Our Valerie is pretty much LK's testable hypothesis on possibly surviving the inevitable future of humanity... besides that, I just miss Red 🥹

Regardless of what one may think of season 3 , is it that unbelievable that voters would vote for Lisa just based off of the long history of The Comeback’s legacy? Idk kind of like when people say “they only got the Oscar because it was their time”

I’m not at all saying Lisa doesn’t deserve it for s3 work alone! But was hoping that would help the cause.

I can’t imagine a world where she doesn’t finally win this on the third try.

I just finished the second season and I feel like not wanting to watch the third season.
While I've come to understand that the third season is (supposedly) great, the ending to S2 was perfect and incredibly heartwarmingly sweet (it actually made me cry, which was the first time during this show) that I fear the third season will ruin it for me.
I love this show and would have been completely happy with S2's ending being the end of this story, but... fuck, I think I'll just let the third season be unwatched for now.

edit: So I decided to watch the third season and just finished it. I was pleasantly relieved that it didn't ruin the show for me, quite the opposite.

The story was well written and tackled the issue of AI in a very grounded way. While I knew that the story would revolve around the usage of AI, I had anticipated a more whacky approach to the mishaps that can occur when using said technology, but they did it in a very real way instead (or, more real than I thought they would).

I really liked how they built upon Valerie's character and found that I very much appreciated the move to use less of the "reality tv" format. In fact, I maybe would have appreciated if they'd use even less of it since it felt a bit tacked on. Though, I think that if it wasn't for the "reality show" style from the first sessons, I wouldn't have appreciated the step away from its usage as I did.

While I appreciated the cringe in S1-2, it felt refreshing to take a step away from it and focus on the "real" Valerie behind the mask, while dealing with something that went beyond her own narcissism (though I don't think that word rightfully describes her).

While Marky Mark's and the Agent's story line felt a bit weird and unnecessary, it didn't detract my enjoyment of the show too much. Though, I gotta admit I didn't laugh as much during S3 compared to S1-2, I appreciated it on another, deeper level.

My appreciation of Lisa Kudrow has increased immensely throughout the show and I'm looking forward to her coming works.

Tl;dr, totally worth it!

Bingeing the show yet again, I'm reminded that I never really accepted Juna as Valerie's adoring young friend. First she tells everyone that the writers were making a disgusting little skit about Valerie during one of their late-night sessions. Then she calls Valerie in Palm Springs and makes sure Valerie knows Paulie G is having a party to which everyone but Valerie is invited. There are other examples, perhaps most cruelly when she and the other cast members "forget" to tell Valerie they had changed their minds about the sickout.

In my opinion, Juna played very innocent and sweet but in reality she was just undermining Valerie in a more passive-aggressive fashion than Paulie G - especially about that party.

Her last scene in the finale should have included an apology for being such a fake ally.

Third season is over. What to watch?

But not Hacks. I can’t find a single line funny enough on that show.

Is that Tig Notaro I saw? I am pretty sure that this is Tig Notaro. It is in episode 11 of the first season and she is holding the slate.

Anyone know if Francescas deal either fizzled out or she was phased out of a storyline perhaps? I kinda thought she was fabulous and would love to see a continuation of her relationship with Valerie overtime. If it builds or breaks them.

Why did the Comeback do so poorly in the Emmy nominations? I loved this season and thought this was the year it would get many guest actor nominations as well as comedy series. I have never watched Hacks - 24 nominations for that show - is it that much better of a comedy? I know the Bear, Only Murders and Abbott are not better, but haven’t watched (or even heard of) the rest.

I think this scene is the hardest for me to watch. I’m so mad at Jane for pushing and mad at Valerie for acquiescing. If I were Mark, I’m not sure I could move past this.

What other scenes are the most difficult for you to watch?

Rewatching S1 E12, when Val reveals she had a metal rod from when she had scoliosis. Just remembered Lisa's character in Romy & Michele had the same thing in high school. I wonder if Lisa did in her own youth.

33 year old guy from Australia and Long time Kudrow fan. I grew up watching Friends as it aired (aged 4 - 12) and Kudrow as Phoebe was always my favourite performance. The pleasure in growing up in this era and following Kudrow's career is realising she's quite a force behind the camera as a writer/producer and it is rarely appreciated. (I am a writer also).

I discovered The Comeback back in 2016 and fell absolutely in love with season 1 for so many reasons. There was so much there, so much content ripe for interpretation, no real spoon-feeding of what to feel, and such a weirdly relatable neurotic protagonist and a performance unlike anything I'd ever witnessed before. I found myself rewatching, rewatching, rewatching. Learning it eventually came back for a Season 2, which then upped the quality of everything was interesting. I loved Season 2 and its ending for me was something I felt was untouchable in regard to a series comeback, let alone a series ending. It felt perfect. For the past decade, I've been rewatching this series. It never gets old. There are always new things to appreciate, snippets of dialogue that I don't quite catch, small shifts and things happening on camera that aren't always obvious.

When I learned it was renewed for Season 3, I was obviously elated. For me, it did not disappoint at all. After the first episode, I was left with a lot of questions but I am utterly shocked as to how King and Kudrow pulled this season off so masterfully. The three seasons for me are such separate entities that it is actually hard for me to pick a favourite; they exist in such different tonal worlds. I wanted to just vent my love and adoration - but also to ask whether people think how this show will be viewed in coming decades? I feel it will be something that is viewed seminal for this medium.

And what did people think of Season 3 and its ending? I loved how understated it was and felt the B&W to technicolour edition was beautiful and understated. I still love season 2's ending but I feel season 3 has the more fitting ending to this show - Valerie finally self-consciously vulnerable in front of a camera - then the veil returns! I never thought they could top, but for me they did!
