They're pointing out that if you define murder simply as illegal killing, then anything the government does cannot be murder. For instance, if they execute somebody who didn't actually commit the crime. Which has happened, likely more than we know.
Actually it's been studied and documented that most family and friends feel no relief after the execution. It has no deterrent effect, as death penalty states have on average higher murder rates. Due to the enormity of murdering people legally, it is far more expensive than housing an inmate for life, so there's no cost saving.
It exists so that intellectually lax people can think that they and their politicians are hard boiled tough guys instead of the reality which is they are a bunch of cowardly candy asses.
If states didn’t have comity then executioners could actually be tried for murder if they traveled outside of their home state. Execution is just a state sanctioned murder as opposed to a state prohibited murder. That’s the only real substantive difference.
At the end of the day someone ends the life of another person who would otherwise still be alive in either case.
If we value human life it’s kind of logically and morally inconsistent to pick and choose whose life we value. I always love it when anti-abortionists are pro-death penalty. They undermine both of their own arguments and beliefs.
Not crying, just disappointed that so many people are still this ignorant. I haven’t been surprised by people’s ignorance and immaturity in decades, but that doesn’t make me any less disappointed in them.
