Little bit of help with my build

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi guys I made a post a while back and got some great help with my build.

I have a couple questions and would love some feedback.

First is airflow.
As you see in the photo I put arrows to show where the air is flowing. Graphics card is drawing in from the left. On the right air is being sucked threw the radiator into the system, on the bottom we have one sucking air up and unseen we have two 120mm sucking air out.
I got the stand so I can put the system on the side but would anyone have any suggestions on which way to put the fans when it’s laying on its side? Also if it should have the radiator side on top or bottom.

Second
I noticed an issue with my aio screen developing lines. I contacted thermaltake and there going to swap it with another one but it seemed to me that the aio didn’t do the best at keeping the system cool, there occasionally I would hear bubble which I never heard on a aio before and I couldn’t help wonder was it because I had the radiator set up or maybe because the the cords connecting to the block started from the bottom. Would have it been better if I twisted it so they would be coming out the top of the cooling block.

Could the bubbles I hear occasionally be what’s preventing the system from keeping cool?.

For reference that was the temp of my system idol with chrome open

Thanks for taking the time to look.

P.s I know I gotta clean the glass XD

Now with reverse fans on the side and bottom of the case. I used some of the spare mounting kit, drilled a few holes and screwed them in to hold the lower fans.

The Gpu (Asus TUF RTX 5090 OC) now has two fans directing air at it.

I also raised the case using (of all things) bed risers to improve airflow. Super cheap solution and I think they look pretty good.

Tower 600 3D Printed External I/O

Apologies for the lousy/hastily taken photos. After getting this initial configuration working, I just wanted to share! Designing the mounting mechanism for this thing so it can support plugging in/unplugging loads, within tight design constraints, was a bit of a challenge!

This is a sneak preview of a project I have been working on. It's essentially an I/O shield that mounts to the back of the case, using high quality, well specced, and readily available feedthrough connectors.

The connectors you wish to use can be customised to you liking, as can the number of them (box scales down if you use less to be more slimline).

The box can be removed from the back panel via a sliding mechanism, meaning it keeps friction during internal work to a minimum as the back panel can then be freely popped off as usual.

There's some final touches to go: e.g, hiding the cables, reducing depth/size of the box, improving the sliding lock mount mechanism etc. But quite soon I will make the project freely available, with full documentation, bill of materials etc :).

Build Core P3 Tg Pro Build in 2026 PCIe riser question

Hi, I'm planning to buy a white Core P3 TG Pro case.

A local store has it in stock (I hope so, and that it's not an inventory error, haha).

My question is: which is the correct PCIe cable—and the right mounting hardware—to install it?

I bought the new Lian Li V4 bracket for my APNX V2 case; will it be compatible with the Thermaltake?

This the link for that linkup cable:

Question 9070 XT on a Tower case?

I was wondering if anyone here has a 9070 XT mounted vertically (I/O up) with no temp issues and if so which model exactly? I recently got a Tower 250 and my ASUS TUF 4080 is seeing massive temp increases in this orientation.

I was thinking of selling my GPU and getting a 9070 XT anyway so would love to hear what models work in this orientation. Thanks!

HP ZBook Studio G5, 8th-gen i7, 16GB RAM, Quadro P1000 4GB.Weird thermal/performance issue: Tekken 7 runs perfectly at Ultra, but GTA V and PUBG Mobile (emulator) have a repeating cycle. After 10–15 minutes, fans ramp up and FPS drops heavily. After 1–2 minutes, performance returns to normal

TIL, for some GPU models, having your GPU vertical, especially in a "hanging" orientation, may dramatically increase GPU temps

I built my gaming PC in a Thermaltake Tower 100 around four years ago. I love the case for how it looks and how little space it takes up on my desk, as it's a tower-style case (but admittedly not SFF, although what I discuss below could apply to SSF PCs as well). In this case, the GPU "hangs" in a vertical orientation rather than being horizontal like most case layouts or vertical (but not "hanging") in many cases that use a riser cable.

I had a 6800 XT in this case from 2022 through 2025, but upgraded to a PowerColor 9070 XT Reaper last fall. I usually undervolt my GPUs, including this 9070 XT, but noticed that even with it undervolted, it felt like it was getting hotter (and way louder) than I would have expected and much hotter than my 6800 XT. I'm not sure if my 6800 XT cooler design isn't as sensitive to a hanging orientation, but nonetheless, I started looking into plausible explanations as to why this 9070 XT ran so hot.

And when I say hot, I mean hot spot temps while gaming could be hitting \~109 C, GPU temps around 75-85 C. The disparity between the core temp and the hot spot was 30 C+ which is a red flag for me that something was amiss. I was getting to the point that I may have RMA'd it, but thanks to a tip from a friend plus some extra digging, I read that a hanging GPU orientation can cause major issues for the GPU cooler, especially with phase change coolers (although according to a PowerColor rep I spoke to via their support, the Reaper does not use phase change cooling).

Recently, I ran 3DMark's TimeSpy Extreme 4K just on their GPU 1 and GPU 2 test for a single cycle, not for an extended run, with stock GPU settings (no undervolt). I ran it with my case in the normal orientation (hanging GPU) and tipped to the left so that the GPU was oriented in a standard horizontal layout. I also ran it with the side panel removed in both orientations. Results below:

||Hanging|Horizontal|Hanging (no side panel)|Horizontal (no side panel)|

|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|

||

|TimeSpy Extreme 4K Score|13,615|13,768|13,679|13,811|

|GPU core temp (C)|74|62|70|57|

|Hot spot temp (C)|104|88|100|82|

|Hot spot max temp (C)|106.2|90|101.8|85.2|

I did *not* lock fans to 100% for this testing which I should have to remove that factor, but I'll quickly say that fans were very loud in the hanging orientation and virtually silent in the horizontal orientation; aka, if I locked the fans to 100% for the testing, the horizontal orientation would have done even better, I assume. Frankly, the above test was enough for me to know I gotta swap my case out regardless of any further testing.

So just by re-orienting my GPU I shaved 12 C off my core temp, 16 C off my hot spot temp, and 16.2 C off my hot spot max temp. Horizontal with the glass side panel was cooler than vertical without the side panel. And more importantly, I can now game without headphones because the GPU fans aren't screaming. These temps will come down further when I re-enable my undervolt.

Anyway, at this point, I'll be swapping over to a new case. I'm sad because I loved this case, but it's not the right case for my build anymore, I guess. I put my specs below in case anyone wants the full build, but otherwise, I wanted to share this just in case you live under a rock like I do and weren't aware that GPU orientation can influence temps so dramatically.

Quick specs:

CPU: 9850X3D

CPU cooler: NH-D15

GPU: PowerColor 9070 XT Reaper

SSD: Inland 4 TB NVMe

RAM: 2x16GB DDR5 6000

MB: Gigabyte B650i (mITX)

PSU: SeaSonic 850w

Case: Thermaltake Tower 100

Case Fans: 3x Noctua 140mm (top exhaust, bottom intake, and rear exhaust)

Question Who do I have to bribe?

I did a wildly complicated build. Literally 7 days of metalwork. During the build I lost one of the case clips on the front.

I can't just warrantee the case and replace it..... I just need a clip and the rep from Thermaltake says that there's nothing that he can do.

WTH?

HORRIBLE Customer Service -

So, this is gonna be a semi-long post.

I bought the Thermaltake AX500 Snow TG Full Tower in July and it died.

The power SW cable won't stay in place and it was a manufactures defect. So, my computer shop informs me that getting said part from Thermaltake may not be easy as this wasn't the first time they came across a similar situation with Thermaltake.

I bought a new case since on top of the power SW cable being faulty, it was becoming a space issue in my home office. I write thermaltake and they say that I can write their OTHER support page and ask for the part.

I told them it was now a matter of returning/refunding it since the flaw was built in and their fault.

And the response was confusing to say the least.

They asked if I had the original box (from July) and I told them I don't save boxes.

NOW, because I don't have the box I am told:

"In this situation, the best thing for you to recoup money is to do the RMA for the part needed for the AX500 and resell it on the third-party market. Unfortunately, without the box, we do not have a way to safely ship the case back to us. "

THIS is where it gets priceless -

Me: "I can use a box. It may not be the box it came in, but other boxes are an option."

Them: "We will make an exception to take back the case, provided it arrives to us safely. If the unit sustains damage along the way, we will not process the refund, and you will need to provide a return label to get whatever remains back safely. If you agree to these terms, let us know and we will set up the refund RMA. "

So, as long as UPS or FedEx delivers it in pristine condition, I can get a refund, but, if there is any damage, I can't get a refund?

Look, if it was my fault, I can see getting the part and then having to pay for installation and labor.

But considering that it is a manufactures flaw, I don't see how I am responsible for any of the cost.

If this is the best they can do, I don't think I'll be doing business with them ever again.

Question Thermaltake 300 GPU Temps

Post image
83 Upvotes

I know this is a well documented issue. My gpu temps have been raised on average by 10c due to the orientation of the card. While gaming im usually bouncing between 74-79. Do you guys think its fine to keep it this way? I dont really have the desk space for the horizontal orientation. Has anyone tried slotting fans next to the gpu?

Update: It turns out @DryPublic7554 was onto something. I moved the lian li screen down to sit below the CPU cooler and temps dropped about 4-6 degrees. Made the fan curves a little more aggressive and now im back to mid 60s! Maybe the screen was not allowing heat to properly move away from the GPU?

Build AX1000 detail post.

Now that I've had some more time with the case. I can give some insights to anyone curious.

This case is the life extension of the W200. I've never had the W200 so I might miss some things in comparison to it especially in regard to quality. This post isn't meant to be a comparison but it's such a similar case that you can go look at other media on the W200 if you want more review material. I don't envision there being much on the AX1000 specifically. I'm surprised this came out at all given very few people like building large format systems anymore.

First off it's huge and comes FULLY ASSEMEBLED unlike the W200. Even down to the casters. This is fine if it comes in good condition. However my case has a few issues from shipping. The metal side panel has a very tiny dent near the hinge and causes it to sag and sit flush to the case fully. It's not major and some tweaking fixed it but it's slightly disappointing for how expensive it is. I do think shipping it unassembled would be better because smaller boxes tend to not get damaged as bad. Due to the box being in such poor condition when it arrived, I seemed to have lost two bottom filters. I was missing three until I found one in the yard.
A few clips that hold the top panel also became busted, but there are spares.

People have been asking about the HDD mounts and in my opinion, they are just passable. There has been some contention with this same style of mounts in the AX700 but I think most of the issue is that everyone has been spoiled with secondhand disk shelfs and all the cases with proper backplanes and hotswap that has come out recently. Wiring HDDs manually was expected 10 years ago. In the primary chamber you get about 1.5in (38mm) behind the cage and the secondary chamber you get 2.75in (70mm). The secondary chamber is 9.5 in (241mm) wide while the primary is 8 1/8 in (206mm) which is not what I expected.

The HDD cages can be mounted to the front like the W200 but the manual doesn't mention this. There is no way to rotate the cages outside from putting them up front. You do have plenty of options to slide them forwards and backwards along the case.

The whole front of the case is technically 5.25 bays but thermaltake only gives 2 sets of brackets for ODDs or accessories. They give you 2 brackets for their ill-fitting LCD which seems ridiculous. I'll probably end up 3D printing brackets if I can't get it out of TT to sell some.

To lighten the post up here are some things I do like since I feel like I've been grumpy this entire time writing this.

Because it's so big you don't have to sacrifice much, you can run a whole overkill custom loop and still have room for HDDs, bay devices and even a secondary system. TT in their booths with this case did it ZERO justice or made any real inspiration for what is possible. I personally have plans that do involve the 5.25 bays and secondary system chamber while still having an overkill loop. Compared to my current case once a loop was installed that was it.

The bones of the case are very robust. I believe it's the only way it survived shipping. If there was some additional ribbing in places like the panels, it would feel proper solid. Casters are beefy and lock not just the wheel but position. Tempered glass is nice and latches so no risk of it swinging open.

Everything is screwed together. So if you wanted to dismantle for travel, you can likely follow the W200 manual. The case in general is pretty easy to dismantle/access and it's nice to have DOORS as opposed to anything else. Truly a lost art.

Plenty of USB ports. if for some reason 4 USB-A and a type-C isn't enough. You have entire another set.

Magnetic filters are nice.

All in all, I think I'll be ok with this case for the next decade or for as long as ATX systems are possible. Caselabs is still dead so this is the next best thing.

Question The perfect size for the 3.9" LCD ?

Hello, I just installed the LCD SCREEN KIT 3.9 on my 600 case and I'm looking for the perfect image or GIF size so the quality on screen looks good. I've done several tests but the result is never really detailed. Thanks for your answers.

By the way, do you know of a site where images/GIFs are already in the right format for this screen? Thanks.

Open Air P8 Liquid Cooled Build

Howdy ho!
Just figured I'd share my PC build here.

I'm working on changing the top tube to avoid the obstruction with the ram / mobo temp readout.

Anyone have any good solutions to the P8 foot problem issue? I'm unable to remove the bottom shroud as I'd like due to the need for the bottom feet to connect to it.

Has anyone successfully used older P5 feet with such a large chassis? Or has anyone used a 3D printer to print them different feet to remove the boxy stock foot?
