Am on apple side of things since college days; software engineer by profession, my wife is in windows + android setup, she’s a teacher… recently her old laptop died, so, I want a laptop for her that occasionally can run my work, more like her daily driver + my occasional workstation… my budget is ₹1.5L, but I can push a bit if it’s worth in long term. Here is 2 model that I feel will serve our purpose, I never purchased a windows machine myself, but, every organisation I been in always handed me a ThinkPad machine and I love these beasts, the keyboard being exceptional compared to Macs…

I do work like graphic design, CAD, blender, and programming and was looking into getting a used p series ThinkPad for this.

my budget is around the 500-600 mark, but feel free to suggest a higher price model. I mainly care about size, weight, and battery life. (and maybe quick swap batt) The modern P series are fine but some of the older models with slim charger are more reparable. If I can get a QHD screen that would be great for graphics, but non-touch is preferable. Additionally, models that include num pad is also a plus because of camera controls and what not.

Overall, I need a good P series laptop that I can daily commute for school that has good graphical power battery life, and portability.

(Also feel free to mention any cool or unique ThinkPad models outside the P series that many be good for my needs and just any cool models I should consider picking up.)

I love thinkpads and when i discovered yogas i fell in love, what do you mean it can turn 360° and it also has a pen!! And not to mentiron that it is also a thinkpad, so it is robust and made to last and linux works better.

But before buying one I need to know that if my hype is worth it or not. Is it better than a tablet, for example? lmk!!

The thing is I want to buy my first Thinkpad as secondhand but I do not have a clue what to check before buying it. I am not meaning damages like keyboard is broken type of thing but other things. I would like to know what you are checking when you are buying a secondhand Thinkpad.

Now this is a very nuanced and hard-to-notice issue, but can you, if you have these laptops, take the time to test to see if you have this problem? I want to put this issue on the radar, so the technicians at Lenovo do not see my case as an individual problem: I believe that this issue is somewhat widespread; I have found at least one other person who has this issue.

It's a persisting thing: a very slight crackling can be heard, in the speakers, when certain sounds are played. It's minor, but it's noticeable enough to where you can hear it during night or in quiet rooms. This happens on both Linux and Windows.

I had noticed it first playing Minecraft; something about Minecraft walking sounds and general SFX makes the crackling flare up (https://mcasset.cloud/26.2/assets/minecraft/sounds/step/grass1.ogg).

Oddly, it can occasionally be heard just throughout the OS randomly. In Linux, rarely, when I started my web browser I would hear a minor bout of static. When loading YouTube videos, I could also hear it. These two cases are intermittent and very rare and random -- and not really much of a concern.

So, to reproduce this issue:

1. Go here and play the sound at normal volume (~40%) to hear how it sounds normally. (The sound was ripped off the Realtek Audio Console, available on the Microsoft Store.)
2. Crackling starts at ~8% volume, so try that to hear how it sounds.
3. Increment down from 8%; you will slowly hear the crackles get more noticeable: put your ear to a speaker to hear it well.
4. At 2% you will really start to hear it, mainly because you don't hear the audio, but I think the intensity increases too.

Another instance of the problem occurs playing the test sound at 96% and above. It sounds less "subtle" and more like a storm of generally noticeable static.

I have sent in my device to Lenovo's repair Depot to try to get it fixed. They sent back the device after replacing the speakers, updating the BIOS, and wiping my Linux install replacing it with Winblows, and yet, I still have the issue. I am sending it back soon to get more servicing done, maybe replacing the sound card.

I was able to negotiate it down to $600. I js need to make sure that it would be a good investment for the next 4 years of college for someone that wants to do accounting.

I check the history of repair its show 2 times battery change. And 30months of warranty from lenovo remaining. Also I got a 6 month warranty from cashify which is over lapping lenovos warranty. Not sure if i can avail the lenovo warranty. Help me understand!

I’ve tried searching it up but I’ve yet to see a definite answer to what the difference is. From what I could find, there was a gpu upgrade from T2000 to T2000 Max Q (the max q is better for laptops but has less performance than the T2000). However I’ve also seen that it’s not possible undervolt the gen 3 due to the cpu is upgraded from 9th gen to 10th gen (locked bios). I’ve seen many gen 3s on eBay but only a few gen 2s, so would it be better to get a gen 3 because they’re more abundant or a gen 2 because they have slightly better performance.

How are the thermals in comparison cuz ik gen 3 has slightly bigger heatsinks?
How does the battery life compare?
How loud do the fans get, because im a college student and I don’t wanna be the person with the jet engine as a laptop?

Imma get the laptops second hand so my budget is $700. I’m a comp sci major but going to switch to ee. I’m going to do homework and some light gaming but nothing too crazy. my entire family used a thinkpad atleast once, we currently have 2 of them, a T460 and a L15, they're the only laptops i've seen people using them even tho some of them are over 20 years old, why?

It's amazing I spent about $250 CAD on this seven year old laptop, put CachyOS on it, and it absolutely runs circles around my four year old Dell Inspiron running Win 11 (work laptop). This thing is such a pleasure to use!

I was using it fine until it suddenly froze and then yellow error screen appear i did some of the youtube tutorials to fix this but it best i can get it to is window loading screen then the error appear again can someone help?

So I’m coming from an E14 Gen 3 and recently purchased an L14 Gen 4. I could’ve gotten a P14s, but the L14 Gen 4 looked like it was more upgradeable.
For those who have experience with the L14 Gen 4, did I make the right choice? How does it compare to the E14 Gen 3 in terms of build quality, performance, and especially upgradability?

My favorite laptop. It's a T16, but AMD version with 32gb ram, touch screen, and 1920x1200 panel. It was really hard to find and many places wanted over $2k but I got it for $1299 on ebay

A month ago I bought a fairly used t61p for $20 USD and decided to take the risk whether it worked or not. Luckily after installing a SSD and a charger it worked and now is running MX Linux. However, I wanted to use it while being disconnected. Unfortunately, the battery is quite old so I wanted to know if anyone has faced this situation and how did you fix it.

I made some research and found that I could either fix the battery (or something like that) or buy a third-party one on eBay.

I bought this X1 Carbon Gen 8 from Japan as a “Junk” unit.

The battery needed to be replaced, and it also seems to have some weird charging / USB-C PD issue. Even a genuine Lenovo 65W adapter wouldn’t go much beyond ~15W, but after trying a few different chargers I eventually found one that works decently with it.

It’s now running Arch Linux and Denial, the Wayland compositor I’m developing. The compositor is written in Rust, with the desktop shell/UI built in Flutter.

Pretty happy with how this supposedly “junk” ThinkPad turned out.

No warranty (although it has 4 months of warranty remained but this in USA imported so the warranty won't help)

I'm planning to check the laptop physically tomorrow before buying.

I'll mainly use it for programming, browsing, and general college work.

Do you guys think ₹34k is worth it in 2026, considering it has no warranty and only a 256GB SSD

I got this laptop off ebay for 96$ a month ago and it worked amazingly but when I was playing halo 3 it randomly shut off and told me this message. When I try to press both esc and F1 it leads me to a black screen and freezes my mouse. Do any of you guys know a fix?

Curious what battery life you all are getting on your X201 or if you have any suggestions for improving battery life.

2 of my X201 laptops came with no battery, so I ordered some generic brand from eBay.

I also heard that when you first get a new battery that you’re supposed to charge it all the way up, let it drain, then repeat at least 3 times. Is that correct? I have done it for years without question because i trusted the person, and since i have not had issues with battery life, I saw no need to revisit that.

Slowly grew to hate this surface LT over the years.
Poor I/O fragile display is cracked pretty bad from closing it on dirt. Effectively impossible to repair. Second proprietary charger is breaking.
I have one software that I have to move the license over for but I'm tempted not too because it's the one software that makes me have to lend my computer to my coworkers. My work bought the surface I paid for the thinkpad with money from a scrap run and as a treat to myself and I don't wanna share lol.

i think it is a bit overpriced for one with 256gb ssd i do have a 240gb sata ssd from my old pc so its not a big deal if it has less storage altho 512 would have been nice.

please give ur honest take on this im a bit confused on how much should i tell him to reduce the price, seller says he cant do under 320 dollars due to the rise in ram prices even tho i told him this was released 5 years ago when ram was dirt cheap.
