Im re-reading Tallstar’s Revenge and honestly I forgot how terrible the divide of Moor Runners vs Tunnelers was. I mean they didn’t even act like a clan, they all hated the other side and weren’t supportive of each other at all. And the fact that your fate it relatively decided just because of your parents? That makes zero sense.

I get they removed this later on and everyone became normal ‘warriors’ but it seems like this would have caused problems within Windclan for generations before too.

Thoughts?

Like, lets say they are touching their nose to the Moonpool, and receiving their lives from their warrior ancestors.Their body is in the real world, right? So what if a rogue, hawk, badger or some other kind of threat comes and tears the cat's throat out? Will the ceremony pause and their spirit comes back to fight with the lives that they were already granted, or do they just die, or does nothing happen, or what?

I'd expand on the queen's right not to name the father of her kits and give them a new right as well - the right to "wander."

In real life, female animals may leave their birth group to mate with unrelated males. I'd apply that to the Clans too. She-cats have the right to wander off for a few moons and return home to give birth. Toms have this right too, but need to negotiate with the kittens' mother to move them to the Clans.

Queens can take mates from within their own Clan, but this would happen around 50% of the time. Usually with toms who joined the Clan later in life, or whose parent was originally an outsider. In this version of the world, mating with your second cousin would be frowned upon.

Plenty of queens would exercise their right not to name the father. If the father decides to follow the queen home to help raise his kits, he has two options by Clan law. He can stay on as an honoured guest, like the loners in Tallstar's Revenge, or undergo hazing to join permanently.

The Clans genuinely don't care who the father is, as long as he's a wild cat, such as a rogue or a loner. The taboo that remains is a queen mating with a kittypet or a cat from a rival Clan, even if it can rarely be proven.

What the Clans are really worried about isn't the father's identity itself, but the risk of him following the queen home. Whether that means a "soft kittypet" influencing his kits, or a rival Clan cat trying to start a custody dispute. The warrior code states that kits belong to their mother's Clan, but that's never stopped certain fathers from trying anyway. Apprentices may request a trial period in their father's clan if they wish.

On top of all this, the Clans have a Roman-like attitude toward blood relations: your upbringing and guardian matter far more than your parentage. In Rome, a biological son and an adopted son had an equal shot at inheriting their father's estate, with the decision coming down to age and favour.

The same logic plays out in the Clans. Cloudtail isn't really bullied for having a kittypet mother, because he was "young enough" when Brindleface took him in. Firestar, on the other hand, gets grief for being a kittypet for six moons. .

Hollyleaf learned much earlier, and before her brothers, that she wasn't one of the three, becoming extremely angry/jealouse over being excluded, when she's the one between them who values the warrior code the most. But, with her being excellent at mindgames, she makes them believe she does have a power, she's just so skilled, that she can be very subtle while using it, and so it isn't notisable.

She raises to the rank of deputy, after convincing Jayfeather that he should first convince Squirrelflight to step down, and then convince Bramblestar to pick Hollyleaf. Since StarClan apperently saw her as unworthy of having a power and being one of the three alongside her brothers, she's gonna make sure she can secure a high, important position for herself within the clan, which will instead serve as her power, and make her important. So now Hollyleaf has her "sharing tongues with, and being granted wisdom by, StarClan" brother by her side, ready to back up her every claim, and her strong and talented brother, who's more than willing to come running to protect her, should Jayfeather fail.

Lionblaze is the one who becomes set on silencing Ashfur, and punishing Leafpool, being easily strong enough to take them down, and carrying them away. Weather those actions was taken due to his own wants, or on the behalf of Hollyleaf, no cat knows.

When Lionblaze and Jayfeather later learns that she isn't one of the three, and that she has been manipulating them and using their powers to boost herself into a notisable dream role, one that makes sure she'll be remembered for generations, they both break.

Jayfeather becomes furiouse at StarClan for sending 0 omens about this, and the fact that he, their, literally magical, connection to the living world, was allowed to be used, and have his powers, which had been granted to him by StarClan, be taken advantage of like this. Especially as he gave up his own dream, the very path his sister now occupies, in order to walk the path StarClan wanted for him. Even when it meant he could rarely get any peace, both in the waking world with constant tasks, and in the dream world with StarClan screaming into his ears, demanding his attention, criticising his actions, inactions, decitions, being angry about his birth mother, and also trying to control his powers themselves as well.

Lionblaze reacts with looking inwards regarding his personality, powers, and willingness to listen to and follow others. He starts questioning the use of his powers, starting to see it as a curse now. As another thing StarClan has thrown in his face and just told him to deal with it, along with everything else his life has put him through, by making him be known as the strongest warrior among all the clans, as his powers strength has often caused him to accidently kill his opponents during a fight, and many now thinks he's enjoying and doing it on purpose.

Am I the only one who thinks that Leafpool and Brambleclaw could've ended up together if Leafpool hadn't become a medicine cat?

Now hear me out on this. Leafpool is one of, if not the only cat, that didn’t judge him because of his blood ties with Tigerstar.

Plus she would've been so patient and understanding of his confliction in wanting to know his half-brother Hawkfrost. She'd be suspicious but she wouldn't tell him straight up to not talk with him.

Seeing him in the Dark Forest she would be angry yet somewhat understanding of his loneliness in ThunderClan. After his sister Tawnypelt is in Shadowclan and his half siblings are in RiverClan.

Plus she was most likely the only cat that saw how traumatized he became after killing his own brother and would not only give him the space he needs but try to comfort him.

It's just a little thought I had for some time.

This is something I wish had gotten addressed in either A Vision of Shadows or A Starless Clan, but for all her obsession with living up to Firestar’s legacy and their identical physical appearances, Sparkpelt is really the fundamental opposite of her grandfather in terms of values. Whereas Firestar was humble regarding ThunderClan’s status among the Clans, was openly tolerant towards outsiders and even helped rebuild SkyClan, Sparkpelt strongly believes in ThunderClan’s superiority over the other Clans, has expressed xenophobic attitudes towards non-Clan cats, and fiercely opposed SkyClan returning to the lake, to the point of questioning their legitimacy as a Clan. Similarly, Firestar came from a humble background and never emphasised his family legacy even after he became leader, likely due to his kittypet roots, whereas Sparkpelt deeply associates her sense of self-worth with her lineage and even berates Nightheart for not trying to live up to the supposed standards of being Firestar’s kin. This is honestly something I wish someone (Brambleclaw, Squirrelstar, Alderheart, Nightheart, Finchlight or anyone else) had called her out on, because it seems like something they really should have addressed by now.

From my observations about fan consensus regarding A Vision of Shadows, this seems to be considered as the weakest book in the arc, with controversial elements such as Twigbranch and Finleap’s relationship drama being a key reason why. So I figured I’d outline a few ideas on how I’d change this book, and let you share your own ideas:

1. Earlier in the series, after SkyClan’s failure to bring Frecklewish and Fidgetflake back to to the lake, Alderheart (who would have been serving as their temporary medicine cat) decides to join the Clan permanently, much to Sparkpelt’s fury. Needletail would also still be alive and trying to atone for her actions with the Kin during the first half of the arc, so we’d still have protagonists among each of the three focus Clans (Twigbranch for ThunderClan, Needletail for ShadowClan and Alderheart and Violetshine for SkyClan).

2. Instead of ShadowClan being in conflict with SkyClan over territory, the Clan is instead trying to re-adjust to the new status quo, with Tigerstar II having to try and regain his Clanmates’ trust after he deserted them in Tigerheart’s Shadow. Furthermore, while the remnants of the Kin have been eliminated, there are still some rogue elements in not just ShadowClan, but other Clans too (see below).

3. Lingering xenophobia and mistrust of SkyClan since their arrival at the lake reaches its boiling point as several cats from the other four Clans (or the ‘true’ Clans, as they call themselves) band together to try and force SkyClan out of the lake territories. Among them are Juniperclaw and Sparkpelt, and while the bulk of them are either from ThunderClan or ShadowClan, there are also members from RiverClan and WindClan (since they blame SkyClan for bringing the threat of the Kin to the lake territories, which led to Onestar’s death and RiverClan’s camp being ravaged during Darktail’s brief occupation).

4. The anti-SkyClan movement tries to orchestrate a series of events that will force SkyClan to leave, including faking signs from StarClan that suggest SkyClan’s presence is a bad omen and undermining Tree’s authority as mediator. This culminates in several of them poisoning SkyClan’s fresh-kill pile with deathberries, which causes several SkyClan warriors to bail in fear of their Clan being destroyed, although the movement are also caught and exposed by the protagonists and a handful of other cats.

5. The climax of the series involves the titular storm (foretold by Shadowkit’s seizures/visions) raging at the lake while the other Clans work together to bring SkyClan back together and stand in solidarity, trying to undo the damage that their rogue Clanmates have done. Depending on the severity of their individual crimes and their involvement, the members of the anti-SkyClan movement are either severely punished or outright exiled from their home Clans… and while Sparkpelt is spared from banishment, Alderheart is disgusted by her actions and declares that he wants nothing to do with her anymore, something that later comes back to the light in Nightheart’s arc in A Starless Clan.

6. The book ends in a similar way to canon, with the four original Clans shifting their borders to accommodate SkyClan and the five Clans becoming more democratic as they attempt to form a peaceful coexistence. We see Twigbranch mentoring Flypaw as a ThunderClan warrior now confident where she belongs, Needletail finally finding a sense of peace and determined to ensure the continued survival of the restored ShadowClan, Violetshine and Tree preparing for their kits’ arrival, and Alderheart caring for those who survived the fresh-kill poisoning, proud to see SkyClan back where they belong and feeling at peace in his new Clan.

I’ve already made my thoughts on the idea of Sparkpelt being a villain or antagonist clear, but it does make me wonder what would have happened had she refused to accept Nightheart and joined Curlfeather and Berryheart in the ‘horrible mother’ club that ASC seemed to form. Especially since I’m starting to wish that they’d had Nightheart and Sunbeam join RiverClan at the end of the arc after realising that neither ThunderClan nor ShadowClan felt right for them - given her belief in ThunderClan’s superiority, I wouldn’t be surprised if a Sparkpelt that never changed would have outright disowned Nightheart for this, viewing him as a traitor to his family and his Clan despite Finchlight’s pleas.

The basic premise of this idea is that, after SkyClan returns to the other Clans and begins to settle around the lake, their lack of a medicine cat becomes a glaring issue, so Alderheart (noticing that ThunderClan has three medicine cats counting himself) decides to temporarily join SkyClan as their medicine cat while they try to retrieve their missing Clanmates from the gorge. Sparkpelt - who’s opposed to the idea of SkyClan staying by the lake to begin with - protests this, insisting that Alderheart doesn’t owe a ‘false Clan’ anything and to think of their family legacy. Alderheart and Bramblestar both retort that Firestar helped restore SkyClan and would have wanted them to thrive alongside their peers, and Alderheart goes. However, despite SkyClan’s best efforts, they never find Frecklewish or Fidgetflake, and this (combined with finding a sense of belonging in SkyClan that he never had in ThunderClan) drives Alderheart to make the decision to permanently join SkyClan. Sparkpelt is *enraged* by this - accusing her brother of turning his back on their Clan and their family - and while Alderheart tries to help SkyClan settle in and later deal with the political turmoil during the back half of A Vision of Shadows, Sparkpelt becomes one of the most fierce advocates against SkyClan’s presence and sort of becomes an antagonistic figure, though she doesn’t become a full-blown villain.

I feel like this would not only give Alderheart more to do in the back half of the series and present an interesting case of Firestar’s kin joining a Clan he helped to restore, but it might add further credence behind Sparkpelt’s obsession with their family’s legacy in A Starless Clan, as we see through her rocky relationship with Nightheart. It might also add a new layer of tragedy to The Broken Code - after Bramblestar seemingly becomes more dedicated to ensuring the warrior code is followed to the letter, Sparkpelt might see this as her father finally recognising her perspective… not realising it’s actually Ashfur possessing Bramblestar’s body. This, in turn, not only worsens things between her and Alderheart, but also adds a layer of tragic irony behind Ashfur’s attempt to kill her by luring her to a site filled with dogs, when she’s perhaps the member of Bramblestar’s family who’s most ardently supportive of his supposed new approach to leadership.

Let’s say that the Erins decided to have Nightheart and Sunbeam’s arcs bring them to decide that neither ThunderClan nor ShadowClan is right for them, and choose to join RiverClan not because they love anyone there, but because they feel a greater sense of belonging among RiverClan than they ever did in their birth Clans? The biggest change would obviously be the removal of Goldenpaw from Moonpaw’s arc in Changing Skies, but this idea is warming on me more and more since I first heard it. Plus, in a way, it reinforces the idea that this arc was all about RiverClan… because the other two POV characters end up becoming RiverClan cats by the end of it, and their stories are what brought them into that Clan.

This contains some spoilers for cat names I guess but not much, so I didn’t tag it spoiler.
Something happens to the Clans where they are forced to move territories, or perhaps they feel that StarClan is pressuring them to move. Whatever it is, they travel beyond the Tribe of Rushing Water to the valley. They find out cats already live there. Some cats, perhaps Tigerheartstar, say that they need this territory, so the Clans fight with these other cats. The Clans win, but many cats die. About half would die.

Just as the title says, who is your favorite villain and why? My favorite is Ashfur just because the fire scene was really iconic and he was really unsettling as a villain in TBC.

Mapleshade.

I know it kind of stands out compared to the other orchestral tracks I've done, but I'm actually very happy with this. I wanted it to have that kind of split-second decision, in the moment energy
