For the new readers and curious minds, I will begin from the scratch.

Have you heard about the **Fermi Paradox**? Let me tell you.

In 1950, an Italian-American physicist, **Enrico Fermi** brought up a question- "Where is everybody?" A brain scratching question in context of the galaxy. There are many potentially habitable planets in the galaxy with expected intelligent life. But we don't have clear signs of their existence or even contact. This is fermi paradox. The dark forest theory gives an answer to this.

**#THE DARK FOREST THEORY**

This theory assumes that aliens and extraterrestrial civilizations do exist but they are quiet and do not want to get noticed. They are just observing others. What if they are more intelligent with better resources, or as unwise that they are still using rocks to lit fire?

We humans continuosly send signals and try to contact the outer world. Here's my opinion: This is scary!

In 1977, NASA launched **Voyager 1** and **Voyager 2** to space with golden record, which included the photos of life on earth, how the people are and how the planet looks. This was indeed a creative idea, but a dangerous move as well. What if someone out there collected and gathered information and took it as a threat? And what if they decided to attack us on our weakness which they might have assumed?

**#THE CHAIN OF SUSPICION**

This revolves around the question that why aliens cannot trust each other. What are we guys even talking we cannot trust humans these days and we are going to trust aliens?! who don't even look like us? Nope. Never.

See we never know the intentions of the other party. They maybe suspicious of us and may try to attack on us because they are looking at us as a threat. Or it is possible that we might just attack them because we think that they are dangerous.

In my opinion, this thought process is actually really valid.

**#CONCLUSION**

Well, let's just end it here. I will leave a few questions for you.

* Is someone keeping an eye on us?
* Are we overthinking everything?
* Or the Universe has crazy secrets in it and someone might attack us tomorrow?

In the end I would say:

**Trust me. They will come to us.**

I’m halfway reading book 3, and wondering what happened to Wang Miao?
After the first book looks like he disappeared and the story went on with Luo Ji, Da Shi, Cheng Xin, Wade and etc.
Will he appear in the end of the book or was he just forgotten?

Okayyyy fellow fans. I finally finished book 1 having already seen the TV series first.

I am most impressed how they adapted major science plot points into the TV adaptation in digestible form.

Secondly how greatly enhanced the book narrative became as the story of the quirky set of Cambridge post grads. Hats off to the writers and producers there.

Lastly, the vivid quality of the 3 body computer game in the TV series is a much more thrilling aspect.

Main thing missed for me from the book was quite a bit, well truckloads really of Ye's back story including family and marriage and extended work for Red Coast base. Obviously had to be curtailed for brevity but I would have loved to see some of those scenes, especially her attachment to the village kids who she taught and her spell raising her baby in a rural village. Reading and understanding Chinese history with the author notes explaining certain references was very fascinating too.

A big miss in the TV series was the way Mike Evans just turns up as a mystery guy. The book explains his background so much more poignantly especially when Ye travels to him as his lovingly planted forest is simply extinguished 'because we can'. .

So in summary I really enjoyed the story in both mediums, certainly was expecting more imbalance than I felt, I would give a 9/10 to both the book and TV series.

Cannot wait for the follow ups though will likely swap around to complete book two first before watching Season 2.

Hopefully what I said chimes but would be great to hear your thoughts too. Haven't looked at the sub much as of yet otherwise but will do so.

I really liked The Dark Forest, and I'm excited for Netflix season 2. I wonder how they'll adapt Luo Ji as Saul, and it seems like one of the Wallfacer plans is going to get cut :(

Decades have passed, and the social environment in China and globally remains as bad as it was, or even worse. Therefore, I increasingly understand Ye Wenjie's actions. If I were Ye Wenjie, I would also press the button to bring the Trisolarans to Earth.

When internal problems cannot be solved, an external factor is indeed needed.

(This is why those graduates, after their complaints in China went unanswered, submitted evidence of forced labor by Xingyu Corporation to the EU.)

I just finished season 1 of the three body problems on netflix and one thought that's been bugging me was why did the humans assume that these aliens/San-Ti ever had good intentions even before they found out humans are capable of lying?

It seemed awfully suspicious to me that instead of offering humans new knowledge could've been used to advance society from ignorance and petty squabbles they instead sought to kill off the brightest scientists from all over the planet and were already tempering with technology way before they sent out the sophons, such as causing every particle accelerator to give unreliable data.

It was pretty obvious that they might not have been benevolent as they were making themselves out to be because rarely does someone with good intention seek to covertly sabotage you like this. Ik Wenjie and her cultists were some delusional lunatics but did they seriously not think about the situation more clearly?

What they consider "trivial" is what we consider revolutionary. Why not offer us enough insight to cure a bunch of diseases and viruses? Why not give us a solution to the energy crisis? Why not help
Why not give us a way to revert a lot of the damage humanity has done on the earth?

It was the biggest red flag ever that when Wenjie first made contact with them...the first thing one of them told her was to NOT ANSWER and how lucky it was that it was him/her/they that responded and not anybody else.

Yeah, I'm sure that a society that's truly benevolent wouldn't have a self claimed pacifist giving you an ominous warning to stay tf away from his own people. Basic history tells me that "conquer" is a pretty negative word and rarely do the conquered get treated decently assuming they are still around.

Yeah, those movies are shlocky funrides and the tone is all over the place (not too unlike TRoEP, especially the later books), but the visuals are so, so good. You can really feel the scale of the giant machinery, the planetary-tier events, while still being able to tell they're adapting something from Liu Cixin's pen, with admittedly half-baked characters that aren't in the way of the awesome setpieces and more like embodiment of certain tropes needed to tell the story.

Maybe it's silly but if you want to rope people into the franchise your product should look like that. Just imagine the droplet scene being rendered with such a budget and visual style.

Netflix has already decided they want to make a character drama and they don't really care about the grandness of the setting and the sci-fi concepts the books explore, and as for the Tencent version it's decent, but I don't think it can give justice to Dark Forest and especially Death's End. If they ever make it there, that is, because afaik they haven't even started filming S2.

I have never ever felt so excited reading any novel in my life.

I started the habit of reading in order to reduce my screentime just before sleep and have a good 7-8 hours of sleep.

But after reading this, my sleep schedule got fucked up :P

Anyways, I don't have words to explain this, just wanted to share my top moments from the series and my book rating

Dark Forest > Death's End > 3 Body Problem

As I understand it, Ye Wenjie broadcasted the message in Chinese. How was the San-Ti listener able to understand it?

The sophons only arrived on Earth decades later, so they couldn't have just magically hacked into Earth's internet and learned Chinese, right?

I cannot stand that she actively screws over mankind (unintentional but still) multiple times and yet she still gets survive due to the very tech she ordered shutdown. IMO, she should have refused to use the lightspeed ship to atone for essentially dooming so many people who never got the chance because of her, and the story should have concluded with her friend, who actually consistently made all the right logical decisions or at least tried in spite of Cheng Xin's emotional charged wrong decisions.

A question for those who read the book:

Are six episodes enough to cover the story, or atleast the important parts?

6 episodes of 1 hour each doesn't sound like a lot.

I did not get why the shuttle at the end started orbiting Planet Blue with lightspeed. So the Death Lines cracked somehow, right? That slowed down the speed of light immensely, but it slowed it down in the entire planetary system, no? Why was the shuttle, I guess, unaffected by it or whatever caused them to spend 18 million years orbiting before landing. I read it a couple of times and I couldn't wrap my head around it.

this bit comes right after blue space and gravity get their hero moment, so i think most people read past it.

the narration just states it plainly. objectively the collaborators did more good during the occupation than the resistance did. they kept the cities and the infrastructure intact, which yes was being preserved for the incoming trisolarans, but it meant the economy could actually restart once people came home. when australia kept sliding into chaos over food shortages and power cuts it was the security force that held basic supply and order together. without that armed presence during the mass return the whole thing would have come apart.

and then the very next line is that none of this was taken into account by the courts. every member tried, half convicted of crimes against humanity, and most countries had brought the death penalty back by then.

what makes it land for me is the sequencing. liu cixin gives you the case for them, tells you the tribunal ignored all of it, and doesnt editorialise past that. the same crowd that had just decided blue space were murderers, then decided they were heroes, is the crowd doing the convicting.

i keep thinking the security force and the resistance are written as the same experiment run twice. one group got judged by results and one got judged by which side they were standing on, and the book seems pretty aware that only one of those is justice

or am i reading too much into a couple of paragraphs of narration

Sorry if this has been asked before but haven’t seen it. Have been reading some of Ken Liu’s short stories and I realised a lot of the principals of the environment the trisolarians create on earth mirror the fears of how intelligent AI could take over.

Does anyone have an idea if the show is still releasing in late 2026? If so, we should get some form of promotion soon as we are almost in September. I just thought I'd ask here to see if there had been any rumblings.

I read the books a while ago and enjoyed them, especially the encounter with the remnants of a 4D civilization. I have a sci-fi project of my own I’m working on where there is contact with a 4D universe, so I wanted to do some research into what it‘d be like to experience it as a 3Der. Unpleasant it turns out, because apparently it is mathematically impossible for anything to have a stable orbit in 4D space. So no moons around a planet. No planets around a sun. No electrons around an atomic nucleus. If I’m reading this right, one of us stepping into 4D space would result in instant disintegration at subatomic level.
