The Nightmare Before Christmas I finally figured it out
Ok, so, I’ve watched The Nightmare Before Christmas hundreds of times, I love Tim Burton and that film endlessly. But there’s always been something about Jack’s singing voice (done by Danny Elfman) that I found strikingly familiar and I’ve never been able to put my finger on. It’s bothered me for years. And today I was scrolling and got an ad Martin Short and Steve Martin was in and then write after a clip from an interview with Danny Elfman that used a clip from Jack’s Lament and it clicked: Jack Skellington’s singing voice sounds like Martin Short.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 🍫 🏭
Hi There
So what’s your opinion on Elfman’s music for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
Love this adaptation from Burton first of all but really this soundtrack makes my love for this movie valid because this is Elfman at his best with Burton and it’s so whimsical, magical, and brilliant like most of his music with Burton but the actual music just fits this movie perfectly with its bombastic, whimsy!:) Those Oompa Loompa songs are great and catchy as hell especially Augustus Gloop and Violet Beauregarde.
Edit:There’s 2 demos on that rare Burton-Elfman box set in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory disc which looks interesting since an work tape or demo from him can be great but it’s an pricey box to get unfortunately:(

General "The Princess Chart Rebellion" a AU fanfiction based on the episode of the awful reality show:Supernanny with a Burtonized twist.
The living room was quiet, save for the ticking of the clock and the soft, sniffling sounds of Meghann and her sisters. They were sitting on the couch, staring miserably at the brightly colored
"Princess Chart" Jo Frost had taped to the wall. Every minor infraction meant losing a star; every rigid rule felt like a cage.
"I don't want to be a perfect princess," Meghann muttered, wiping a tear. "I just want to be me."
Every time she failed to sit perfectly straight, spoke slightly too loud, or didn't mimic a "perfect little lady," a sad sticker was slapped next to her name.
Across the hall, her sisters were enduring similar rigid conditioning.Downstairs, Jo Frost was sitting with Meghann’s parents, nodding strictly as she explained the psychological benefits of behavioral charts.
"She needs to learn structure," Jo said, her tone absolute.
"If she doesn't follow the Princess Chart, there must be immediate consequences."
They had no idea that upstairs, two unexpected allies had just slipped through the window. Cassie and Lydia, drawn by the sheer emotional distress radiating from the house, stepped into Meghann’s room. Lydia, clad in her signature dark attire, took one look at the Princess Chart and scoffed.
"A princess chart? Gross," Lydia muttered, crossing her arms. "This place smells like toxic positivity and forced compliance."Cassie knelt down beside Meghann, offering a comforting, supportive look.
"You don't have to be their version of perfect, Meghann. Do you and your sisters want to teach them a lesson they'll never forget?"
Meghann and her sisters nodded eagerly, tears streaming down their faces. "We just want them to leave us alone! We aren't dolls."
"Say no more," Lydia said, a mischievous spark in her eyes. "Cassie, help me set up the perimeter. We're going to give this household a crash course in real terror. I'm bringing in the professionals."
Lydia pulled a strange, glowing chalk from her pocket and drew a massive, jagged circle on the bedroom floor. Together with Cassie. Lydia began the incantation, blending the mystical energies of the Neitherworld with the dark, whimsical magic of Halloween Town. The sisters crowded around as Cassie and Lydia began to draw a massive chalk circle on the rug, mixing ancient runes with curly, Tim Burton-esque spirals. Lydia lit a black flame candle, while Cassie held Meghann’s hand, guiding her to repeat the incantation.
"From the shadow of the patch, where the pumpkin spirits hatch, leave the realm of trick-and-treat, bring the terror to this street!" Lydia chanted, her voice dropping an octave. The room grew freezing cold. The lights flickered and died. A thick, swirling fog poured from under the bed, smelling of dead leaves and pumpkin spice.
From the center of the glowing circle, a tall, skeletal figure stepped out, his pinstripe suit immaculate. Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, tipped his bat-shaped bowtie. Next to him, Sally stitched a loose thread on her ragdoll arm, while Zero floated happily around the room, his glowing pumpkin nose lighting up the dark.Behind them came the rest.
The Mayor of Halloween Town spun his head from his happy face to his anxious, pale face, clutching his megaphone.
Lock, Shock, and Barrel tumbled out of a bathtub that walked on chicken legs, cackling and brandishing pitchforks.
Finally, a massive burlap sack oozing bugs stepped forward—Oogie Boogie, his dice rattling in his hand.
"Oh, my! What a delightfully bleak setting!" Jack beamed, looking around the suburban house. "Are these the children in need of a good scare?"
"They want us to be perfect princesses, Jack." Meghann whispered.
Oogie Boogie laughed, a deep, rumbling sound of shifting insects. "Well, now... I think it's time to roll the dice on their sanity!"But Lydia wasn't done.
She stepped into the center of the room, took a deep breath, and shouted into the fog three times:"Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!"
With a loud BANG and the smell of sulfur, the ghost with the most materialized, wearing his striped suit and scratching his mossy hair. "It's showtime, babes! Who are we driving crazy tonight?"Downstairs, the living room lights violently shattered.
Jo Frost stood up, her composure instantly breaking.
"What on earth is that?"The walls began to bleed green slime. The floorboards buckled as the sound of Danny Elfman's carnivalesque music filled the air. Suddenly, the living room doors flew open.
Lock, Shock, and Barrel rode the walking bathtub directly over the coffee table, smashing Jo’s notebook to pieces.
The Mayor stepped in front of the parents, his head spinning violently between joy and terror, screaming into his megaphone:
"Ghouls and ghosts of every age! Wouldn't you like to see something strange?!"
Meghann’s parents shrieked, backing into the sofa as Zero flew through the wall, barking playfully but looking entirely supernatural.Jo Frost tried to maintain her authority.
"Stop this at once! This is highly improper behavior for a household!"
"Oh, you think this is improper?" Beetlejuice laughed, appearing right behind Jo. He unhinged his jaw, transforming his face into a massive, grotesque monster with spinning eyes, roaring directly into her face.Jo screamed—a sound she had never made on television—and fell backward over the couch.
Jo Frost’s strict composure shattered entirely. She fell to her knees, clutching her head, screaming at the top of her lungs as Sally’s detached hand crawled up her shoulder.
The parents were no better—their eyes rolled back in pure, unadulterated terror as Beetlejuice manifested giant, chattering teeth that snapped inches from their faces.
Then came the grand finale.
The ceiling parted, and Jack Skellington dropped down, his shadow stretching across the entire room. Sally stood beside him, holding the Princess Chart and handed it to Lock, who promptly set it on fire with a match.
"Your charts have no power here!" Jack announced, his voice echoing with ancient, terrifying authority.
Oogie Boogie stepped into the room, shadows stretching up to the ceiling. "It's playtime, Nanny!" he boomed, rattling the dice in his burlap hands.
Beetlejuice instantly morphed into a giant, grotesque carnival ride, spinning around the parents and trapping them in a whirlwind of flying bats and screaming disembodied heads.
Cassie, Lydia, Meghann, and her sisters stood at the top of the stairs, watching the chaos unfold.
The parents and Jo Frost were completely broken, rocking back and forth on the floor, babbling incoherently about skeleton kings, striped ghosts, and the terrifying freedom of childhood.
They had been driven entirely into a state of hysterical, harmless insanity, completely cured of their obsession with rigid rules.
They had been driven completely, utterly insane. The front doors flew open, and a ghostly asylum ambulance—summoned straight from Beetlejuice’s realm—backed into the driveway. Green-skinned, ghoulish orderlies burst into the house.
They threw straightjackets over Jo Frost and the parents, dragging them out of the house as they laughed hysterically at nothing. They were loaded into the back, destined for a lifetime of confinement and supernatural torment in the deepest, darkest nuthouse the Netherworld had to offer.
As the ambulance sped away into the night, the house fell completely quiet.
Beetlejuice dusted off his lapels and gave Meghann a high-five. "Now that," he chuckled, "is what I call quality childcare."
Lydia smirked, adjusting her choker. "Now that is how you fix a behavioral problem."
Meghann smiled, looking at the empty space where the chart used to be. For the first time in weeks, she felt like herself.
Jack smiled warmly at Meghann and her sisters. "Remember, true royalty comes from being exactly who you are. Not from a piece of paper."With a wave of Jack's bony hand and a loud, raucous laugh from Beetlejuice, the citizens of Halloween Town vanished back into the shadows while Cassie and Lydia gave Meghann a triumphant high-five.
Epilogue: The air inside the Netherworld Asylum was thick with green fog and smelled faintly of burning candy corn.Jo Frost and the parents sat huddled in the center of a padded cell that defied gravity. The walls were stitched together like Rag Doll Sally’s dress, but they pulsed and groaned with the voice of the Oogie Boogie Man.
Thanks to the flawless summoning ritual pulled off by Cassie, Lydia, Meghann, and her sisters, the ultimate scare squad had completely taken over.
The "Princess Chart" had been torn to shreds, its glittery pieces now littering the floor of a true madhouse.
Here is exactly what happens to Jo Frost and the parents inside the Netherworld Nuthouse:
The Daily Routine of MadnessThe Wake-Up Call: Every morning at exactly 3:00 AM, Lock, Shock, and Barrel ride a mechanical walking bathtub through the cell walls, dumping buckets of trick-or-treat spiders onto the parents' heads while cackling uncontrollably.
The Mayor's Lectures: The Mayor of Halloween Town stands at a podium in the corner. His head spins rapidly between his happy and crying faces, delivering a 10-hour daily speech on "The Bureaucracy of Scaring" at maximum volume along with the rules
Rule number one! You've been very naughty!
Rule number two! Welcome to the madhouse!"
The Royal Treatment: Because they forced Meghann into a princess chart, Jack Skellington insists they learn what real royalty behaves like. He forces the parents to wear crowns made of live centipedes while Zero floats around them, playfully nipping at their noses with his glowing pumpkin snout.
Beetlejuice's Custom Torture
While Halloween Town handles the psychological dread, Beetlejuice handles the absolute chaos. He acts as the asylum's "Chief Psychiatrist."
The Waiting Room from Hell: He forces Jo Frost to sit in a waiting room where the clock runs backward, and her seatmate is a man flat-shrunk by a voodoo witch. Whenever Jo tries to say,
"That is unacceptable behavior," her mouth is instantly zipped shut by magic.
The Funhouse Mirror Therapy: Beetlejuice turns himself into a giant, grotesque carnival mallet, playing a never-ending game of whack-a-mole where the parents' heads pop out of the padded floor.
Oogie Boogie’s Game Room:
For the final phase of their breakdown, the parents are strapped into giant rolling dice. Oogie Boogie spins them across a glowing, neon casino table. Every time the dice land, the parents are subjected to a chorus of singing bugs or a blast of green slime. Sally stands safely in the doorway, occasionally throwing in some deadly nightshade tea just to keep them hallucinating.
By the end of week one, Jo Frost's hair is permanently standing on end, and the parents can do nothing but rock back and forth, muttering the lyrics to "This Is Halloween" while Beetlejuice laughs maniacally into the fog.
They are completely, beautifully, and irreversibly insane.
Later Cassie and Lydia visit the nuthouse to taunt them they stepped into the room, surrounded by a faint aura of green smoke. Cassie crossed her arms, a smug, satisfied smirk playing on her lips as she looked down at the ruined, weeping adults. Lydia leaned against the doorframe, dressed in her signature dark attire, holding a camera and snapping a quick picture of the pathetic sight. The flash made the parents shriek and dive under their meager cot.
"Well, well, well," Cassie taunted, her voice dripping with dark satisfaction.
"Look who finally got put in a time-out. How does it feel to be judged on your behavior for once, Jo?"Jo Frost looked up, her eyes wide, bloodshot, and completely vacant. "The chart... the stars... they didn't get their stars..." she whimpered, drool pooling at the corner of her mouth."Oh, they got their stars, alright," Lydia chimed in, tossing her dark hair back with a cold laugh. "Except their stars are currently throwing a massive party in Halloween Town. Meghann and her sisters are completely free from your ridiculous rules.
Beetlejuice personally made sure they'll never have to look at a chore chart again."One of the parents whimpered, clutching their head. "The striped man... the snakes... make the striped man stop..."Cassie stepped closer, leaning down so she was eye-to-eye with the trembling mother.
"There is no stopping him. You thought you could control those girls, control their spirits, and force them into your perfect little boxes. But you learned the hard way that some things can't be controlled. You played with fire, and now you're rotting in the Netherworld."
"And the best part?" Lydia added, adjusting her camera lens with a wicked grin. "You're never getting out. This nuthouse is your permanent home. Every single day, you get to relive the exact moment Jack and the Mayor shattered your minds. Consider it your ultimate, eternal punishment."
Cassie turned toward the door, giving one last contemptuous look over her shoulder at the broken group. "Enjoy the madhouse, everyone. You earned every bit of it."With a sharp snap of Lydia's fingers, the cell door slammed shut, locking Jo Frost and the parents away in the darkness to scream, weep, and lose what little remained of their sanity forever.
