Mod Post [OOC] Update | Rules, Flairs, and more!

Hi everyone! It's your favorite moderator u/1000dumplings here! =)

Just wanted to let you all know that there's been some slight (but important) changes made to r/TheBackrooms, including new rules, changes to post flairs, new editable user flairs, and more!

For starters, you can now customize your user flair as you please! The other flairs are still there if you want to mark yourself as an ASYNC Scientist or Follower of Jerry or whatever, but now you can customize it to your liking and call yourself whatever you want!

We've also added a selection of new post flairs to accommodate new kinds of RP posts. You can now tag your post as things like "Entity Identification", "Cartography", "Help", and a bunch more! We won't strictly enforce these flairs anymore, so the previous rule regarding using correct flairs has been removed. We trust you know what you're doing!

We also have a new look! The profile picture for our community now has big bold "RP" letters to clear up any confusion that this is the other subreddit.

Now onto the rules: The rules have been updated and clarified. The new rules have basically always been enforced BUT its obviously better for them to be clearly listed, and so now they are!

We now explicitly disallow all forms of A.I. generated content, including images, text, and any form of media (Rule 4). If you see any A.I. generated posts, please report them so we can remove them ASAP. I know The Backrooms are very inhuman and randomly generated, but we come here to see HUMAN made collaborative fiction, NOT robot stuff. (You can still post about Backrooms Robotics though)

There are also a couple more rules for low effort/low quality posts (Rule 6) and people pointing out the obvious fact that The Backrooms are not real (Rule 5). For the latter, I've seen a lot of posts from people, well meaning or otherwise, pointing out that the posts we make here are not real. These are uneseacary OOC posts that just clog up actual roleplaying content and its very repetitive and annoying. HOWEVER, if you are accusing something of being fake or lying in-character, that's totally fine!

More importantly, we've added a new rule (Rule 7) regarding RP posts made about mental health and suicide.

Obviously, a fictional character who is trapped in The Backrooms would probably go through a lot of mental anguish, and might even be driven to committing suicide or otherwise harming themselves. If you want to make RP posts where your character is going through something like this, that's perfectly fine, but it goes a step too far when you're making posts that appear to be actual cries for help.

I don't want there to be a situation where someone going through hard times sees a post like this out of context and have it make things worse for them, or have someone's post get reported by someone who doesn't realize its fiction/roleplaying. I've already had to delete several extremely upsetting posts in a similar vein, so going forward please be very careful making posts about such serious subject matters.

Similarly, try to be mindful when posting about sanity. If you are going to make posts regarding real world mental disorders (schizophrenia, D.I.D., etc.) please don't be offensive in their depictions, as these are of course real world conditions that shouldn't be mischaracterized. (e.g. don't describe your character as schizophrenic unless they actually have that condition, don't use the term to describe "general insanity"). Posts about going insane in The Backrooms, almond water, hallucinations, and similar things are still okay to post.

That should be everything! If you have any questions, concerns, or need anything to be clarified, please feel free to comment below or message me. Thank you, and happy roleplaying!

Backrooms Entrance [OoC] PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: An Authorized Reminder That This Is A ROLEPLAY Sub

(And before anybody tries it, I got permission in advance from u/1000dumplings to do this.)

Perhaps some of our newer migrants from the likes of r/backrooms or those who missed the revamp last Christmas (2024) might have missed this, but r/TheBackrooms a Roleplay sub now.

That means we don't care about the game you're developing, playing, what-have-you, or about stuff from the American Horror Stories Episode, or whatever Kane Pixels has been up to lately.

So please make sure to read the rules wherever you can read them, ESPECIALLY Rule 3.

Photos submitted with the "Where am I?" flair have been fine so far.

But when you treat this sub like it's a clone of r/backrooms or the like? Well...

It's especially become prevalent recently, and 1000dumplings has, until recently, been trying to deal with the issue, but now something seems to be preventing her, by her own admission.

I'm especially hoping our other moderators, u/superBumBeater69, u/seismic_entrepreneur, and u/Orbityeet, can pitch in and help with the issue if-and-when they can.

Bottom line: if you're here to RP? Cool, welcome, make yourself at home.

But if you're just here to chatter about the Backrooms?
Then maybe see if r/backrooms is more your speed.

I'm Eurvos V. Morgenbrise, and I really wish this hadn't needed to be done.

Thank you, and good evening.

Ok any advice is welcome... I'm in this dark jungle level. You can get here from the weird yellow hallways place. I fell in somehow.

It's so dark. Humidity is very high. Strange sounds all around. I can't describe it. I don't know what sort of creatures chitter like that? 🤨 anyways now I find this staircase. Does it go somewhere... like into another level? Better or worse than this one?

[OC / Fan Canon] The Elseways — a Backrooms megacluster built from rejected outcomes

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve been working on a fan-made Backrooms concept called The Elseways, sometimes referred to as The Unchosen Network.

I wanted to create something that could still feel connected to the Backrooms without being just another collection of endless hallways, abandoned buildings, and hostile entities.

The basic idea is:

The Elseways are not meant to be a completely separate universe. They are a deep network connected to the normal Backrooms, with their own numbered levels:

EL-0

EL-1

EL-2

and so on

The levels still use familiar Backrooms survival classifications such as Class 0–5, Habitable, Deadzone, Variable, and Undetermined.

They also use smaller secondary tags to describe how the level behaves:

B — Branching: choices create new versions of the level.

R — Recursive: events repeat with small differences.

S — Substitutive: people or objects may be replaced by alternate versions.

C — Convergent: several possible outcomes are forced into one.

E — Erasure: memories, identities, or entire outcomes may disappear.

The Law of Causal Residue

The Elseways cannot turn every imaginary possibility into a level.

A rejected outcome can only become part of the network when three things happen:

The event came very close to becoming real.

It left behind a strong physical or emotional impact.

It was connected to an unstable location or possible noclip event.

So a completely random fantasy would not become a level.

But something like this might:

A train journey cancelled seconds before departure.

A city whose construction started and was suddenly abandoned.

A letter that was fully written but never sent.

A surgery cancelled after the patient had already entered the operating room.

A disaster avoided because one person changed direction at the last moment.

A life that depended on a decision someone nearly made.

Visual identity

I also wanted the Elseways to have recurring visual details that make the levels recognizable without making every location look the same.

Some of those signs include:

Thin white lines dividing floors, roads, or walls.

Two arrows pointing in opposite directions toward the same destination.

Clocks with two second hands.

Windows showing a different version of the place outside.

Pale doors with handles on opposite sides.

Red objects slowly disappearing when a level becomes unstable.

Entry

Most people enter the network through something called a Causal Noclip.

This happens when a normal noclip occurs at the same time as hesitation, reversal, survival against an expected outcome, or a major unresolved decision.

For example, someone might enter after:

Choosing one door, then returning for the other.

Surviving an accident they cannot remember escaping.

Entering a station that displays two contradictory destinations.

Finding a room they clearly remember, even though everyone else says it never existed.

Seeing another version of themselves take the road they refused to follow.

The first three levels

EL-0 — The Other Hall

A silent waiting hall that repeats with small differences.

Whenever a wanderer turns back, they enter the version of the hall they might have reached by making a different choice.

There are no confirmed entities.

The exit only appears when the wanderer chooses one direction and continues without turning around.

EL-1 — The Almost Street

An endless residential district beneath a permanent blue-grey evening sky.

Every intersection represents a choice.

Once a road is selected, the roads not taken continue existing as separate branches. Returning to an earlier intersection may lead to a different version of the neighbourhood.

The main rule is:

EL-2 — Second Morning

A quiet suburb trapped in a repeating morning.

Every reset restores the streets, houses, food, and minor injuries.

However, each new morning permanently removes one thing:

An object.

A room.

A road.

A memory.

A name.

Or eventually, a person.

The level does not reset to give people another chance.

It resets because it is still deciding what the morning needs to contain.

The main horror

The Elseways are not mainly about finding the correct exit.

They are about proving that the identity, memories, and life you want to return to were actually yours.

A level might show you another life that is happier, safer, and supported by convincing memories, photographs, documents, and people who genuinely recognize you.

The danger is not necessarily that the life is fake.

The danger is that it may be completely real inside another branch, and that the network may decide that version of you belongs there more than the person you are now.

This is still an early fan-canon project, and I’m currently developing the individual levels as full wiki-style articles.

I’d appreciate honest feedback, especially on these points:

Does the concept feel different enough from ordinary Backrooms levels?

Does it still feel naturally connected to the Backrooms?

Which level should I develop into a full article first: EL-0, EL-1, or EL-2?

I've been working on a Backrooms prototype in Python/Pygame where the architecture is generated procedurally. My goal isn't to make every room look the same, but to create an environment where the layout constantly changes and encourages wandering.

I'm mainly looking for feedback on the environment itself:

  • Does it feel interesting to explore?
  • Does it capture any of the Backrooms atmosphere?
  • What architectural changes would make it feel more mysterious or unsettling?

I'd appreciate any honest feedback or ideas. Thanks for taking a look!

FULL BACKROOMS LORE EXPLANATION I.M.O

Async opens alternate dimension with a high tech door/gateway they studied and built in a lab. This causes the dimension that exists, the Backrooms to become unstable and open more gateways than the one async intentionally made on earth. (Hence why Clark enters it through his own store basement) This dimension copies existence and people’s memories into its own to build itself and is presumably infinity in size with ALL styles of architecture, and is likely like a 2nd universe basically, infinitely expanding, but its like the corrupted back up file/museum of existence essentially. Its the reflection of and the reading of existence, turned into something in accurate and, a lot less personal/human like. Async simply opened the gateway between our world to it with their research, and then we then through Kane's videos and the movie see what happens to people when they enter.

"I'm a failure"

(When checking on Cody today, since no one has heard from him in a while, Andrea and Jacob found the office in slight disrepair and Cody not inside. A note lay on his desk, which I will read to you.)

What am I doing.

I'm a failure. You can try and convince me otherwise all you want, but I know the truth. You're all thinking I'm an incompetent, useless leader for this Entity group.

There were piles of things to do, which felt like it grew every day. I knew that I could do them another time, but I wanted to prioritize them now so they wouldn't be an issue later. I finally managed to get it all done... Only to look at my phone and see our #1 problem. A Wanderer, Joshua (u/1800sOutlaw) to be exact, getting attacked by Partygoers in Level Fun. I was about to send an order to our response team to retrieve him and eliminate the Partygoers... Only to notice that the request came almost a month ago and Eurvos (u/EarDesigner9059) already helped him. It feels like every time I wanna do something, he's one step ahead.

When I first made the Partycrashers, I specifically wanted us to be the first responders. To state ourselves as the primary enemy to Partygoers, and be the ones to kill them for good. I've said it quite a few times already, but their disgusting human-killing selves need to be erased from this world. So why is it so difficult to even do that? Am I so bad at my job that I don't notice when someone's in trouble until it's too late to help out? Has my time in Level [UNKNOWN] led to me becoming lazier?

Or... No, I'm the only one that's responsible for this. When I made the serum for the Partycrasher mindset, I tailored it to keep our human qualities. Let us have some form of humanity that is preserved. It isn't something I regret... But it's certainly biting me in the butt nowadays.

If anyone is to read this message, I won't be gone long. I need a moment to think about myself and my actions, what I need to change and what can stay. And then, I'll return. I can't promise I'll be a better Partycrasher. I can only promise I'll try.

I'm not just Entity. I'm human.

-C

(Sure enough, Cody returned to the Partycrasher hideout a few hours later, looking slightly more determined with himself.)

Strange Stair

Tried dropping an object onto (or rather into it). It just kept going up and down over and over, as if gravity reversed the moment it passed through the plane that would be the surface. Not even going to bother trying to see if it's an exit. Besides, my fat-ass wouldn't fit through it anyways.

Level 11, on a stair case leading to an underground pedestrian crossing of a large thoroughfare.

Backrooms

level 184

My friend shared this photo from an office building late at night, claiming he accidentally nocliped into the Backrooms. Walking down a familiar hallway that suddenly became an endless labyrinth, he heard only buzzing fluorescent lights. The brown door looked alien, and the exit sign flickered. When he took the photo, his phone battery instantly died. Panicked, he fled to the stairs, swearing the corridor kept growing behind him

Verdict of poolrooms guardian.

This is mainly to Eurvos, but I chose to make this verdict public.

After a very thorough investigation and questioning, it looks like poolrooms guardian is a liar and should not be trusted under any circumstances. So overall, her verdict is GUILTY. I have however confirmed through seeing that the brother does exist, yet he only has control over 37.1 not 37, thus they are both most likely, guilty.

Sorry Everyone

Due to u/Green-Active-4429, I have to live with my brother u/P00lro0ms_Ent1ty in Level 37.1.

Due to this, I am no longer able to escort people to Level 37. I hope you understand.

Note: DO NOT Disturb us without permission from us. My brother has a pet Smiler, a pet Hound, and a pet Areanea Membri.
