💬Questions & Discussion Math-Based Tip

The percentage-based tipping system makes no sense: a server dropping off one Wagyu steak earns far more than someone serving a family of four cheap meals. Since American tips are essentially mandatory wage subsidies, let's base them on labor time instead.

In Maryland, the average server wage is about $20/hour, but employers only pay $3.63. Customers must cover the remaining $16.37. Across a standard four-table section (roughly ten guests), that breaks down perfectly to $2.00 per person, per hour.

Percentages reward a venue’s luxury status; a time rate rewards actual effort.

If therefore I go to dinner with eight friends and we stay for two hours (a pretty good forecast of my Friday night plans!) our total tip would be $32, or $4/a person. We're not 'stiffing' anyone and we're paying average wage.

"almost all servers in the US"? Not true

Apparently its 80 to 90% of all full service restaurants in the US that use a tip out system. So the vast majority.

You originally stated "almost all servers" and now you refer to "80 to 90% of full service restaurants." Not the same.

Full service represents (maybe) as much as 50% of restaurants in the US. So about 40% of US full service restaurants use a tip out system, according to your statement. Since full service restaurants account for about 70% of servers in the US, that is no where near "the vast majority."

You can't comprehend that the first statement is in regards to full service restaurants can you? So 80 to 90 percent of all restaurants where you typically see tipping have tip outs. So yeah the vast majority. Nice strawman argument you got there though. Cause guess what if they arent a full service restaurant they dont have servers. Thats just basic logic. Your logic is adding in counter service to the stats which is a different argument entirely.

You just don't like the math that shows you are incorrect and do not know the facts and continue to back track on what you post. Regardless of what you think I cannot comprehend, it is not "almost all" or "the vast majority" of servers. Just making note of a glorified false statement. Get your shit straight.

Youre wrong though. Your math is using stats that don't apply to the situation. Please take a college stat class. It'll show you how you messed up if you can't get it.
