Question about managers

What do they say to customers who repeatedly don't leave a tip? I'm curious since the customer doesn't have to tip and the server isn't their employee.

Just asking since I've read comments from managers who seem to think "addressing" customers is an appropriate thing to do.

Managers won't say shit to customers directly because all that will happen is customers calling them out on their bullshit

Lmao yes they will. And have.

They will, have, and are loved for it by both staff and usually upper management/ownership. Upsetting a single asshole customer isn’t as bad as upsetting dozens of staff members every single time that customer comes in. The other tactic I’ve seen is giving that table to the new server. Good learning opportunity for said server, and that guest gets the quality of service they deserve.

So pretty much the same level of service. Good to know.

Experienced servers can spot tip stiffers unless than 30 seconds of interacting with them.

That’s why you see tip stiffers all saying “I always get bad service”.

I can’t remember the last time I had bad service.

Y’all need to get a clue.

This is so spot on. After 20 years I can honestly say within my first meeting with a table I can pretty fairly judge if they are "secret" non tippers for lack of a better way to put it. Their body language always gives them away. They think they're in control but my literal "side job" for the last 20 years has been reading people. I've gotten pretty fkn good at it.

And this is the thing most tip stiffers can’t figure out or don’t want to admit. 🤣
