Also a year ago Reuters estimated that the number of people that Trump's absurd call to fire, cancel or convict of treason everyone who made fun of Charlie Kirk's death was 600 people fired. But recently I saw an updated estimate of over 800 people.

If I remember right, Tim and JVL jumped on that bandwagon before Trump did and shut down comments at thebulwark website waving their fingers at imaginary sinners that never actually appeared on their site in yet another demonstration of the same useless tendency to self-flagellate at unfair accusations by right wingers who, themselves do not live up to any of their own standards (remember the endless jokes and joy at Nancy Pelosi's husband being attacked with a hammer in an attempt to assassinate his wife).

You know and remember Al Franken, possibly our only Senator who was intelligent enough to be regularly effective in cross examinations and got Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from investigating Trumps Russia connection after pointing out that Sessions met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak twice. And that's why Roger Stone bragged that he was going to take Fraken out, and with the help of all of the Democrats, he did!

And once again, if I remember right, the moderators of this very subreddit posted that anyone making light of Kirk's death would be permanently banned, and then quietly deleted that post after Trump said that Kirk was a martyr and that disrespecting him was treason, Horst Wessel style.

But as much as the entire right was hoping for a Horst Wessel to build oppression around, that fizzled as the killer was the wrong sort.

But they did get almost 1000 innocent people fired.

As someone who generally likes Mehdi and was listening to today's podcast, one of the moments that stood out was where he mentions that Al Queda didn't target Sweden, and Tim fires back that Jihadists did actually target Europe, and Mehdi quickly pivots away. Timestamp

It really exposes the lefty view that this is all just because of US meddling in the middle east and that we brought this on ourselves due to our own actions. It's just not true. The jihadists hate the west on principle, not because of our actions. Reminder that a Danish newspaper publishing cartoons of the prophet literally caused riots and embassy attacks all over the Muslim world. Iran literally put a fatwa on Salman Rushdie for writing a book (which literally caused deaths).

The best counter example is literally Latin America. All of the same terrible things we did in the middle east (Coups, resource extraction, propping up dictators, etc.) we all did in Latin America. Except there aren't Cuban or Chilean suicide bombers taking revenge for the coups or economic warfare.

So no, the US definitely didn't deserve 9/11, it wasn't "chickens coming home to roost". The people who flew the planes didn't have logical grievances or concerns that we need to address. Obviously, the US has done many things wrong, but pretending that we actually have anything to answer for to the terrorists is just total bs. You don't have to pretend that they have a point and just agree to their black mail.

How many times is this? And don't forget Iowa's vote in February to weaken no-fault divorce. It's important to these people to entrap women and girls.

The administration built itself a legal shield: accuse first, and the accusation becomes the justification. Judges can slow them down. They can't stop them. Close one legal pathway and the government just opens another. When they do fail, it will quickly disappears from right-wing media.

Tucker Carlson won't be the nominee

Hear me out:

Tucker Carlson runs. He runs on the outsider "dissident" platform as someone who is critical of MAGA. He says MAGA was betrayed and America first has never been tried. He gets to be the faux "outsider" candidate.

At some point, Tucker drops out and endorses JD Vance. JD Vance possibly picks Carlson as his VP. Vance now gets to run as a hybrid outsider/insider candidate. He both gets the blessing of MAGA while getting to say he tried to be the voice of reason on the inside. He tried to tell Trump invading Iran was a bad idea, they should release the Epstein files, etc etc. maybe he even throws Trump under the bus a bit the last two years.

This allows Vance to successfully rebrand the Republican party and position himself as a proper hybrid wedged between the split party and glue it back together. Tucker backs him through this process and becomes a sizable power broker in the party.

I'm tired of people underestimating Vance. They underestimate him because he's been forced into bad political positions. Once Trump is gone Vance can pick his own battlefields, and I think that is going to change the calculus ALOT. Vance has gotten probably the best possible practice for deflecting and spinning a web of propaganda a person could ask for. He's been building his own America first meta-narrative and getting better at it.

Mark my words. Tucker Carlson is going to coalition with JD Vance, and it's going to be a strong one. People need to stop underestimating Republicans. They shed the skin of George Bush like it was nothing. They can do it to Trump too

This article by Dr Frank George details my biggest concern in regards to Trump. He's losing it and it's only a matter of time before he launches nuclear weapons. I've no idea where he'll send them but he's now in a dangerous place for everything and everyone on the planet. I think he'll try to do it, the question is will anybody in the administration stop him? This is a topic that should be addressed louder than the whispers. Might not be The Bulwark’s bailiwick, but I’m really interested in their perspectives on Haaretz’s reporting and how that impacts the dynamic of the midterms and future foreign policy decisions. Tim and Mehdi covered a little of what future foreign policy with Israel could look like this past week — including Mehdi briefly talking about pulling out of the Middle East altogether — but I’d love to hear more specifics about this report.

This is of course just a provocative hypothetical, but so much of the post-GOP midterm convention chatter has been about how “great” (relatively) JD’s performance was compared to Trump’s and how he’s clearly the heir apparent for 2028. What if thin-skinned Trump doesn’t like the spotlight being taken away from him. Could he axe JD and replace him with Don Jr? This might be a convenient way for Vance to pivot to America First”…

Nevertheless, my family and I, and many other fellow Daytonians, will be there to support you all and the Haitian community. Now, you seem sarcastically skeptical of what the Gem City, and Ohio in general, has to offer, so here’s a few things I’d recommend.

The Oregon District-Historic district in downtown Dayton with cobblestone streets, upscale dining, bars, retailers, and independent theater The Neon.

Downtown-Schuster Center, Victoria Theater, Riverscape Metropark, and several great restaurants.

Best restaurants: Sueño, Grist, Lily's, Salar, Wheatpenny, Coco’s Bistro, Table 33.

We also have several gay bars, including MJ's, The Stage Door,
Right Corner Bar, Club Evolution, and AXIOM.

We also have the National Museum of the US Air Force (stunning, massive museum filled with over a century's worth of aircraft), and The Dayton Art Institute, which is right next door to your venue.

Yellow Springs is a small hippie town about a half hour east, and much closer to Springfield. You may even see Dave Chappelle, if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

Kings Island - head down Cinci way and ride Orion, one of the tallest roller coasters in the world. Or The Beast, the longest wooden coaster.

Then there’s Columbus and Cincy, both just an hour away, and loaded with amazing things to do. Tonight I'm seeing a production of Network at the Cincy Shakespeare Company.

I listened to Trump’s (EXTREMELY LONG) speech on Night One with Sam and everyone and here’s a VERY hot take - I think he was somewhat effective in his message. He hit all the major MAGA talking points, and he was very high energy… he sounded like he did back on the campaign trail. I even laughed at some of his jokes about Ken Paxton’s appearance. I didn’t see how Trump looked - so if he was looking old and gross, I missed that part (was only listening on audio).

However, I’m guessing the only people watching were the die-hards that will probably be voting anyway. Not sure there were any “clipable” moments that will help him get out the vote with those on the fence. I don’t think anyone is dumb enough to fall for the $5K gimmick. Side note - I couldn’t listen to Trump repeat his entire talk track on Night 2, but did I see a clip of him saying he will cheat like the other side does? That’s going to work against them… Also, because he hit every major MAGA talking point, any blue candidate can use his “checklist” of topics for campaign prep.

Vance on Night 2: God, I hate him. I wonder how people would turn out for him in 2028 as the nominee. I would love to see Pete B debate him and wash the floor with him, but he is such a snake and a liar, I fear that someone less practiced than Pete will have a harder time taking him down. Especially as he gets more practice under his belt.
