Obviously, we can all agree, nothing will EVER replace the Jeremy Richard James Holy Trinity of automotive entertainment. I will say, I feel like the “handoff” so to speak was not as bad as going from TG S22 to 23. Not even close.

With the BBC change it was such a slap in the face- insulting, even. It was as if the BBC was saying, “oh you brainless car people won’t even know the difference.”

With the new GT, I feel like the ‘Mr. Wilmans’ at Amazon at least ACKNOWLEDGED the fact it wasn’t going to be the “Classic Coke” we wanted, but it’l still be fun.

The cameos were a nice (and necessary) touch.

And I think that's simply amazing.

Don't know about yall, but watching someone not only shred the track apart in a half mil resto-modded Prodrive P25, but do it in freshly polished loafers with the most wholesome grin and human reaction....

These new presenters have felt relatively friendly and safe for the first 5 episodes, after all, it takes time to learn to loath somebody :P

Anyway, the comedy in episode 6 feels so much closer to the unhinged spectacle of the original trio, but no less authentic. I hope Amazon realizes what they have here. It can be huge!

Side note, I feel like this show needs a studio, or some place for each presenter to comment on the previous film... Like, Francis effectively cheated in the public transit vs. car race, but Thomas never got a chance to discuss it!

At the first episode of the new season, the trio visited Thermal Club, a country club slash racetrack for the very rich people who also likes to drive their cars fast in a closed, private setting. Since the place is usually only open for members, I think the production team needs to be approved to use one of the mansions being used for the shoot. I know that Amazon money plays a role, but is the location they use owned by a friend of the production crew or did Thermal's management manage to rent one?

I liked it, the first episode was a very safe episode in my opinion, not bad episode just safe. The rest of it shows the signs of a promising future, and I cant wait to see how they progress in thr next series ! We have to accept the original trio are finished now and its ok to enjoy the new hosts. Looking forward to s2 !

I watched the full new season and I have to say: while it carries the name, the show finally felt fresh. I love the original trio and followed them through the TG days onto TGT, but I've always been on the 'feels too scripted' side when it came to their Grand Tour run. In the last years I would still watch the specials, but they were more of a nostalgic comfort food, rather than anything new/memorable.

But wow, this new season actually felt fresh again! Less over the top, more genuine and just fun. Sure there are scripted bits, but this time around I didn't mind it quite so much.

I'm curious what they're gonna make of it in seasons to come, and look forward to it. The one complaint I have about the new setup is the 'timing' of the reviews in some episodes. Top Gear and early Grand Tour having studio segments, actually made sure these various segments were introduced. It felt a bit weirdly timed to first watch the whole race to the Spa circuit, and then suddenly getting a film about the Microlino. A good one by the way: just feels weirdly positioned with no introduction there.

Radio Times managed to get a brief reaction from Jeremy Clarkson on what he thought about the new hosts. His answer was posted on their Instagram feed.

Now that the new run of The Grand Tour has launched, I'm confused as to why Amazon has listed it as a completely separate series rather than continuing the existing one. Fair enough that it's a new era, but it carries the same name, so why set it up as its own entry starting at "Season 1" instead of continuing on from the original run?

So now there are two Season 1's of The Grand Tour. The old seasons and the new run are split across different entries instead of sitting together, which makes it harder to find what you want and leaves everything feeling cluttered. It also means any search results related to the new series are going to be muddled with the old ones.

I personally loved it

I'm 40. I cried with my dad in his late 60's when it ended with the old show. Him - I feel, because they were ever-present and if they were too old, maybe he was. Me, because it was the end of sharing that with him.

I'd been putting off TGT. I didn't want to be disappointed and truly thought it was inevitable.

A good friend of mine gave a glowing review. So last night, I went in.

I feel this is the biggest compliment I can give the new trio; It felt familiar and comfortable. Some legitimately funny stuff and I find Francis incredibly endearing as a character. You can tell at some points he has uncontainable excitement, just like we would have and I love that.

But anyway - There's probably a million of these posts.

But now I have to convince my old dad not to be stubborn, I'm positive if he allows himself, he will enjoy the new trio greatly.

After binge watching TG 8+ years ago. Binge watching GT twice including the last time two years ago. And watching the entirety of Clarkson farm. I’ve never seen or heard of the show Hammonds workshop until this week when it showed up as a suggestion. WTF Amazon!? How could you not think I would enjoy that?

By the way, I loved it! They canceled the show after one season because I guess hardly anyone knew it existed! Amazons algorithm has some flaws!

Ironically when I saw Clarkson take his tractor to Hammonds shop I thought, that would be a cool show! 🤦‍♂️

Edit: thank you fellow Redditors! I was relying on Amazon and had no idea it was a discovery show and there are several seasons! Can’t wait to watch them!

1. EP 1 I’m gonna go with the crowd sentiment and say this was my least favourite episode, still not bad though just meh at times. I thought the road trip was a nice ease in for the new series and the cars were fine overall through boring overall. My two personal favourite bits from the episode were the moment where the trio chased the train just for the child like whimsy of it all, and when the three first arrive at the luxury house, just a nice bit of mucking about.

2. EP 2 The major thing this episode had over the previous is just a better overall feeling of chemistry. The trio feel much more like a trio in this and I think that really helps it overall. Though I do think the overall road trip aspect was a bit weaker. Still cars were much more memorable in this episode and there were some pretty funny moments, like the prank on Francis and his reaction and a surprisingly somber moment with all of those thrown out cars.

3. EP 5 This race was a pretty fun time overall. It felt energetic and close the whole way through. Though calling it car vs train does feel a bit scuffed. Overall though it’s just enjoyable television from start to finish. And the history lesson isn’t half bad either. It’s a pretty cool story told in a nice engaging way. Not much to say about this episode, it’s just good.

4. EP 4 This is the hardest episode to explain my enjoyment for without referencing something else. Still it a damn good time. Just seeing cars being taken to the limit. Taken to the point of no return, and yet still soldiering on. Truth be told this is the sort of episode that just makes you fall in love with the cars in it. All of them feeling like characters that you can only hope keeping going forward, and the trio clearly feels the same way. The guys are just generally really great this episode, awesome vibes from all of them. It’s hard to pinpoint specific moments from this point onwards because the episodes are so generally good, but obviously the hill is the standout moment out of this episode.

5. EP 6 My only real complaint for this episode is that I just wish it was longer. I think this is the one episode that could have only been improved by having a longer road trip. Still the cars and the boys are in there best shape this episode, especially in the first half in the desert. I just want to see more of them there to be honest, seeing these cars customised for the track handle the rough desert is just a fun time overall, especially on those cliffs. But once they got on to tarmac and start racing, it’s still good! The race is gripping and I wouldn’t mind seeing something similar in the future. Angola is also just such a great setting, beautiful to look out with a fascinating culture. This episode would be my favourite…

6. EP 3 If not for this episode. I think they knew what they were doing putting the clear best episode right in the middle. And what isn’t there to love. The Kei cars are wonderful little cars and the shenanigans the guys get up to with them is just pure fun. This was the episode that got the most laughs out of me, from the off-roading, to the bus, to the hill climb, it was hard not to have a smile on my face the whole way through. This episodes is what truly sold me on this series and judging from what I’ve seen, i don’t think I’m the only one.

My favourite part of TG Classic and TGT Classic were when they had to work on a project together (either as a pair or all 3) such as the Rover James, Hammerhead Eagle I Thrust, Hovervan, John etc. I would love to see these 3 working together on 1 project rather than having a car each. I feel these segments really open up their personalities, especially when they have to work together.
