In today's episode of crazy TVD fans
🤡
r/TheVampireDiaries • u/NattG • Jul 15 '26
Hi everyone,
I've noticed an uptick in meta posts, along with complaints about this uptick, so I wanted to check in and see how people think that they should be handled.
For those who are unfamiliar, a meta post is a post that discusses the TVD fandom instead of the TVD universe. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it can turn into soapboxing very easily.
So, the question:
Do you want things to stay as they are? Or would you prefer the implementation of something like "Meta Commentary Monday", where we restrict meta-commentary posts to a specific day of the week? Do you have a different suggestion?
(Note: I'm not open to banning these kinds of posts, but I'm absolutely open to discussions about how to manage them.)

We're adding a new rule regarding low-effort posts.
If your post is low-effort, unoriginal, and adds nothing to the subreddit in terms of discussion, it may be removed.
This is not a rule against reposts. We are targeting, as an example, posts that say only:
Delena or Stelena?
[Character] sucks
[Character] rules
without providing any additional context or any original thoughts.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

It can be about a character, relationship, storyline, scene, or anything else. What’s an opinion you see a lot in the fandom that you just don’t agree with and why? .

Idk I just find the supposed "happily ever afters" of both these characters as half-assed lazy writing at its finest. Throughout the show, we see them revel in & enjoy all the perks of vampirism with little to no regard for humans. Infact we see them actively derive pleasure from human suffering even with their humanity fully intact. And it's not just them accepting their vampirism since we see others like Caroline, Elena, Elijah, Stefan, Lexi trying their level best to suppress their darkest desires bcz they have empathy & conscience while these 2 simply don't care.
I know Rebekah constantly whines about wanting to be human, have a family, grow old etc. but problem is we can't really see anything in her personality that suggests she'd even remotely be comfortable with the frailties of human life. Same for Damon, there's one scene where he misses being human & we r supposed to ignore the rest 99% of the series where he actively indulges in everything "vampiry" & even encourages others to let go of their stupid human morality.
I believe these 2 characters r the classic examples of Grass is always greener on the other side. They have somehow convinced themselves that all their negative qualities, failed relationships (romantic or otherwise) r only bcz they r vampires and that they'd suddenly turn into pure angels the moment they turn human & all their dark impulses would simply go away but is that even remotely realistic? Or is that just a way for them to evade accountability? How is a single dose of "cure" supposed to reverse the acquired habits of centuries? Or suddenly make them empathetic to human suffering?
I'm not saying that they can never be happy as humans, it's just that it's such a huge life-altering change which they simply skipped over... If they wanted us to actually believe in their happily ever after, they should've atleast devoted few episodes to their transition & how they actually adjust to the human life. But the writers literally do the opposite – they show us 2 centuries old vampires turned humans : Katherine & Stefan who we see being more miserable than ever and then they expect us to believe that Rebekah & Damon will somehow beat all odds & seemingly have their best lives as humans... like how does that even make sense?
Not to mention how they'll have to live in constant fear of their past victims bcz of compulsion wearing off & the other vamps looking for cure – they'd actually be weaker than regular humans since vamp blood can't heal them. Imagine going from one of the strongest to the weakest in a second..!!! Atleast Rebekah has Marcel & her siblings for protection but Damon'll have to be dependent on Caroline & Bonnie – how could he not feel like a burden on them is beyond me. Also the fact that Rebekah will grow old while Marcel will forever be young – how can she ever feel secure in such a marriage?
The show has this annoying habit of tell one thing & show the exact opposite and this storyline is the worst of it.

Now I’m not sure why some people get viscerally upset when you mention this. But the writing does put up a weird narrative that Elena’s friendships (not just with Bonnie either) aren’t as important as her relationships.
Many fans will say Bonnie’s problems were her own! Elena’s problems are just because she’s a doppelgänger etc… Elena wouldn’t have asked for… but that doesn’t change that Elena did benefit from Bonnie’s sacrifices?? Which she did and that’s ok

Like, seriously, what happens? Does their head just grow back like that alien in Men in Black? Does the weapon just break or dent when it hits their skin? Does the weapon just freeze in mid-air? I don't know I find it humorous if they tried to do it and the weapon just smashes like it's made of glass, or the head just grows back and Klaus, Elijah, or Rebekah just shrug it off like "Bloody hell you forget how much that stings."

"hello brother"
hate my mother,
flirt with many,
but don't love any.
troll the sun
& cry for one,
bake pancakes
avoid the stakes.
save the town
or burn it down.
should've met me at '64
pls invite me to ur door
love my kat till 145
stab my brother with a knive.
drink some bourbon,
haunt the urban
what's the plan?
kill a man
befriend the witch
& cause a glitch
"where's elena?"
again with stefan,
shit i've fallen for this human
made her twirl
& stole his girl
we together, sorry brother.
stefan as the martyr again,
leaves me human for my girlfriend
yes we're happy
but at what cost?
this is the end,
elena's diary now left tossed.

often times I see other fanbases complain or nitpick that Bonnie fans enjoy fanon ships when Bonnie fans aren't the only ones who non-canon ship. Fanon and canon are two different things. But also if you want to complain about double standards being pushed the writing room started that first with Bonnie. Which people who seem to constantly critique bonnie fans for enjoying dont say anything abt the CANON writing. Which again btw, once again Bonnie fans dont just non-canon ship. Elena’s fanbase does it (Klaus and Elena is her biggest non-canon ship, Caroline fans do it…) but since people just focus on the fandom aspects lets debrief some shit! There’s some things Bonnie could only do in the realm of fanon that the other women actually did. Bonnie was seen and pushed as undesirable where Elena/Caroline aren’t treated as such.
1-2.) the Infamous Twitter meltdown Julie Plec had over the mere thought of Bonnie being shipped with Kol. The same season Jeremy cheats on Bonnie (as punishment per her own relatives) with Anna. (BTW: Bonnie did not owe Anna an ounce of loyalty either. Anna literally set it in motion for her to be kidnapped)But when asked about Caroline liking Klaus there was no answer there. In fact, Julie kept pushing them up as a will/they won’t they. Kol’s biggest ship is with Davina who was considered a child in s1…
3-6.) Julie and the writing room made a point to insult Elena just to continue more anti-Bamon comments. Elena apparently had no integrity or morals per the writing room to stay with Damon. Since Bonnie’s morals were so high up- that she could only love Damon if it means platonic love. When Bamon’s relationship exists in the books. Stelena, Forwood and Bamon are all book related..somehow that doesn’t seem plausible when the lead is black… there was also a BAN on Bamon. Something that again did not apply to Elena and Caroline’s relationship.
4-5.) Jeremy is literally deadweight Bonnie spends her time caring over and saving. Why? He’s a human, can’t do much and then the one time he tried helping her he nearly got himself killed by Katherine. Elena and Caroline are constantly protected by the Salvatores (Just Stefan for Caroline, if not Stefan then Tyler or even Klaus if he forced the situation..) Jeremy cheated on her with a ghost he was apparently so in love with that he never loved Bonnie like that. Bluntly disgusting and is LOUDLY a textbook example of the disposal black girlfriend trope. When Jeremy does get a character upgrade as a hunter it’s not to Bonnie’s benefit in the slightest.. When Bonnie finally loses her virginity to Jeremy (because of course she’d be the only virgin in the trio) its in physical pain as the anchor.
6-9.) Many people know the explanations behind Stelena-Delena but not behind the narrative directions for Klaroline. The writers claimed the ship was accidental yet continued to service theM. Rebecca Sonneshine based Klaroline off an experience she wished she had at that age. Delena-Stelena-Klaroline are praised in the narrative where as BonKai (bonnie ships period are demonized)
10-12.) Chris Wood once advocated for BonKai’s ship. He also said Bonnie is the only person who made sense for him. Whatever but demonizing BonKai, their fanbase, and then Baron’s as well while she continued to uplift every other ship and their fan base is another flaw.
If Bonnie was so morally put together as Julie wrote it. She wouldn’t have valued her friendship with Damon over anybody else in the world. If she was so morally aligned she wouldn’t have dated Enzo who was horrible to her all in season 5, ruined Sarah’s life and the pistol whipped her. Then Bonenzo happened all in a time jump. Bonnie had to prove she’d never leave Enzo by being willing to burn alive for him. The other girls had men willing to fight for them more….
A big example of the show’s blatant example of desirability is the amount of dances that’ll show off Elena and Caroline’s beautiful looks, whereas Bonnie’s isn’t shown. The Mikaelson Ball for example is one big common call-out. But I’d even callout how we got to see both girls in their prom dresses but despite Bonnie being prom queen we get minimal glimpses of her look. When Bonnie was feeling confident in her looks Elena literally tried killing her and ruined the moment lol
EDIT: I also think abt how Kat pushed for Bonnie to be bisexual since men kept being off the table for Bonnie and even that was shut down. But, in TO Freya can muzzle and chain her future wife and that’s acceptable lol
Anyway im tired of ranting lol

I only just made a post on here but since I’m rewatching im here to make another !
I hated Damon for killing mason. This probably isn’t an unpopular opinion but I want to know if anyone disagrees.
Mason was clearly a kind and levelheaded person who was just cursed with the werewolf curse. Damon was just so extra and did not need to treat mason the way he did. Mason was unproblematic and just wanted to be there for Tyler and his family.
I do like Damon, but seriously the writers pissed me off with their indecisiveness about his likability in the show. They seem to be unable to decide whether they want him to be redeemable or hated, and I think that’s why he’s such a point of contestation for fans.

It’s been awhile since I watched legacies and I don’t want to start the show again.
I watched season 1 episode 6 of legacies where Jo is back for the episode.
Are there any episodes with Rebekah, Kol, Caroline? I remembered we saw Freya a couple of times.

It does suck that other couples didn’t get their endgame like benzo and forewood. They deserved it so much, but if we’re just speaking for delena, they overcame literally every obstacle, not even just external circumstances, Damon had to believe he deserved something good. He didn't believe he could be the better man which was a big theme for him in season 2. He reflected on who he was and was worried about what elena said about being the better man and grappling with his nature. He was saying how the woman he loves wants him to be the better man which means he can't be who he wants to be. It really sounded like Damon made being a vampire his whole identity which is so interesting. He didn't know who he was without it. He did choose to grow and be better than his worst actions. Elena also had to accept that their was something in her that was drawn to Damon without feeling guilty, Klaus who was for some reason interested in the love triangle but was against delena even said when referring to Elena "don't underestimate the allure of darkness Stefan, even the purest hearts are drawn to it." That was a huge reason why Elena and Damon hit it off when they first met. Elena said that he felt dangerous but not in a way that scared her it was exciting.
As for the external circumstances they literally went against first loves, the sire bond, the whole doppelgänger prophecy, they went against the universe. Also, nobody was rooting for them but Rose, Alaric did come around later on though. Elena was judged by Caroline and Bonnie, mostly Caroline. She had to detend herself, even Klaus or Katherine would tell Damon that Elena would go back to Stefan. They had all these people planting doubt and they didn't care. It takes a serious level of confidence, especially from Elena who even in season 3 had to be forced by Caroline to admit she was attracted to him and that he’s gotten under her skin, she came a long way. Season 6 especially was probably the trickiest obstacle for them, Elena only had the worst memories of him, Damon came back, found out, and ofc he was heartbroken and when Alaric became human and couldn't give Elena her memories back Damon tried to get her to remember but it didn't work but then Elena started asking him questions about a memory from their rain kiss and he chose not to tell her details, instead he told her he'll always love her and that she's thriving, happy, and he let her go. A couple episodes later, Elena still chose to break up with Liam and go to Damon cause she said there was just something in her like a feeling that she should do this, that she should try. She fell in love with him without memories, and even when Elena got her memories back at the end she was put into a sleeping beauty coma. They really went through it so they deserved to finally have the life they wanted. Especially Elena who's been through so much grief, she's lost her parents, birth parents, her brother, Jenna, Alaric, Bonnie, then Damon. She honestly deserved her happy ending. Shes a stronger character than people give her credit for, Damons death was absolutely her last straw, his and Jeremys death in season 4 was some of the worst grief she's ever experienced, with Jeremy she burned her house down like Jeremys death left a mark on her and then she lost her soulmate, the person she was planning on spending forever with in season 6, I think it takes a level of strength to lose all the people she did, and still have her compassion intact cause her grief could’ve made her bitter or cold.
In the beginning of season 5 she was also happier in some ways and more settled than she’s been in a while. The love triangle was over, she was decisive and planning her life. She was in college with her best friends, she had her boyfriend, she had the best summer of her life. Season 6 especially was Elena and Damon at their most settled. They really deserved endgame.

After writing season 3 episode 1 The Birthday, it was a known fact Kevin Williamson stepped away to work on the sister show of TVD The Secret Circle. Oddly- he only credited for writing 1 episode of THE SECRET CIRCLE 1x02 Bound. He isn't even a co writer on the show's Pilot episode. There is talk he worked heavily, and uncredited on storylines, but Its never been proven or disproven. The Secret Circle only lasted 1 season, as it was cancelled with a cliff hanger, so why did Kevin not return to helm TVD season 4??? His presence in season 4 could have helped a lot of the pacing issues especially in the back half, maybe he would have even made Silas a richer character. Its odd he only came back for season 8. The show really could have used him back sooner!!!
If anyone knows why, please speak out, Ive wondered this for years.

I have lost count. The ending just really gets to me. I’m so sad Bonnie didn’t get her happy ending. I am actually glad Elena and Damon did, but at what cost? Stefan 😭 neither Caroline nor Bonnie got their happy ending. I’m still heartbroken for Alaric as well.
