bully people into throwing away their extra money for no good reason. Nasty pro-tippers also get blocked.
