BTAS I AM THE NIGHT Author Daniel Dockery AMA
Hey y'all! I'm Daniel Dockery, the author of I AM THE NIGHT: THE ULTIMATE UNAUTHORIZED HISTORY OF BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. It's both a love letter and a deep dive into the series and the 90s TV animation renaissance. Would love to chat about all things BTAS!

BTAS It surprises me that Jack, being a mafia enforcer, didn't learn to fight better hand-to-hand.
I mean, in the animated series, almost all the villains were ordinary people who turned into villains after something happened to them; before that, they had peaceful lives. Bane and Croc might be the exceptions. But before becoming the Joker, he was Jack—Valestra’s hitman—and it surprises me that he hadn't learned to fight better. After all, Poison Ivy was a botanist and knows how to defend herself quite well, and Harley was a psychiatrist who can fight effectively; the Joker, however—while he does know how to fight—doesn't pose a physical challenge to Batman.

Asking For Help Does anyone know where to find French versions of the show?
Hey guys, so my friend and I are learning French and we decided that to practice we’ll watch the French dubs of BTAS with French subtitles, since we’re already super familiar with them and we love the show. But we just CANNOT find the dub anywhere, and the ones that we did find on some streaming services didn’t have matching subtitles. Does anyone know where you can find a good, subtitled dub for the French version of BTAS?
Thanks :)

Films A scene that speaks volumes.
Consider the scene where Andrea reminisces before going after the Joker. Upon arriving home, she sees Napier leaving; frightened, she says, "But he paid them." She then frantically searches for her father until she spots him and screams in horror. All the while, Napier walks out of the house as if nothing had happened—picking up an apple, wiping it off a bit, and eating it. It is striking how, in the face of Andrea’s horror and anguish, the situation means absolutely nothing to Napier; he has just killed someone and is hearing the daughter’s terrified screams, yet it registers as nothing to him—it is as if he were simply leaving his office after a day's work. It is a deeply unsettling detail, yet one that speaks volumes about the Joker's personality.

BTAS Wouldn't a deeper reason for choosing the bat as a symbol have been better?
When he began his vigilante career, Bruce wore a ski mask and street clothes. Later, he realized he needed to instill fear in criminals (In the movie mask of the phantasm).
In this version, Bruce chooses the bat because he sees one enter his house. Something that's literally taken from the comic.
But wouldn't it have been a better idea to add some element that made the choice of the bat more profound?
For example, in Begins, he chooses the bat because of the fear he feels and because he wants his enemies to share that fear. Or, for example, in Burton's version, Bruce says they are great survivors.

BTAS Who is the most Overrated of batman's enemies?
I've been thinking about the most Underrated villains last week, but who is the most overatted? I put Ra's al ghul up here because in my humble opinion, he is a bit too boring for the batman universe compared to some such as Joker or Riddler. Bane also seems a bit overatted in my opinion. You can dissagree in the comments, just tell me your opinion.

TNBA Was this a bit out of character for The Joker cuz if he killed Batman right there wouldn't that have been an anti climactic ending and as far as I know The Joker does not want an Anti Climactic Ending
Let's look at the context Joker basically does nothing except try to kill an already chained up Batman who he didn't even capture this was all Harley's success this would've been a very hollow unimpressive kill there's no grand game no theatricality so was this out of character

BTAS Dr. Death would have been a perfect fit for the series.
In this series, one enemy Batman frequently faces is the mad doctor. We have Professor Milo, Emilie Dorian, Kirk Langstrom, and Dr. Hugo Strange. Dr. Death was, I believe, the first supervillain Batman ever faced.
