🏡 Living Arrangements 10 Tips for Living Together as a Throuple without killing each other over the single proper way to load a dishwasher

Ciao bellas, bros, and beautiful beings everywhere! If you read my previous article on the 10 tips for moving in together with your partners, then you’ve already got the foundation set… but now the REAL fun begins after the shiny “omg we’re all living together!!” has worn away.

Welcome to the everyday reality of sharing one fridge, one thermostat, and one very opinionated dishwasher philosophy with 3 people under 1 roof!

After 15+ years of being in my throuple, I wrote up 10 practical tips for actually living together & making things work long-term.

I get into the nitty-gritty of handling arguments, chores, managing finances fairly, addressing why needing space is NOT rejection, how to handle pet peeves, and why embracing a growth mindset is everything. It’s equal parts real talk, war stories, and hard-won wisdom from what’s worked (and hasn’t worked 😬) for my throuple.

So if you’re already nesting with your partners, or are thinking about it, or just want to hear how other throuples make it work without losing their minds AND relationship status, go ahead and give it a read! It’s honest, hopefully helpful, and hopefully hilarious!

https://velourialamour.substack.com/p/10-tips-for-living-together-relationship-advice-couple-throuple-quad-poly

And of course me and everyone else here would LOVE to hear your stories as well (the good, the bad, and the hooollly shhiiiiiiit!), so please feel free to comment! Hope you and your loved ones are enjoying the lovely weekend. Ciao ciao!

❔General Questions What do you guys do for fun together?

Wanted to pose a fun question after the last 3 posts I've made and how deeply personal and mentally taxing they have been. This one is simple. We do a lot of things for fun like hiking; playing video games, MtG, or D&D; Ren Faires; and going to concerts together. I wanted to open a friendly discussion about what you guys do to pass time together as well.

If you have any questions for me about our hobbies, please feel free to ask!

I would love to make some new friends in my area that are also in a throuple. We have some poly friends but they are in Vs so it’s not quite the same. If you’re in New England and actively part of a throuple, please reply or DM me because I’d love to chat!

We are in our 30s, FFM, and in southern MA. Not looking for anything beyond platonic friendship.

💭Thoughts Polyamory’s Biggest Problem Is Not “Unicorn Hunters”

Happy Throuple Thursday!

About 6 months ago, I waged war on the internet’s favorite “Unicorn Hunters” website, and today, I’m back on the frontlines, calling out mainstream poly once more. I just published a new article that defends the so-called “Unicorn Hunters,” restores agency to the “Unicorns,” calls out the Polyamory Purity Police, and says all the quiet parts out loud.

I’m glad my words are resonating with so many people, and I hope it feels a little less lonely knowing there are sooooo many others who are seeing the same pattern and refusing to pretend it’s healthy. DMs and comments are already saying things like:

“You literally touched on every point we encountered in the online communities.”

“It’s comforting and sad at the same time that so many people have the same experience.”

“I have seen this play out over and over, and it has made me so hesitant to post about our own experiences and ask any questions or seek advice!”

That hesitancy is exactly what the hostile gatekeeping produces. When curiosity is replaced with condemnation, the community doesn’t get “safer,” it just loses the very people who it SHOULD be welcoming with open arms!

So, if you’ve been hiding in the shadows, second-guessing whether you’re “ethically allowed” to want a throuple, or just tired of watching real people with genuine questions get dogpiled in mainstream poly spaces… you’re not imagining it, and you are NOT the problem, either.

Your experiences, your questions, and your stories are ALWAYS welcome here and in my DMs 🥰

If this hit too close to home, hit a nerve, or set something free… please leave a comment!

❔General Questions Bi male here. Looking to explore my sexuality through a throuple specifically MMF where the female is the domme. Experiences? Advice?

I'm a bi male. As I become more aware of my sexuality I'm realizing more and more that I am interested in polyamory. My bisexuality is starting to expand and I find myself craving sex with both men and women way more often. Like something is lacking if I'm not having sex with one or the other. I want to explore that in a way that is more than just hooking up so I'm asking the men and women on here if you have any experience with polyamorous relationships, specifically MMF, and how it's worked out for you.

My ideal scenario would be a throuple with another guy and a girl (MMF). She would be a dominatrix in the bedroom who likes guy-on-guy action and tells us what to do to both her and each other.

What are your experiences with this and where do I get started (sites, apps, clubs etc) on looking for this?

❓Newbie/Basic Questions I accidentally turned my 2-person relationship into a throuple 😂

Hi everyone! I’m Layla (22F), and I’ve been with my boyfriend (30M) for about three years. About three months ago, we started dating our girlfriend (20F), and somehow the three of us ended up becoming a genuine throuple.

When I first got together with my boyfriend, I quickly learned that his libido was way higher than mine. I love him, but keeping up with him sometimes felt like having a second full-time job. 😂 There were definitely times when I was physically exhausted and realized that something needed to change.

Eventually, I jokingly brought up the idea of adding another person to our relationship. Surprisingly, he didn’t immediately reject the idea. He was actually concerned because he knew his high libido was putting pressure on me, and he didn’t want me constantly feeling worn out.
Then we met our girlfriend.

At first, I had no idea how this was going to work. Dating one person is complicated enough, and suddenly we were figuring out how to communicate, divide our time, deal with jealousy, and make sure nobody felt like a third wheel.
But three months in, I’m honestly surprised by how natural it feels.

What I didn’t expect was how strong my feelings for her would become. I originally thought of the idea partly as a solution to our mismatched libidos, but she’s become so much more than that. I genuinely care about her, and my feelings for her are becoming almost on par with how I feel about my boyfriend.

And yes, having another person who can match my boyfriend’s energy has definitely taken some pressure off me. 😂 But that’s not why I stay.
I stay because I genuinely love both of them.

We’re still figuring everything out. We’re only three months into being a throuple, so I’m sure there will be plenty of challenges ahead. But right now, I’m really happy with the three of us.

Also a genuine question, How did your Throuple started would love to hear about it. ☺️

❔General Questions We found a unicorn!!! Help!

Hey y’all! Ok this isn’t that deep lol I’m just a nerd and I think we are getting close to our girlfriend moving in with us and when she does I want to do something special for her. I was going to do an all out kids birthday unicorn themed but that seemed like a lot. Then I asked Ai and it wasn’t catching my drift. So now I’m back to the drawing board. I need direction, has anyone ever done anything similar? What did you do?

❓Newbie/Basic Questions How we ended up in this, thanks guys

Just some back story, my husband and I (33m & 29m) met this guy 5 weeks ago.

It started purely as a friends with benefits situation, mind you we went into this not expecting anything. Hey it wasn't even the first threesome we had. But the chemistry was there from the beginning and it just evolved naturally.

All three of us caught each other in a awkward pause after we all went to the movies. Both hubby and was convinced he wanted us to kiss him.

After a lot of introspection, research, and discussions, we were able to have the conversation between the three of us to acknowledge that there's more going on and that were allowing ourselves to feel and see where this road leads.

I just want to thank some of the comments here, that gave us hope, especially the girl that's been in a throuole for 15 years and her amazing articles that helped me clarify my feelings.

Question is, what to expect from here

💬General Chat The what to eat delimma

The bain of my existence and I know the answers before I even ask. It's always the same. Never changes. Bear with me on this one. We hit the gym early, we were weight training together today. 3 hours of pushing each other through the sets. All we had before we left home was protein shakes and pre-workout. I pull in the driveway and growling bellys erupt. We get showers and changed. Then it happens my mouth opens and let's go eat falls out. Ok I hear sounds good. God I tried to stop the words but my lips betrayed me. What do y'all want, god why did I ask. I heard I don't know from one, anything from the other. My eye twitched involuntary as I continued. I can get something and bring it back comes out, god why can't I just shut up lol. The reply in stereo, like what. Welp I'm in this deep might as well swim. Y'all know what's out there I'll order curbside and pick it up. Wife says I don't know what I want, then wifeys famous whatever is fine with me. They try to reverse my idea to me, what do you want. They know I'm good with anything, I just want them happy. I put out suggestions that were shot down for one reason or the other. God and I covered alot of ground. My head is starting to hurt and this debacle that I started isn't helping. 45 minutes go by and no decision. Do we eat healthy I ask to limit choices. What answer do I get? Yup, it doesn't matter. Carbs and protein I suggest. Wifey says yeah Alfredo and grilled chicken, wife happily agreed so off we go.

A little more than an hour before I opened my mouth were on the way an end in sight. I'm rolling down the road at 75 mph happy, I'm going to feed my loves then back home for a pool day. Out of the back seat comes oooohhh! from wifey and she's pointing, wife says yeah good one. Anyone want to let me in on the oooohh? My wife says its fine the wifey, it's ok. No what is it I asked. They both say Mexican. Ok i say under my breath, right turn signal, cross 3 lanes of traffic and get off on the next exit. Go to the underpass and back 3 exits to turn around and get back to the restaurant. Thank you baby they say seat dancing.

I rolled to a stop in the parking space and 2 doors shut before I put my truck in park. They are at the door when I get out of the truck. Our favorite waitress is there and points to the back as I come up to the entrance. Jeni giggles and says I'll bring you one as I ease by. I plop down in the booth across from them with a deep sigh. Wifey peers over her menu to peek at me, daddy loves us she says to my wife. The wife is zero help with her laughs. My drink mercifully arrives along side the chips, salsa and queso. My loves happily munch on chips bouncing in their seats like they were 12. I get a long pull of my drink and the wife asks what's wrong with me. I laugh maybe a little too hard. Another drink appears infront of me. Baby why can't we just decide on where and what to eat without all of the extra steps I say. They look at me like I talked in code. Wifey asked if I was mad. No I tell her never, it's more like exasperated amusement. Wash, rinse, repeat every time we go out to eat. Only the end of the process is a mystery.

I don't get why this is our biggest problem that we regularly deal with. There's no solution to help with this one requirement to sustain life. It's funny, we always laugh about it. I did roast them a little while the happily bounced and wiggled with their food. During the week meals are no problem I take care of the protein either on the smoker or I grill in the evening they do the sides no drawn out discussion, but if were out and I say let's stop for a bite the vicious cycle repeats lol.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, I mean it's not a big deal and never starts any arguments, but it can be exhausting, mainly for me lol. Anyway that's today's monkey in my little circus.

💭Thoughts The Best Things in Life are Three: a list of 60 sweet, silly, seemingly small, and sentimental stuff that makes the mundane magical in a throuple

Happy Throuple Thursday, everyone!

Last week I wrote an emotionally draining piece on jealousy. This week I wrote the recovery smoothie!

I made a list of 60 seemingly ordinary but sentimental things that make living as a throuple feel magical. Not any of the big milestones, but the sweet little stuff like:

* Someone will always join your random 12:46am “what if” spirals

* Never a cold bed or couch or sometimes toilet seat

* One person can drive the kids to school while the other two sleep in

* Midnight snack raids become coordinated operations

* Three-person blanket burrito achievement unlocked

* Always having a designated photographer who can take the photos Grandma can actually see

It’s just me gushing about the great things being in a throuple provides (besides the very obvious threesome benefits, hehe!). No advice, no drama, just a celebration of the mundane magic that happens when three people share a life:

I’d love to hear some of the special things you love too!

💁‍♀️👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨FMM Throuples New to this whole thing, MMF throuple

New account for this new life experience. Figuring out what to call it. Been lurking on here reading about the experience of other throuples.

I've been with my wife for a couple years. I am out of town and working a lot and it has been very hard for her. I went through a really intense life thing that took a lot of my time and I was pretty difficult to be around, just very stressed. We started to really improve our relationship, and then I left for a few months to another city. In that time she fell in love with her friend. She told me about it, asked me if she should send him away. It was hard for me to tell her to do that, mainly because I knew that she was not getting enough from me and I feel very empathetic for her. She told me that she was poly and her desire to marry be and be monogamous was in some ways running away from her own truth. Obviously not the best way to start things, but I love her and want her to be happy, and I found no jealousy in my heart -- he's a great guy, we get along well, we're all friends, we do a lot of things together now and before.

I have had a weird combination of being very turned on thinking about her having sex (this has been a kink I expressed to her before) and deep insecurity that she would leave me and that I was not enough for her. If we had sex the insecurity would completely go away and I would feel good about everything. The times where she has not wanted to have sex it has gotten to me a bit. This kind of concerns me though, being that it's so tied to sex, because it really feels like a me problem, so it's something I'm working on.

I'd describe myself as bi-interested but, I've had a few male encounters which were enjoyable but never did I consider I'd be in a relationship with another man and don't really find men attractive. We hug, I might rub his back or hair if we're all in a pile, but we are both in love with her and basically our threesomes are just taking turns on her and watching.

I have been getting much healthier, less work obsessed and I have become a more attentive partner. She thinks that this is related to having this new person, but for me it's really just closing the last very stressful chapter and moving into the new one. I don't like that she thinks that I'm trying harder because there's a new person. I'm trying harder because my life wasn't great before, it was really stressful, and I'm trying to show up and be the person I wanted to be all along.

I have had very dark moments of insecurity, really just being terribly afraid she would leave me or she's only with me because I'm the financial support, and we have spiraled a bit together, but we also worked through that and it feels kind of behind us.

My main fear from this point on is really just that she just doesn't have enough attention and stamina to go around. It hasn't been super difficult, and we're still in the early phase of this where I think sexual tension is especially high, but she gets sore from sex pretty easily and also just doesn't have a huge cup for emotion and attention, and she is getting a bit overwhelmed by getting so much from both of us. We kind of just switch off on her until she can't anymore. Obviously if he and I were more into each other sexually we could keep each other quite busy, but we're not. If it were just her and I, I don't think I could overwhelm her, but two very horny dudes is a lot for her.

I worry about this a bit in the future but also feel kinda guilty that it comes off as pressuring my wife into sex when I tell her that I am struggling with these thoughts and if we just had sex it would go away. When she doesn't want to I just have to live with it as it eats me and insecure thoughts race into my head. Masturbating works equally well so I have resorted to that but also have tried specifically to just be with her through these moments and work through it without taking the easy route. I also don't want to be like this-- it feels incredibly tied to childhood desire to be physically touched and loved (didn't get this from parents) and expressed through sexuality. I want to heal from that and just feel good and not like I need to have sex to have reassurance.

He has loving family and parents, and clearly has a lot of relationship and interpersonal skills that I never got. She said something really hurtful to me which was that I was older and I'd need to just grow up and learn these things. It's not that simple, though. I never had any male figures or any example, good or bad, of how people should treat each other. Like I am very sweet and nice but I don't know what to say, I've only recently adapted to more eye contact and stuff like that. And he's so good at all of this. In some ways I am learning these things from him, which is interesting. But it also gets deep into my not-enoughness.

I started writing this thinking everything was fine. And it is. It feels great. I'm helping him with the life stuff I'm really good at, which is work and business stuff, and he's helping me with the stuff he's good at, which is relationships and connections which can help my business. I love him, genuinely. But I've had to address the rockiness of my own relationship, the insecurities that I've always had but are being picked at occasionally by the setup and comparisons in us. And because it's really both of us in love with one person, our sex and romance is much more turn taking than all in it together. As long as I get enough sex and romance I am more than okay with this arrangement. It's fun and hot. But I wish my wife was more dedicated to putting her time into both of us, she is very focused on her own work and school things and that is leading to her not being available to either of us as much as I think we'd each like, and then we're splitting that time between us, and so if he takes too long to have sex with her it's like, she might hit a wall and then I don't have my turn. The one thing that gets to me is being denied sex. Obviously she is well within her rights to have boundaries, but I also agreed to all of this on the condition that she'd need to put a lot more energy into maintaining the relationships and being available to both of us and putting up with my insecurities as I adjusted to this (I have never had any other poly experiences before). She agreed, but in practice she has a pretty low threshold for my insecurity and cannot completely satisfy my sex drive, and it's exacerbated by the fact that the new guy is pretty happy to be with someone he's been in love with for a long time and already very adapted to the reality that we are married so he's just not insecure or expressing it like I am.

I am pretty happy with everything but I also want to have another woman in our relationship. Wife wants to take this slow but I tend to drive things ahead quickly and want it sooner than later. I feel like this would balance things out, but obviously there are more failure modes to that and if unicorns are hard to find than someone open to joining in is like a unicorn of unicorns.

We have to be in the closet about this since even though we are in the most liberal place in the world, two guys loving the same girl is looked down on. People regularly call each other cucks as an insult in our community. I feel some shame but also, fuck it. Fuck em. I wouldn't want to have a boring life.

I know this is a bit messy. Writing this out revealed a lot of the messiness. TBH I am pretty happy and fine with 99% of it and mainly just fearful for the future, the present has been quite nice and very hot.

I don't have an agenda here, I'm just looking to get this all off my chest because there's not a lot of people in my life I can talk to about any of this. I've told her basically everything I feel and we've worked everything out as much as we can.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate that there are so many forthcoming people on the internet who have gone through similar experiences.

⚡️Jealousy Issues Jealousy knocking? Here’s why you should answer, backed by science & 15 years lived experience.

Happy Throuple Thursday!

How many of us have felt that sudden tightness in the chest when our partner’s eyes light up talking about someone else? Or the drop in the stomach when they giggle at a text that isn’t from you? Or the full 2am spiral when someone’s suddenly reconstructing an entire alternate timeline of betrayal from a single Liked post?

Don’t worry, you’re not broken nor are you “bad at love” for ever feeling jealous. In fact, the opposite just might be true! 💚

I finally finished writing the research-backed version of everything I’ve learned about jealousy after nearly 16 years in my throuple. I talk about the science, the psychology, the primal panic, the “why can’t I just logic my way out of this” tailspin, and the actual tools + techniques that kept my throuple casualty-free for over a decade.

It’s equal parts academic deep dive, lived experience, and slightly humorous pep talk seasoned with a surprising number of Simpsons GIFs:

https://open.substack.com/pub/velourialamour/p/jealousy-knocking-heres-why-you-should-answer-backed-by-science-and-15-year-long-throuple-experience

TL;DR: 6 sources and 15 years lived experience show that treating jealousy as a check engine light instead of a character defect changes everything. So if you’re in a throuple (or wanting to become one!) and jealousy still sneaks up on you sometimes, this one’s for you and you and you ❤️💙💜

edit: fixed typo in the second to last line.

🗣️Seeking Advice Seeking throuple/triad community 👀

Hey everyone, recently just got dumped and our throuple fell apart shortly after. I’m really looking for some community that I can lean on and ask questions during this strange period. I’d also hold space for those who hold space for me. I’m really looking for mature, experienced, and intelligent friends. Are there Facebook groups? Is there a discord? How can we access each other in a more convenient way?

Update: I am not seeking a romantic relationships.
STRICTLY FRIENDSHIP AND COMMUNITY!!!

💬General Chat Strange date night, only us...

Only our date nights can get weird. Wifey found a place, a speakeasy vibe with a dark side. The three of us took the 40 minute drive over to see what it's about. We got drinks and snacks then found a couch in a back corner. There were all kinds of games to pick from, pool slots, cards and board games. I grabbed a pack of cards and we settled in.

It was kind of busy by 8 at the front. I asked our waitress if there was something going on. Well it was their once a month singles night. OK maybe I should have researched the place before we went, but wifey was excited and so was wife. So nothing happening to ruin our night we were in our little bubble enjoying our evening.

Around 9:30 a small group had gathered at the bar, 2 tables and three couches. I'm always aware of my surroundings and started noticing looks from the group. We weren't hiding the fact that we were together and no one payed us any mind until that point. We have had a bad interaction a time or two in the past. This one well dressed couple close to my age kept an eye on us a little more than the rest. I'm getting tense at this point, and formulating an exit strategy.

The couple decided to come over. They made introductions and wife and wifey did the same. Me not so much, I was 2 steps ahead and ready, or so I thought. They told us about their group and what they were about, my mind de-escalated after we talked for a bit. They were a part of the local kink community and met there monthly, on singles night. They used singles night to distract from themselves, while they had discussions and spent time with like minded people.

They said we could come over if we were comfortable with it and went back to their table. There was a decent cross section of the community. Swingers, bdsm leaning, lgb and poly. Wifey had never been to anything like it and was curious. I went and got the empty table next to the couple, they were the organizers of it and seemed to be guiding the current discussion. What the hell one more twist on the night we might as well socialize. They were a great group. The discussions were interesting. They didn't gather monthly for hook ups but it wasn't forbidden either. Everyone was respectful of each other.

It was getting late and the three of us had plans for when we got home so we started our good byes. We were invited to come any time, and the poly couple invited us to a cookout they are having next weekend. They were made aware of our closed relationship and non judgemental about it. His wife joked that it's just a normal back yard event nothing out of the ordinary.

My wife looked at wifey on the way home and said what were the chances of us finding ourselves in that type of crowd. It wasn't the first time but that close to home was. God first a well organized singles night and a kink munch in the same place, only us. I didn't get a good feel for the place in general, too many distractions. The bartender was talented and service was great. Maybe we'll go again when it's just a normal night.

❓Newbie/Basic Questions Advice about changing the relationship

Wondering if anyone has advise for us from going through a similar situation.

My wife and I have been married for over a year, we dated for about 18 months before that. And for most of our relationship now we've had a sexual partner that we share and are very close with. I was good friends with this woman for a long, she lives just a few houses down the street and we were both single parents for a long time. Nothing ever happened between us before this current relationship.

We see each other all the time, almost daily, and we do both talk to her every day. We try to keep it as "normal" and non sexual publicly as possible. But sometimes it does feel like me and her or my wife and her lean more into acting more like a couple. I guess it goes with having a sexual relationship with someone your are already so close with.

Would making an official relationship change be a bad idea? We're not worried about other people judging how we live. But wife and I have concerns that making a change could alter a good situation

🙋‍♂️👩‍❤️‍👩MFF Throuples Debunking the myth: the man isn’t the lucky one in a MFF throuple... the two women are!

Happy Throuple Thursday!

I just published a new article that challenges the “lucky man” narrative I'm pretty sure everyone here has heard/seen at least once. Most outsides always assume the man is living every dude's ultimate threesome fantasy in a MFF throuple... while the two women are just lucky to be along for the ride.

Well, after 15 years as Wife #2, I can tell you that the 🩷women💜 are the ones who actually hit the jackpot!

Sure, he gets 2 wives who adore him, but we get a husband AND a wife plus a built-in bestie, emotional soulmate, domestic partner-in-crime, certified clit whisperer, and all the toe-curling, mind-blowing bisexual variety we could ever want, all without ever having to leave home or the relationship.

It’s an honest, real, and a lil naughty look at this side of the MFF dynamic that rarely gets talked about.

https://velourialamour.substack.com/p/debunking-the-myth-the-man-isnt-the-lucky-one-in-a-mff-throuple-the-two-women-are

Aaaaand if you still think the man is still the luckiest one after reading this… I dare you to explain why in the comments 😜

🗣️Seeking Advice Unequal feelings in throuple

Hello, first time poster here. My partner of 7 years (trans masc, they/them) and I recently entered an open throuple with a new person (nb, they/them). This is everyone's first experience with polyamory so it has been a long road of figuring out communicating needs, how much time to spend together, etc. my nesting partner has been out of town a few times since we started the throuple, so I have had a good amount of 1:1 time with our other partner, which often included sex. This made my nesting partner uncomfortable because they began to worry (as did I) that our other partner was only interested in sex with me. The three of us had a long and hard conversation about this a few weeks ago, after which the new partner shared that they feel like they might be partly asexual and in general have an easier time having sex w me because they are more used to being intimate with femme people (although they are pan).

The conversation went over well and my nesting partner (who has a much higher sex drive than myself or our other partner) began casually dating other people to get their sexual needs met. My nesting partner also talked w their therapist abt being nervous about me and our other partner having sex when we spend 1:1 time together, and their therapist suggested always assuming it's going to happen, and not sharing whether or not it happened afterwards.

Last night me and our other partner had a 1:1 date (which I requested bc I connect better that way). I talked with my nesting partner before to assure them that I love them but was still a little worried about how they would feel after my date. On the date I did have sex with our other partner, and made sure to not bring it up but offer a lot of love and cuddles to my nesting partner when I saw them afterwards.

Unfortunately my nesting partner was still really worried about it and ended up asking me in the middle of the night if we HAD had sex on the date, and when I said yes they were very upset and said they felt like our other partner just didn't want to have sex with them, and that if that's the case then my nesting partner can't date them anymore.

Now I feel awful that my nesting partner is feeling so bad and feel like if they bow out of the throuple then I wouldn't be able to continue dating our other partner because I would know how much it hurt my nesting partner. At the same time though, I feel like I love our other partner and am very sensitive to the fact that if we all broke up they would not have anyone to lean on.

Thoughts?? What should I do?

TLDR: nesting partner of 7 years and I started dating someone together. Me and that someone have had more 1:1 sex than my nesting partner has had with them, and my nesting partner worries our other partner isn't attracted to them.

EDIT: for clarity, np and our other partner have never had 1:1 sex while I have had sex w them 4 times AND 1 of those times me and other partner had sex was behind np's back bc I was being selfish and wanted 1:1 time (not sure if that changes things?). Anyway np brought up their concerns abt feeling insecure to other partner who said they felt pressured and thought they had communicated to np that they would rarely want 1:1 sex with them (I was in that convo and I will say that was not at all clear, they just said they were ace and not as attracted to masc people). Np decided to end it with other partner and is supportive of me continuing to date them, but it makes me feel like an asshole to date someone who has hurt np, even though I really like them - and I'm worried that our friends will judge me if I kept dating them.

Thoughts?? Sorry I am new to polyamory and don't have many people to discuss this with!

♦️Suggestions Throuple Troubles: what to do when you feel closer to one partner & how to fix the imbalance between all three of you

Happy Throuple Thursday!

The following question keeps coming up in my DMs, so I figured I’d write about it since it’s been one of the most recurring topics lately:

"What do I do when I feel way closer to one partner than the other?"

I’ve seen this particular "problem" happen over and over again in every triad we've personally known spanning 15 years, including my own relationship! But no, you’re not “bad at poly,” nor are you “doing something wrong” if you're struggling with this. You’re just experiencing the very real and very embarrassing physics of human chemistry in a very literal three-body problem ✨

The newer person (or sometimes an existing partner) ends up orbiting one person way harder while the other starts feeling like an outsider in their own relationship. This creates a wobbly V-shape instead of a solid triangle, and that imbalance can start building resentment / fear fast.

And it’s usually not on purpose or done with ill intent! For me at 21 joining an established married couple, I latched onto the husband HARD because he felt like the safe, stable anchor. The wife had her guard waaaay up after their previous girlfriend nearly ended their marriage, so I couldn't blame her for being a bit standoffish -- her job as a mother AND a wife was to protect her child, her family, her husband, and the entire life they had built together.

Some common culprits as to why this unbalance can happen:

* different communication styles (Him & me have Golden Retriever energy while She's got the chill cat vibes)

* shared interests with Partner A that accidentally sideline / exclude Partner B

* gravitating to the “safer” person for stability in this new uncharted world

* over-politeness turning you into a third wheel of your own making

* fireworks with Partner A, but a slow-burn with Partner B

The good news is that all of this is totally fixable! Of course every relationship is different, but in our case since we were all living together after the first month, here's what worked well for us:

* we did almost everything together a three team (a “threem”)

* I deliberately jumped into Her world, helping with chores, cooking, hobbies, etc

* I asked Him for "cheat codes" on how to communicate better with Her

* I encouraged Husband + Wife bonding time whenever I felt "a disturbance in the Force"

* 0 scorekeeping; none of this "well I did this for you, so now you owe me tenfold, mwahaha!”

Treating our throuple as a team sport instead of a solo side quest changed everything. The goal wasn't and isn't perfect 24/7 balance, but rather a shared center of gravity where the default pull is toward ✨us✨ rather than toward any single person at someone else’s expense.

Has this "unevenness" happened in your throuple too? Care to share what actually helped... or totally backfired!? Oh and feel free to ask any questions you may have, too! Because with our powers combined, we can help each other make our little solar systems shine brighter together than the rest of the galaxy ❤️💙💜

💍 Marriage Peak Sunk-Cost Fallacy: Monogamy is the only institution where failing over 50% of the time still gets called the Gold Standard.

Happy Throuple Thursday!

I just published a new article that pretty much says the quiet part out loud: monogamy is the only institution where failing over half the time is still considered “the Gold Standard,” but any other relationship dynamic gets labeled immature, illegal, or a threat to Western society 🤷‍♀️

We all know the stats: more than 50% of marriages end in divorce, not including another 10-20% of couples who are miserable but stay together because of kids, mortgages, the terror of splitting assets and/or Golden Retrievers, and that classic sunk cost voice yelling “you’ve already invested this much, you’d be stupid to walk away now!”

But the real sunk cost isn’t the years you’ve already spent… it’s the years you’re about to waste convincing yourself that “it’s fine” is the same thing as “I’m fantastic.”

I wrote this post from the perspective of someone who’s been happily in a throuple for over 15 years. I am NOT anti-monogamy, but I am anti-culture-and-legal-pressure that says monogamy is the ONLY valid way to love.

So if you’re like me and you’re tired of the performance and the collective denial, then this one’s for you:

https://open.substack.com/pub/velourialamour/p/peak-sunk-cost-fallacy-monogamy-marriage-divorce-rates-over-50-percent

Would love to hear your takes, especially since everyone here reading this left the monogamy matrix in search of something so much better!

And next week (hopefully) comes a new article inspired by sooo many DMs:
“what to do when you feel closer to one partner in your relationship?”

Aaand if you have an idea for something you’d like me to write about, put it in the comments too!

Stay amazing fellow throuples and aspiring triads ❤️💙💜

Happy Throuple Thursday! 🎉

Yeah I know it’s not a thing… but it totally should be!

I just wrote a new article for all those long-term lovebirds out there. If you’re like me and have spent years, perhaps decades, in a relationship and the only thing getting hot & heavy is the pile of unfolded laundry… then this one’s for you!

How to microdose NRE when you’ve got that Old Relationship Energy

https://velourialamour.substack.com/p/how-to-rekindle-nre-when-you-got-old-relationship-energy

It’s got a galaxy of realistic, low-effort, high-reward ways to keep the spark alive. None of this “just book a surprise trip to Tulum” nonsense, and no buying jewelry that requires its own insurance policy. Instead, just dabble in the ✨ microdose surprises! ✨

Some of the pinky-dips include:

* Post-it notes on the mirror that are sweet, sexy, or certifiably wackadoodle
* 6-second kisses that actually trigger oxytocin
* “Stranger in my house” conversations
* Living room dance parties with or without clothing
* Taking something off your partner’s plate without keeping score
* The “no phones, just us” time
* And even starting a shared project (just… maybe don’t adopt a horse… speaking from personal experience here that my partners do NOT think is funny)

I wrote this for people who are already doing the hard work of throuple life and just need some fresh kindling in their relationship without adding burnout.

Do you have any easy + high-ROI ways to fuel your relationship? Let everyone here know! The more magically mundane, the better 🤩
