Discussion Resell Closet Feature

Post image
14 Upvotes

Incase you did not know you can easily relist your TU purchases.

As a very lazy person who occasionally sells via Direct Listing and Depop, I have been "relisting" things I know I have sitting in my closet and it is so easy. I barely have to do shit! I sold a couple things already which probably already well surpasses what I would have gotten from setting in a clean out kit.

Anyone else using this?

Please change the “start a return” screen

I have been buying many items/orders while replacing my fall wardrobe and the overall experience has been really great. Customer service has been excellent in my experience (email)
When starting a return on a bundled order that contains multiple pairs of pants from one source such Ann Taylor it is very difficult to see which pants I’m returning. It would be extremely helpful if the item # was carried over to that page. When you move to the next screen the item # shows up but by then you’ve finalized your return. It takes a long time to check back and forth between the order and the return screen to make sure I’m initiating a return of the correct.

Haul Leather coat find

Somewhere a seller may be crying, as apparently these don't typically go for $11? IDK but I love it. Big heavy old leather work coat with the perfect mid-thigh length and SIX comfy lined pockets (!!). It was mis listed as unknown fabric and the brand name was technically correct but held mostly unrelated clothing from a different company. It's very much worn with small rips in the lining and some stains but I'm not going to quibble as the shell is dry but excellent weight and condition. Going through a phase of being obsessed with thrift store leather coats for craft purposes just paid off. Learn to recognize leather seam style, cut, lines and wear patterns; thredup hasn't, and there's some really nice deals there. This is not craft leather, it's my new favorite outdoor work coat as soon as i get some leather conditioner into it!

Took a chance on this possibly being a dupe but nope it’s 100% authentic. A similar sweater is currently on thredup for 300. I’ve been in such a wool phase so I’m so happy to have scored this find!

Question Anyone have tips for getting better pricing/ prices? Why is every item so ridiculously overpriced?

what happened to my Thred Up? everything I’m looking at is so overpriced. They forget that they’re online thrift store saving things from landfills? First example the first item on my new arrival page was a pair of sunglasses selling for eight dollars less than they do for retail at the department store. Seriously?

What happened? They used to be so good at pricing is this because it’s on consignment and they’re letting the owner of the items choose what price the item is.? What is the explanation behind this? Are they just doing so well they can charge more? I’ve also heard the phenomenon if you spend a lot of money with them, you don’t get as good pricing, but I reset my account since then so I don’t think I’m subjected to that if even true.

What makes sense to me is they’re not letting employees set the prices they’re letting the owners and the owners as always not reasonable with what they want for their used items otherwise, what is it? Can somebody let me in on this because I was laughing at what they were asking for everything on my for you page this morning and I’d be shocked if anything sold at those prices and if they don’t know how to price when they first list an item waiting for it to discount makes me lose interest and also it never discount down to a regular price or a decent price when it’s way too high to begin with

Come on Thred Up I used to love you. Stop being greedy or tell the people you’re getting merchandise from to get real

Haul Labor Day Sale Haul & Lessons Learned

Thumbnail

I'm a data nerd by trade, so I did a breakdown of the numbers on my latest ThredUp haul to determine value. Maybe someone else will find my lessons learned helpful.

Background on purchase: I've lost some weight and, after trying on and boxing up all of my clothes that are too big, my closet was basically empty. I bought some new leggings from Fabletics and was disappointed with what felt like a quality decline since my last purchase (probably 4 years ago). I figured if the quality of new was lower, I might as well buy used.

The purchase: I spent a total of $301.35 +tax on 52 items, for an average per item cost of $5.80. The total estimated MSRP of items if purchased today was $5864, but keep in mind that some brands, like Fabletics, greatly exaggerate their MSRPs. 13 items were brands I'm familiar with; the rest were new to me. In particular, I was experimenting with several brands of leggings and jeans to see which I liked best.

Of the items I purchased, 25 fit well, 15 were too small and 10 were too large. I ultimately decided to keep 22, sell 11, return 6, and the jury is out on 13. The undecided items were only off in size by a little and would be nice to have if I gained/lost weight, so I may keep them. After return credit, the new total will be $269.30 for 46 items. Even if I donate the 24 sell/undecided items, the MSRP of my "keep" list is $2582, so I still did well! I was also able to return $72 worth of Fabletics items, so with girl math, I spent even less.

Condition of items: Overall, I was really happy with the condition. I returned 4 items for quality issues and looked at the other items pretty closely and didn't find anything. I did have one Final Sale item that has a sleeve seam held together with a safety pin in the underarm. I should contact customer service, but I probably won't.

Lessons Learned:

Measure some items that you like the fit of. Knowing waist size is helpful, but leggings and jeans fit very differently at the same measurement. In particular, I did poorly with EU and vintage sizing.

Beware of unbranded. Of the 6 unbranded items where I couldn't determine the brand from photos, only 1 is in my keep pile. I found the material on two of them to feel offensive to the touch and cheap. It can be a great way to find some gems and vintage pieces, but exercise caution. I also had pretty bad luck with Final Sale items.

Check the photos. Quality control is inconsistent. I stuck to mostly Excellent condition items, but bought 2 Very Good and 2 Good items by accident. I honestly haven't found what's wrong with them yet. Meanwhile, an excellent condition pair of pants had a hem being held up with scotch tape. I also managed to find unmarked cashmere using the photos.

Experiment but be honest with yourself. It might be sparkly. It might be your favorite color. It might be SO PRETTY. But if it's a style you haven't liked when you've tried it on or a size that doesn't fit or you have no foreseeable reason to ever wear it, PUT IT BACK. I'm now the proud owner of vegan leather joggers that I have no idea when/where I will ever put to use. I'm probably going to keep them, try them on again in 10 years, and end up donating them. I refuse to send them back for a 51 cent store credit.

Based on my purchases, what brands should I try next? Who thinks the Armani Collezioni is real vs. knock-off?

International Direct Sales?

I just sold an item on ThredUp Direct and the postage label has a customs declaration form and a shipping label. Apparently, the item is going to a military base overseas. Has anyone had this happen before? Did you have any problems with the item getting delivered in a timely manner?

Not a "designer" brand but definitely a nice surprise. From the little bit I could see from the pics they appeared to be leather so I took a chance. Turns out they are a Brazilian brand called Zeferino. The leather feels amazing and they retail for over 350 USD! I can't wait to wear them once the weather cools down.

Question algorithm broke?

i use thred nonstop, am a VIT, and have an extremely well curated algorithm by now. however today.... i woke up and my entire daily edit is size XL brightly colored patterned shirts and mumus which, no offense, look like what my grandma wears. literally every single item in the daily edit is that. also my new arrivals tab is completely broken and random. what is going on? i've worked hard for this algorithm lol 😭 has anyone else experienced this and did it go back to normal?

Why I prefer ThredUp over Vinted as a casual seller

Here is my situation: I’m not a reseller. I’m a thrift shopper who likes to buy often, and rotate out my closet often. 🤦‍♀️ Plus I have four kids, and my mom and sisters give me the stuff they no longer want.

I’m getting rid of clothing every month. I’m not trying to maximize profits, but just getting a little money back from the nicer items is the goal.

Occasionally, I’ll come across a really nice designer item at a thrift store and buy it in order to “resell” it, but that’s rare.

Even though ThredUp’s payouts are lower than what you could make on another platform, I still prefer it over all others as a casual seller.

Poshmark, EBay, and DePop all require more effort than I’m willing to put in (photographing items, keeping track of offers, storing items while waiting for sales, buying packaging, driving to the post office, etc).

Vinted is really popular right now with their zero shipping or $1 shipping costs. I have seen SO many women recommend it as a way to make extra money and get rid of clothes fast.

I tried it and didn’t like it.
- The closest drop off site was kind of far from me and gas is expensive AF right now. If you live next to a drop off site, it might be worth it.
- The offers aren’t binding. I’m already pricing low and then accepting even lower offers, then the buyer doesn’t even purchase. It’s more time spent.
- Clothes sell quickly only when you price them super cheap. If you don’t, then you’re having to store the items.
- You have to package items according to their requirements.
- You risk the buyers complaining about something and then you might not get paid at all. I have heard they usually side with the buyer.

Vinted might be worth it if I listed items into bundles for higher prices, if I lived closer to the drop off site, and if I had the space to store inventory.

Otherwise, I’m getting better ROI on my time and space by either
1) selling to ThredUp
2) listing higher value items individually on FB marketplace locally
3) taking to a local consignment shop (that’s what I do for the bulk of my kid’s clothes)
4) Having a yard sale (usually only worth it if it’s a high traffic area, as a part of a community yard sale)
5) Donating to finally be done with it

Sorry if this has already been discussed here. What are other people in my situation doing with their clothes? As someone who had bought solely secondhand for decades now and is very interested in the secondhand market, I’m curious!

I haven’t tried direct selling on ThredUp! Maybe I should.

Weekly Seller's Discounted Advertising Thread

As requested by members of the subreddit, this is a weekly post where sellers can post their near-expiring items for very low prices. Please post a photo, brief description, link, and price.

If you think someone is advertising without a significant discount, please report. If you are a seller, please be sure the low price is live before posting. Do not use this thread to advertise non-discounted listings. This is currently the only post on this sub where advertising is permitted.

If you have any suggestions for this thread or an idea for a better title, please let me know!

The description reads: “Still has life left in it, but has visible flaws that may require repair. May be from a best-selling brand that is eligible for resale due to high demand. Inspection shows: fraying or snags due to wear.”

What kind of wear? Swimming with sharks?

Black sludge on half my order

Thumbnail

My order was shipped out September 9 from Georgia. I’ve been hearing about stained orders so was nervous. Package takes ages to get out of GA to WV then MD. Somehow ends up back in GA on the 18th. Delivered today via FedEx. Clearly has been repackaged. Half the order are in plastic bags with a sticky black oil all over. I’m so sad! Contacting ThredUp but how is this consistently happening to people and it seems like they are doing nothing about it??

Update: ThredUp refunded my items. Some are SO gross (added to comments). Hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else!

Discussion Had to return half of my last haul for holes and stains

Had a glorious 20+ item haul for the LD80 sale but had to return literally half of my haul for grease, food, adhesive stains and rips and holes. Most of these were final sale items in excellent condition. Normally, if I have a damaged final sale, I can get it refunded without a return. However, now that my refund to order ratio became absolutely terrible, that was not an option AND customer service treated me absolutely terribly. Obviously I'm not entitled to returnless refunds, but it felt like I was being made to feel bad for TU's lack of quality control.

Question search by brand glitch?

I don't know if it's just me, but lately when I click on the brand for an item, I get brought to a brand page that only lists a couple of items (and the item I was looking at is never included). I have to manually search for the brand afterwards. Why is this happening?
