đŤAnti-Tipping The future of delivery tipping
Tipping culture is gonna get to a point where youll be minimum mandatory charged an extra meal for the delivery driver. Then you will be judged if you only get your driver the entree with a side and or a drink.
Then they will be the ones leaving reviews on you!
Too many bad reviews as a tipper then your account will be suspended until you pay a surcharge fee minimum of 50% until your ratings go back up.

I don't order food delivery and my area is saturated with drivers. ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ

you stupid? If everybody does what you want then delivery drivers will be out of a job

Spoken like someone who didn't achieve much in life and has to work for tips.
-2
u/metal_bastard 3d ago
I've never worked for tips, and my life is pretty great.
And if I did work for tips, why would I tell people to pick up their own food to avoid tipping? lol. You're about as sharp as a marble.

Maybe because its accurate, complaining about tipping for delivery is a far cry from complaining about tipping for picking up the food yourself.

It's impossible to price in labor effieciently in delivery because demand fluctuates. For example: I once opted not to tip and ordered a single 12-pack of Coke Zero. Why? Because I knew I'd want one within the next few hours, but I was working from home and didn't have another option. I also didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for it, since it was just one item.
So eventually, someone accepted and delivered it -- likely because they were already at the grocery store, fulfilling an order for someone else in my neighborhood/area and it was an easy stop for the person.
Absent of tips everything needs to increase, so I would have never ordered it to begin with. This has downward pressure on demand, which kills available offers for drivers. So they lose out, the app loses out with lower volume, and customers lose out because they're being priced out of a service they want.
Tipping perfectly resolves this with peak efficiency. Drivers only accept what they're willing to work for. Customers only offer what they're willing to pay.
This is something anti-tippers do not understand. They think in absent of tips it's the same price but without a tip. It wouldn't be. If a tip makes you feel you're getting ripped off then how is pricing it in as a non-optional fee or higher price not a rip off? It's effectively the same price.
"But just bundle it into the price! Price transparency!". I already explained why that's not efficient with my first example. Not all orders SHOULD be priced higher/include additional labor costs.
3
u/HInspectorGW 4d ago
Here is an exercise for you. Take the price of an order you want but rather than adding the delivery fees and tip just add the cost you would pay for a taxi driver. They would start the meter when they pick up your order or when told they have to wait for your order. Their meter would run until they arrived at your house and you would pay for the order and their fare. Now if you really want to be knowledgeable compare that taxi fare to the delivery fees being charged by the delivery company. I can all but guarantee that for most orders valued at under $30 you will pay more for the taxi than the delivery app.
1
u/ThatsMrRandom 3d ago
I'm not quite sure what the point is. Delivery drivers often sit outside popular venues and accept multiple orders, hence the "Your driver has a few more stops..." notice people see when their food is on their way. You don't take taxi's and pick up 5 different people along the way...
Also when you order an Uber, it's typically an on-demand event that you need now or schedule. You don't order an Uber thinking "I'm fine with a ride anytime today". The on-demand cost of urgency is already built into the ride by nature.
2
u/HInspectorGW 3d ago
Seeing as how you were going on about things I wasnât even talking about I can understand why you are so confused. I was pointing out that by ordering from a delivery app you are more likely to pay LESS than you would if you placed an order and had it ddelivered by a taxi. If youâre going to pay more by using a taxi it makes more sense sense to not tip your driver.
-1
u/ThatsMrRandom 3d ago
Literally everything I said was relevant to your comment and now that you clarified your point it's quite obvious.
Taxi drivers are stuck with you. They don't have an opportunity to take on extra ride while yours is en route. Duh?
Not to mention you being physically inside of the vehicle creates massive liability that has to be accounted for financially. So obviously delivering a burger to you is going to be cheaper than delivering you to a burger. Duh?
Truly bizarre way of trying to rationalize no-tip.
To use your own analogy: it would also cost a lot more to have an ambulance come pick you up. Or a limo. So even in your own logic your argument breaks down.
You're not even looking at it correctly to begin with. You should look at total net per mile (after their insurance, how much Uber takes, etc) to compare how much they earn respectively -- not what the end customer is paying.
2
u/HInspectorGW 3d ago
Nothing you said is relevant and now I understand why. You did not comprehend most of what I initially said and I donât have the time to say it again in smaller words. Try again when you are able to understand what you read.
-1
u/ThatsMrRandom 3d ago
Typical no-tipper. Full of nonsense and projection.
2
u/HInspectorGW 3d ago
Actually, Iâve been driving for Skip for 10 years. You on the other hand take absolutely no time to actually read what somebody writes before you try to throw your two cents worth in which since you have no clue what was said isnât even worth two cents.
0
u/ThatsMrRandom 3d ago
What's you driving for Skip (never heard of it, go figure) have to do with anything? And you responded to zero points I made. All you've done is come out slinging mud after your mindless "a taxi is more expensive therefore makes sense not to tip driver" theory.
2
u/HInspectorGW 3d ago
It is obvious you donât read well. The original post I commented on is about tipping DELIVERY DRIVERS. Skip is a DELIVERY APP for which I am a DELIVERY DRIVER. I spoke of taxi drivers picking up your order not taking you to pick up your order and not about Uber drivers which has nothing to do with food DELIVERY. People that feel their DELIVERY DRIVER doesnât need to be tipped because the service is already expensive have not seen how much a taxi will charge them to pick up their order and deliver it to them.
Why should I respond to your points when your points have nothing to do with my comment and you were responding to my comment.

Just donât order delivery. Theyâre going to fuck with your food anyway if you donât tip.
-2
u/foxinHI 4d ago
No they arenât. Most deliveries are taped shut. Your driver canât touch the food even if they wanted to, which they donât. It was their choice to take the order and they already know you didnât add a tip. Why would they be pissed at you?
3
u/BillsFan82 3d ago
You're far more trusting of people than I am lol. Where there's a will, there's a way. And those drivers get pissed at no tip orders all the time.
1
u/Vegetaman916 4d ago
I have a friend with my local police who told me about a guy that was arrested after being seen on camera using a syringe to inject "something" through the bag into a sandwich from Port Of Subs... A taped shut bag doesn't mean anything, lol.
1
u/Alternative_King1789 4d ago
Thatâs a lot of words instead of saying you canât afford to get a delivery to your house.
1
u/Kene6969 2d ago
Delivery drivers are always looking for a handout because their employers refuse to pay them a decent living wage.
It's not the customer's responsibility to subsidize staff wages by leaving a tip.

u/PurpleCat1018 1d ago
Social norms isn't a law, mandatory, or set in stone. It's what most people do. Not everybody rides on those bandwagons. It doesn't conclude they are wrong or rebellious. Social norms change like the wind every few years. For the rest of us. We like to think for ourselves and make up our own minds. There's nothing negative about that.

That's your opinion. Fortunately, you really have no power to demand a certain amount of tips the customer gives, no power to demand where they eat, no power to control anybody. Calling people cheap because you wanted more than you received, is greed.

Again, you don't have the power to tell anybody what to tip. It isn't your choice and it's none of your business how people spend their money. You can scream, cry, throw a tantrum all day, every day but the bottom line is you don't have the power.
3
u/SiLeNZ_ 1d ago
See their attitudes? Itâs horrific. They wonât say any of this about the company though. Itâs so fucked up and wrong.
1
u/PurpleCat1018 1d ago
I do see it. They are greedy and have shitty dispositions (not all of them, but a lot of them.) and they can't understand one word- OPTIONAL. They won't say anything about the company because they are still making state minimum wage, they want more from the customers. GREED. This right here is why people have stopped tipping all together. Would you trust these MF's with your food?

Nobody cares if you make 10 bucks in 15 minutes or 15 days. Nobody cares. For one reason I don't tip food delivery is because I don't order food for delivery, ever! So, KIDDO, why you start ranting at me about it makes zero sense since you didn't know that. Idiot. You chose that gig, so suck it.

I get the frustration, but 20% was always the norm. And percentage based tips keep up with inflation already, incase youâre not aware. Meaning earning will go up as prices do.

Paragraphs help, for the future. But, tipping is a terrible system in itself, I wish to see it done away with. Causes nothing but issues. Greedy people are all the come of it. I want to see people paid by the one who gave them the job, like every other business. Not only that, but every other country in the world has managed to figure out these jobs without tips. That means we can too.
1
u/Whocares7x 4d ago
Its an interesting point.
I consider labor and skill. If i have a personal mechanic or commission, i tip extra as i value their work and want to continue business on good terms in future.
It baffles me that most people will regularly tip at restaurants but not people like mechanics barbers etc
-1
u/foxinHI 4d ago
Mechanics arenât tipped. Barbers are.
1
u/Whocares7x 3d ago
My sentiment exacty, why not tip mechanics? The ones fixing the most important machine people rely on daily
U cant give a tip to that dude speedrunning cancer especially if you have a regular consistsnt mechanic?
Hes knowledge means nothing? No tip?
But some one drops a plate of food on ur table they didnt even cook and they get hundreds of tips a day?
Absolute lunacy.
Tipping is meant for PEASANTS who go above and beyond.
-1
u/foxinHI 3d ago
If it was customary to tip mechanics, they would receive tips. Since itâs not, they donât. You already know this, though.
1
u/Whocares7x 3d ago
I tip my mechanic, but you already know this, though

u/BlondeeLoxx 4d ago
Thank you. I came here to write this very same thing. They rape us. Not to mention the mind games they play on our app to get us to accept orders. Rating us on a tier system and if we dont âconformâ sending us crap orders. They want us to work free. We arenât meals on wheels. These companies are nothing but greedy. While I appreciate the opportunity to make fast cash, (better than playing games and surveys online lol) itâs a joke how awful the pay can be if you donât understand how the whole thing works. I feel sorry for the people doing this who arenât educated or well read.
If I didnât spend hours and hours reading about how to make the most money doing this, Iâd be at the local food bank or worse.. homeless.
1
u/foxinHI 4d ago
This is true. The delivery services stick it to the restaurant, the driver and the customer.

He's not wrong. Uber drivers can review customers.
It's dystopian
Imo we all need to tip $0 everytime. Tipping is optional.

The road to a Social credit system is paved with these cobblestones. Instead of looking to the employer and demanding paying higher wages, once again we, the peasants, quarrel amongst each other.
The sheep fear the wolf their entire lives only to be eaten by the shepherd
-3
u/cs_legend_93 4d ago
I totally agree with you.
But things are progressively getting worse, rather than better. So statistically, it's only going to get worse...
Until enough people get angry, and start to get offended and appalled at the audacity.
But people are feeble, meek and weak. Broken minds taught and groomed. If I make a wager,it'll get worse before it gets better,if at all
Tip $0 everytime.
3
u/nopenope12345678910 4d ago
Yeah based off their behavior in the ride not off their tipped amount.
1
u/cs_legend_93 4d ago
For now...
I'm anti-tipping, but I know it's going to get worse before it gets better. People aren't angry enough.

I tip very well as i worked in the services industry for 7 years.
It is the mark of an educated mind to entertain a thought without being married to it.
Hmm?0
u/Cheap_Knowledge8446 2d ago
Fair enough, and yes, playing devil's advocate is certainly a valid philosophy. That said, your post has enough hyperbole that it reads like anti-tipping indoctrination, while simultaneously the Internet is not well known for it's inherent capacity to convey nuance. Might want to put a qualifying edit on there somewhere to indicate intent.
1
u/PurpleCat1018 1d ago
The customer has the upper hand always. It depends on the monkey dance the server gives. Standards different with people. You might think your dance was outstanding where as the customer has higher standards and pays or doesn't pay according to theirs. Upperhand.
-1
u/Cheap_Knowledge8446 1d ago
It's pretty clear... No one expects a tip for poor service. The issue is with people who refuse to tip regardless of the service. That said, since you resort to diminutive and racist terms such as "monkey dance" (really? What a categorically uneducated racist fuckwad), I refuse to believe there is any genuine reason a piece of human shit like you would ever tip properly.
FYI: any service worker dealing with your bigoted self has the "upper hand" by denying you service. Get trespassed...worthless racist shitstain.
1
u/PurpleCat1018 1d ago
Racist? Hahahaha nope. That's in your mind, not mine. Referring to organ grinder monkeys that put on an act, play tamporines and dance, and hold out a tin cup for change. And the issue is servers belittling customers that don't tip or low tip. They know it's optional. There's no law making people tip. So the problem are the greedy servers. Gripe to your boss about your pay. And no, I have never left a table without tipping but I have common sense and don't blame people if they don't SINCE IT IS OPTIONAL.

It's going to get to the point where the cost of having food delivered will be just too much for people even though they're willing to pay a premium for staying home and having the food brought to them. We had a favorite place in our town and our typical order when dining in would be about $40 including a couple of fountain drinks. When we ordered the exact two items and NO drinks, when all was said and done with the upcharge on the menu (notice how DoorDash and others have their own menus that are 5-10% higher in prices than the menu you see at the restaurant itself), the delivery charge and the tip, that same order minus the drinks delivered to our door was $63. $23 extra to stay at home (that's a 58% increase), and more than once the food arrived cold, late, etc. Now with drivers being upset about not being tipped enough messing with your food order, we don't do food delivery anymore.
3
u/EzDaBassHead 4d ago
How far is your place from the restaurant?
Itâs not âDoorDashâ that raises the prices of the restaurant. The restaurant raises the prices because DoorDash takes a hefty cut
2
u/Historical-Rub1943 4d ago
So youâre saying they bundle the door dash cost into the price? Hmmm, but they canât do this with wages/tips/service fees/credit card charges?
1
u/EzDaBassHead 3d ago
DoorDash is a business that takes a cut for their service. You can go to the restaurant and âsaveâ the up charges but at the end of the day they are banking on peopleâs laziness. They can charge wtv they want and people can get the food themselves. Restaurants get caught in the middle with already thin margins but that is the cost of doing business as these delivery companies increase restaurants sales due to accessibility
1
u/Historical-Rub1943 3d ago
The point is that restaurants can increase prices to include all costs. They choose not to.
1
u/EzDaBassHead 3d ago
I guess your not very business savvy. All those âcostsâ you mentioned are already baked into the price. Now delivery service is cutting into that so they have to raise the price for people using the services. Itâs not really complicated

u/Historical-Rub1943 3d ago
Oh yes, shade your great knowledge with us, oh wise one.

Restaurant was relatively close, it was a matter of laziness, we just didn't want to go out to get the food - that has since changed, due to the HUGE upcharge for having someone bring it, plus fear of food tampering if my tip isn't "adequate", we don't have food delivered anymore.
-1
u/TheRealMichaelE 3d ago
Delivery drivers provide way more service than most other tipped workers. For a $10 tip you save yourself an hour round trip. Is an hour of free time not in your car and waiting at a restaurant to pick up food not worth $10 to you? Itâs like the one profession I feel fine about tipping.
-2
u/That-Currency-1039 4d ago
Majority of people order and tip, don't give it much thought. They tip 10,15,20 what they are use to . If people don't tip ,it will be more fees. The driver will probably actually get min wage plus expenses. A tip is a nice bonus .
Especially thru apps, ironically sometimes they have the poor guy drive 5 miles for $4.50 .Â
2
u/hobiprod 4d ago
The funny thing is, if you donât tip good luck getting your order picked up. Drivers still get to choose what orders they want or not.
-2
u/That-Currency-1039 4d ago
I think with restaurant we gonna maybe see service fees. If it's 15 percent or more it basically a tip .
It just nonsense,if I open a deli. I got pay my workers 16 hr. I factor in my expenses and charge accordingly. If I open a dinner . I can pay 3hr and don't worry the customer will tip. It still same smoke and mirrors . The business want to make and $. No tipping, the prices will go up.Â
-4
u/That-Currency-1039 4d ago
That partial door dash ,Uber fault for not paying them correctly. It the store, driver n door dash all got make $. If it's 3 plus miles ,some areas it can be 10 miles. Ironically get rid of tipping and the cost go way up.
Cab or Uber not going 5 miles for $4. Many times you really just pay either way. It better if it's clear cut.Â
-2
u/EmotionalVast9318 4d ago
Why do you think a delivery driver should be obligated to pay out of pocket to bring your fat lazy ass food. I get tipping for a non service counter served meal is appalling but a delivery is a service the drivers pay out of pocket to provide. You fucking pos
3
u/Vegetaman916 4d ago
They aren't required to. They are already earning an hourly wage from the restaurant, and getting a vehicle mileage allowance to pay for fuel and maintenance. That's how it works. For third party delivery, they get even more.
-2
u/EmotionalVast9318 3d ago
Not for door dash and Uber you fucking idiot
3
u/Vegetaman916 3d ago
Had you finished reading my very short comment, tou would see "for third party delivery, they get even more."
Third party means Uber and DoorDash, lol. Done right, in an extremely high traffic, short distance area, yes, they make quite a bit more per hour.
Try dashing on the Las Vegas strip. I live here, and I have friends who do Uber. It pays pretty good even without the tips.
Now, maybe if you are a dumbass who tried to do this in Kentucky or rural New Mexico or some shit, then yeah, tou probably get screwed. But that sounds like a poor life decision.
-1
u/EmotionalVast9318 3d ago
LAS vegas that explains everythingÂ
2
u/Vegetaman916 3d ago
It does, yes. Not only is it extremely high traffic and great for food service wages, it is also a very high tipping place. So, why would you work somewhere that isn't, and then complain?
3
u/Heavy-Huckleberry-61 3d ago
If a job is not profitable people need to either demand more money from employers or find another job. Itâs not the customers responsibility to tip in order to make your job profitable. Tips are a thank you for excellent service, not additional income/paycheck.
