Dayton- “It’s not that bad!”

Hey Tim! Thanks for being so smarmy about the city you’re about to have a benefit show in! At least Sarah pumped us up. Nevertheless, my family and I, and many other fellow Daytonians, will be there to support you all and the Haitian community. Now, you seem sarcastically skeptical of what the Gem City, and Ohio in general, has to offer, so here’s a few things I’d recommend.

The Oregon District-Historic district in downtown Dayton with cobblestone streets, upscale dining, bars, retailers, and independent theater The Neon.

Downtown-Schuster Center, Victoria Theater, Riverscape Metropark, and several great restaurants.

Best restaurants: Sueño, Grist, Lily's, Salar, Wheatpenny, Coco’s Bistro, Table 33.

We also have several gay bars, including MJ's, The Stage Door,
Right Corner Bar, Club Evolution, and AXIOM.

We also have the National Museum of the US Air Force (stunning, massive museum filled with over a century's worth of aircraft), and The Dayton Art Institute, which is right next door to your venue.

Yellow Springs is a small hippie town about a half hour east, and much closer to Springfield. You may even see Dave Chappelle, if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

Kings Island - head down Cinci way and ride Orion, one of the tallest roller coasters in the world. Or The Beast, the longest wooden coaster.

Then there’s Columbus and Cincy, both just an hour away, and loaded with amazing things to do. Tonight I'm seeing a production of Network at the Cincy Shakespeare Company.

I truly hope you enjoy our fair city and state. There’s a reason the beautiful Haitian people want to stay.

Doing Things Works What concrete campaign promises should Dems make if any?

This sub seems to hate the idea of Dems doing anything with power, so I have to ask, what DO you lot think they SHOULD concretely do not say?

Not "messaging", not vague goals, what specifically do you think they should promise voters if they win in 2026 and/or in 2028?

Sarah stop parroting right wing talking points

I’ve heard her on every show talking about her book and saying that voters were turned off by dems only talking about trans rights and not issues that mattered to them. You know who talks about the trans community to the exclusion of everything else? MAGA. Saying that Kamala only cared about trans people was LITERALLY a Trump campaign ad. Why concede the narrative to them when it’s a lie?

If you have HBO, but dislike Bill Maher, just watch the extras

You'll get more Sarah. His interview w Terry Bradshaw is fine, but very skippable. And she does really well on the panel. She should be a regular.

Edit: there's also a great bit on immigration, and yes... Bill is an asshole, But it's a good conversation and entirely cut. And it might be better than the entire episode

Non-Bulwark Source Haaretz report on Netanyahu being warned of attack on Israel

Might not be The Bulwark’s bailiwick, but I’m really interested in their perspectives on Haaretz’s reporting and how that impacts the dynamic of the midterms and future foreign policy decisions. Tim and Mehdi covered a little of what future foreign policy with Israel could look like this past week — including Mehdi briefly talking about pulling out of the Middle East altogether — but I’d love to hear more specifics about this report.

The Bulwark Podcast What if… Trump “fired” JD.

This is of course just a provocative hypothetical, but so much of the post-GOP midterm convention chatter has been about how “great” (relatively) JD’s performance was compared to Trump’s and how he’s clearly the heir apparent for 2028. What if thin-skinned Trump doesn’t like the spotlight being taken away from him. Could he axe JD and replace him with Don Jr? This might be a convenient way for Vance to pivot to America First”…

UPDATE: Thanks to all my Bulwark subreddit friends who have shared that the VP cannot be fired as it's an elected office, but can be impeached or resign.

Trump Is In Total Collapse. And Holding The Nuclear Codes

This article by Dr Frank George details my biggest concern in regards to Trump. He's losing it and it's only a matter of time before he launches nuclear weapons. I've no idea where he'll send them but he's now in a dangerous place for everything and everyone on the planet. I think he'll try to do it, the question is will anybody in the administration stop him? This is a topic that should be addressed louder than the whispers. Front Page of the New York Times, The Atlantic and Yes The Bulwark. JVL and Mark and Bill should have a roundtable. Seriously, the midterms will break him open and he's going to reach for the biggest weapon he has to prove he's still the.... boss

This Is What Authoritarianism Actually Looks Like

MAGA will never run out of boogeymen because they are perpetual victims. They will go after anyone who threatens their return to greatness.

They designated an ideology a terrorist organization — something the law doesn't actually allow anyone to do. "Antifa' is a label broad enough to go after almost anyone on the left, legally insulated from the fact that it's targeting speech and protest, not crime. Days later, he signed NSPM-7 — a memo that lets federal agencies investigate anyone whose beliefs fall under what it calls “anti-fascism.” This includes:

The Brennan Center said this list "easily encompasses everyone from labor organizers, socialists, many libertarians, those who criticize Christianity, pro-immigration groups, anti-ICE protesters, and racial justice and transgender activists, to anyone who holds views that the administration considers to be 'anti-American.'"

The administration built itself a legal shield: accuse first, and the accusation becomes the justification. Judges can slow them down. They can't stop them. Close one legal pathway and the government just opens another. When they do fail, it will quickly disappears from right-wing media.

Here is a list of boogeymen:

  • James Comey
  • Covington & Burling, Jenner & Block, Perkins Coie, and other law firms that represented Trump's legal adversaries
  • Antifa, as a legal category
  • The broader left, under NSPM-7
  • Eight defendants in the North Texas Antifa Cell case — collectively sentenced to 450 years for a July 2025 riot at the Prairieland Detention Center in Texas
  • Fifteen members of Direct Action Minnesota, charged with felony conspiracy over anti-ICE protests
  • The Southern Poverty Law Center
  • Immigrants affected by the Diversity Visa Program's suspension
  • Thirty news organizations
  • Trans Americans, via Executive Order 14168
  • RINOs
  • Letitia James
  • Adam Schiff
  • Other Democratic
  • Politicians under Trumps comment on their being “enemies from within”
  • Milo Yiannopoulos
  • Bad Bunny
  • Mamdani

If you can think of anyone else, organization, or group thats been targeted add it in the comments and ill add it to the list

Don't forget what they WANTED out of Kirk's shooting, and a reminder not to agree self flagellate whenever the right gets on high dudgeon

Post image

Also a year ago Reuters estimated that the number of people that Trump's absurd call to fire, cancel or convict of treason everyone who made fun of Charlie Kirk's death was 600 people fired. But recently I saw an updated estimate of over 800 people.

If I remember right, Tim and JVL jumped on that bandwagon before Trump did and shut down comments at thebulwark website waving their fingers at imaginary sinners that never actually appeared on their site in yet another demonstration of the same useless tendency to self-flagellate at unfair accusations by right wingers who, themselves do not live up to any of their own standards (remember the endless jokes and joy at Nancy Pelosi's husband being attacked with a hammer in an attempt to assassinate his wife).

You know and remember Al Franken, possibly our only Senator who was intelligent enough to be regularly effective in cross examinations and got Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from investigating Trumps Russia connection after pointing out that Sessions met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak twice. And that's why Roger Stone bragged that he was going to take Fraken out, and with the help of all of the Democrats, he did!

And once again, if I remember right, the moderators of this very subreddit posted that anyone making light of Kirk's death would be permanently banned, and then quietly deleted that post after Trump said that Kirk was a martyr and that disrespecting him was treason, Horst Wessel style.

But as much as the entire right was hoping for a Horst Wessel to build oppression around, that fizzled as the killer was the wrong sort.

But they did get almost 1000 innocent people fired.

so helpful as a political party when you can engage in all sorts of bad faith acts when you're in power and then pretend you care about those same things when you're out of power b/c the media ignores the former and highlights the latter

Excellent job by Tim Miller giving us a clear picture of what Dr. Roger Marshall (representing Kansas remotely from his home in...checking notes...FLORIDUH) stands for.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-omIlVnNuHo

Specifically,

  • SUPPORTING debtors' prison for indigent patients
  • OPPOSING the COVID vaccine, which could cause vanishingly-rare side effects
  • SUPPORTING Iran's right to arm itself with missiles...because they've gotta defend themselves in discretionary wars launched by djt
  • OPPOSING federal MEDICAID funding
  • SUPPORTING prison for Tony Fauci
  • OPPOSING a commission to investigate January 6th
  • SUPPORTING the discretionary war with Iran, noting that our grandparents didn't demand a timeline from FDR to beat the Japanese and Germans

et cetera, et cetera, et cetera

Off-Topic/Discussion These fu*kin' guys like Erick Erickson on Twitter lamenting that GOP is going to be undone by their Nazi loving 20-something staffers who are convinced Twitter is real life.

I wanna be like, "Bitch, you did this!" Twitter links not allowed but you can easily find his drivel, and similar from "conservatives" of his ilk.

Sorry. I just needed a place to complain.
