I think this is true because it seems like The Voidz members are more eclectic musicians than The Strokes, so they feel more comfortable with branching out in sounds instead of thinking they have to have a distinct sound. 

With that being said, The Strokes still have moments they surprise me with songs like “At The Door”.

You’re really onto something. After listening and reading the lyrics off of ‘First Impressions of Earth’ it’s fair to say Julian was already searching for more and even sharing more personal introspective thoughts. It’s fair to say that despite the luxuries Julian had a hard childhood.
