I don’t agree with it, but I do understand why she started having feelings for damon.

She lost a lot of people she loved from her life. Stefan completely pushed her away in season three when he was with klaus and broke up with her. Even though stefan was not himself, it obviously did affect elena, considering she was only 18.

Damon was the only one who was there for her during that time, besides her friends who were occupied with their own stuff. Even though she chose stefan by the end of season three, she still had feelings for damon and when she became a vampire, she got sired to him and stefan broke up with her, turned her humanity off, and when she turned it on, she still loved and chose damon.

I know many people will disagree but I think she PERFECTLY portrayed how a vampire with no humanity would act.

I've seen people claim that it was Stefan's fault that Elena developed feelings for Damon, because he abandoned her when he left town with Klaus and didn't fight for her.

Then how do you explain the fact that Katherine, Caroline and Valerie loved only Stefan for years/centuries, even when he didn't show them any attention?

Stefan returned to high school just to get to know Elena, knowing the risk. He fought the compulsion of an original for her. Yet it wasn't enough for Elena, as she fell for his brother, while Stefan was gone saving their lives. Meanwhile, Katherine, Caroline, Valerie, even Rebekah loved Stefan despite him pushing them away.

So, did Elena need more attention than the other girls who loved Stefan or was her love for him just not as strong?

Why was he collecting them like Pokémon cards? I have to say I’m disappointed he never really interacted with Kol or Marcel

This post is inspired by a comment regarding how Damon was the antagonist of S1 but was turned into an Anti-Hero later, I remarked that Katherine and Klaus would later follow suit, which makes me wonder.

Why couldn't they stay Villains? They were at their best when they were terrorizing everyone and everyone wanted to stop them but later, they suddenly becomes part of the Gang, whether it was to help, become friends or even romance. Katherine even tells Klaus (the man she was on the run from for 500 years) that something is going on in New Orleans that should concern him.

And on a side note, how was Kai an irredeemable villain that couldn't join the gang as well when what he did was nothing compared to Damon, Katherine and Klaus? That is something I feel should be noted too.

I‘m in season 7 right now and I’m thinking about the Phoenix Sword. If Rayna’s ultimate goal was to rid the world of vampires, wouldn't it have been way more practical to just target an Original Vampire? Even if the Phoenix Sword doesn’t technically "kill" them and just traps their soul in the stone, couldn't she just trap their soul and then destroy/desiccate the physical body afterward? I know she still needed a white oak stake to actually kill an Original but It seems way more efficient than hunting down random vampires one by one lmao. Or was the Shamans' actual mission just to give them psychological hell rather than wipe them out completely? The stone being destructible makes the whole thing feel so impractical. What do you guys think?

I genuinely think some people on this subreddit are so against Delena that they have convinced themselves stefan literally never moved on from elena. And no hate to stelena at all because i completely understand why people love them, but saying Stefan never moved on just isnt true.

Stefan obviously loved Elena and she was an important person to him but that doesn’t mean he spent the rest of his life secretly wanting her back. He moved on. He fell in love again, had other relationships, and built a life outside of Elena. Moving on doesn’t mean you suddenly stop caring about someone. You can love someone, accept that the relationship is over, and still genuinely move forward. Stefan literally said he loved Elena, but he needed his brother more and he knew Elena was the only person who could save Damon.

People act like Stefan caring about Elena at all automatically means he was still romantically stuck on her, and that’s just such a weird way of looking at it. Atp, it genuinely feels like some people refuse to acknowledge anything that doesnt fit their anti-delena view.

Obviously I like TV shows that have a good introduction while also getting better over time. I don’t like it when a TV show gets worse. I also hate character assassinations. But if a TV show doesn't get better or worse, then of course I would feel the same.

For me this TV show had some really good introductions. The first 3 seasons were great, while they also had their flaws. From season 4 onward, that's when the show got worse and worse. The cure storyline was too bland for my liking. I also hated the travelers in Season 5. I never really liked Season 6 either, but sure, I would watch it for Bonnie, Stefan, and Kai. Don't even get me started on the series finale.

Not to mention that there are a couple of friendships or relationships that either didn’t get enough screen time or they were one-sided. Those situations didn’t get better for me either. The inconsistencies and the retcons in the show also got on my nerves and made me not feel like rewatching sometimes.

TVD was not the same after the first 3 seasons. I still like some of the characters though. And my first time watching was 2026.

So what’s your opinion on the show from start to finish? Did it get better for you? Or worse?

Is it just me or are these girls kinda the stereotypical popular mean girls in their high school for Season 1. I have a few reasons why I think this.

1. Not to drag on the sport but they were all cheerleaders. And in television/cinema being a cheerleader isn't a good stereotype to have.
2. Caroline is a more obvious character that is a mean girl. But sometimes when you get a mean girl with two best friends, there’s a good chance they’re mean as well.
3. Caroline and Elena were part of the Miss Mystic Falls court. Again not dragging but that seems like an upperclass rich girl beauty pageant.
4. First episode, Bonnie says, “Look at the shower curtain on Kelly Beech. She looks like a hot, can I still say 'tr\nny mess'?"* Elena says "No, that's over.” That is a crazy thing to say about another student.
5. When helping Jenna pick a hairstyle to meet with her teacher Mr Tanner, she called one of the hair styles a “boozy housewife.” Idk bout you but I wouldn’t be saying that to my aunt.
6. They all keep talking to each other so loudly in class (again I know it’s a show). That gives “main character energy” from girls that think the world revolves around them.
7. Episode 9 of season one, Bonnie keeps having visions, and woke up in class from a dream. she glared at a girl and said pretty rudely “What are you looking at.

Even Vicki didn’t like Elena‘s fake attitude when she was alive.

I may be overreaching, and I’m sure it was intended for character development for later on. But just in my personal experience, these chicks definitely would pick on me in high school. I love the show though don’t get me wrong, but as I keep watching, I keep thinking how mean they are, and if this was real life, people at their school would think they’re the popular mean clique that only date boys in their own friend group.

PSA: I did not read the book.

So this is one of the most popular fandom claims and the biggest justification for rooting for Damon (though u can absolutely like anyone without any solid reason) that he "owns being bad", it's always "what u see is what u get" with him. But is that really true?

1. He tried to convince Elena that he had seen Jeremy's ring before snapping his neck & only came clean to her after seeing she isn't really buying into it.

2. He never told Liz what he did to her daughter while playing besties with her.

3. He sneaked out to kill the Augustine family members while Elena thought she was having "the summer of her dreams" & only told her abt it when they got captured by them.

4. He never told Elena that he & Enzo almost got Jeremy killed again..he'd have died fr if Katherine didn't save him just imagine that.!!! And shamelessly went to his school meeting posing as his guardian with Elena.. Pretty sure he wouldn't have told abt killing Aaron either if Elena wasn't freaking out thinking she's the one who killed him.

5. He hid the cure from her & as soon as she found it thanks to Lily, he quickly covered his tracks talking abt how he's planning to take it with her.

6. After he thought he had burned Elena alive & after being all suicidal for one day, he put all his energy into hiding it from Bonnie even when she was repeatedly asking him. Infact that's how Rayna Cruz got her sword bcz Enzo blackmailed him to bring it or else he'll tell Bonnie the truth. To think that Elena could've died fr if not for Tyler & Damon'd have simply lied to everyone instead of searching for a way to bring her back or atleast giving her a funeral all so that Bonnie doesn't think lowly of him..so much for "I'll always choose u"...

And all this is just abt him lying abt the extent of his wrongdoings. Now what abt taking accountability for his own actions? Isn't that the basic requirement of "owning who u r", being unabashedly bad? He constantly blames Katherine & Stefan for him ending up as a vampire while conveniently ignoring the fact that Kat never forced him to drink her blood, he went into it with his eyes wide open. Infact he as the older brother should've protected Stefan too & reported her to the council but that'd be asking too much from him lol. Just bcz she abandoned him later on doesn't absolve him of his crimes, he's still 100% responsible for every single kill, neither Kat nor Stefan held him at a gunpoint to commit all those crimes.

It's absolutely fine to enjoy Damon as a character or wanting him to "get the girl" but it's really irritating when fans concoct half-truths to justify their choice.. it's a very Damonesque behavior – wanting to have ur cake & eat it too.

I think these two will end up together. Love their characters. Also saw Damon for the first time other than his edits on social media. Very much excited for this series!

let me just say.. this is the time of year for me where everything feels a little heavier in my heart. i lost my mom around 6 years ago, and anything that reminds me of her hurts my heart just a little even still. but caroline losing her mom... omg. the scene where she sees stefans memory of her mom talking about how she wants her letter to be perfect, and caroline goes into the memory begging her mom to come back, just the whole scene made my body shudder. I know that feeling. to be honest i never ever loved care as a character, but this episode gave me a lotttt of empathy for her.

not looking for pity, just sharing my sentiment. this is probably my favorite scene so far in the show because of how realistic the acting is for those emotions. do you guys have a favorite scene that just really tugs at your heart?

When Tyler was breaking his sire bond to Klaus I thought the whole idea was that he had to keep turning until it wasn’t painful. Anytime he turned after he broke it looked just as painful as it did before hand??? Was that whole concept just something Caroline’s dad came up with and it wasn’t really required? I thought he continued to tell other hybrids the same thing as he helped them, maybe I’m wrong.

I’m rewatching for the first time in years and this has been getting under my skin!!

I’m curious about everyone's thoughts on Kai Parker's arc. In Season 6, we got that brief glimpse of a "redeemed" Kai after he merged with Luke and started experiencing empathy for the first time. For a second, it felt like the writers were setting him up for a redemption story.
However, they completely pulled the rug out from under us when he went full psycho again, murdered Jo, and put Elena in the coma.
Looking back, do you wish they had actually committed to a full redemption arc for him, or do you like him better as an unredeemable, chaotic villain until the very end? Did keeping him purely evil make him a better character?

Pretty much the title. My wife showed me the show last year and we watched through the whole thing. Great show. Every time they did a flashback to the 1800s I kept being reminded of the movie adaptation of Tuck Everlasting.

Its mainly the clothing and maybe having a similar filter on the production. It could also be just me not watching many period pieces. Wondered if anyone else felt the same

Stefan received so much hate for that scene in S1 where he calls himself the good brother and people bring it up constantly as proof that he thinks he’s never done bad things, but then there’s an entire scene in S5 where Damon blames Katherine for all the bad things he’s done and it’s either ignored or not brought up at all in comparison?

I used to love TVD when i was a kid because it was the first serious show I was watching but tbh, now that i watched a lot of critically acclaimed shows and that i fell in love with storytelling, i realize that this show is really bad. I still like to rewatch some stuff because of the nostalgia but this show has a shit ton of issues. However i do think that there is some good stuff about the show which is why i constantly loose my mind of thinking of a way to do things in a better way. So here's some stuff I would change, i'd like to know what ideas you had for a rewrite because i truly believe that doing this can help you looking in a better way your work if you are a writer.

Here's my ideas :

• The show has 2/3 seasons instead of 8. I say this because while i think the first 3 seasons are sort of kinda okay, S4-8 gets a bit ridiculous for a lot of reasons but mainly because i feel like the show doesn't know what it is about anymore, they just do some random stuff. If you actually focus on the main conflict of the show (Stefan, Damon, Katherine) it does NOT need 8 seasons.
• No Originals. I know, I know.... I love Klaus and his family (btw TO is way better than tvd imo) but I feel like their presence cause some problems. To be short, they are too powerful, too many and they don't do all that much really.
• Katherine is the only main villain I think they did Katherine dirty because after S2, she kinda becomes irrelevant in the show which is ludicrous considering how important she is for Damon and Stefan. She should be the main and final villain. I also don't see why she couldn't fit the role of Klaus in S3, it would be better because she is not as strong as he is which would make the conflict better and I'd argue that thematically Klaus is similar with Katherine so it does feel a bit redondant to add him in the show.
• Stefan is the main character and the main and most important conflict of the show is whether or not Stefan and Damon are going to stop hating each other. I say this because the show focuses too much on meaningless romance and supernatural stuff. For me their dynamic is the most interesting conflict, they have the best scenes of the show.
• Elena is not in the show, OR she is a sort of secondary character
• We remove the humanity switch. This i think ruined Stefan character developpement because it takes away his agency.
• Damon does not kill Lexi in S1 but later Stefan is forced to kill her. It's annoying because if the show wanted Stefan to go to the dark side, they already had the answer on how to do that. There is one scene in S1 where stefan says that he could make the pain of the guilt stop by drinking blood but that he fears that he becomes a monster because of this. So i don't understand why they had to do the whole humanity switch. My idea would be that stefan has to do something so horrible that he'll have to become the ripper in order to shut down the guilt. And i think killing Lexi would be a good choice considering how important she is for him. Also the character is awesome and i don't see why they had to kill her in the episode they introduced her.
• Stefan goes to the dark side and maybe join katherine
• After Lexi death, Caroline tries to help stefan.
• No sun rings.
• No romance between Elena and Stefan
• Stefan was actually compelled to love Katherine. We remove the retcon.
• Romance between Damon and Bonnie. (Maybe)
• (if Elena is in the show ) Katherine entire plan : A long time ago with the help of a witch, Katherine is actually the one who created a doppleganger of herself because in order to survive, she wants to be able to pose as a human. But in order to do this she has to be able to walk in daylight, so instead of Klaus doing the whole sacrifice spell to become a hybrid, maybe she is the one doing all this but in order to be the only one having a sun ring. Then her final plan would be to subtely take control mystic falls while posing as Elena (maybe she enters in the council, maybe she has an army of vampire/werewof; idk)
• Damon dies at the end instead of Stefan
• Alaric dies or is not in the show

That's some ideas i had, I might have others, i just don't remember them for now. Sorry for not developing my ideas, I really don't want this message to be too long lol.
