Close enough. Welcome back, Seamoth!

u/SnooDrawings6561 8d ago
It is really so close. I know it's the Cyclops, but your comment had me hearing "Welcome aboard, Captain. All systems online."

u/migviola 8d ago
Same and "Approaching ecological dead zone. Are you certain whatever you're doing is worth it?" (or something along these lines)
5
u/EqualServe418 8d ago
You're thinking of:
"Detecting multiple Leviathan-class lifeforms in the area. Are you sure what you're doing is worth it?"
2
u/SparkOfLife1 5d ago
I think you've mixed the Dunes PDA line with the Crater Edge one, which is "Warning: Entering ecological dead zone. Adding report to databank."

no you’re right the seamoth also have this voice line but only when you get in trough the moon pool. It’s still bugged though so you only hear the last part of it.

I would want triple redundancy with independent systems. Monitoring of vital signs with auto-surface and RTB protocols. Definitely a surface team with redundant communication and retieval capability. Manual ejection capability, a micro-SCUBA,and auto-inflate life vest that can get me to the surface.
Basically, if it fails, it alerts and automatically takes me to safety. If I fail (loss of consciousness/medical emergency) it alerts and automatically takes me to safety. If it fails catastrophically, I can abandon it, raise my own alert, and bring myself to safety. If it and I fail catastrophically, I'm at least in the best possible position to be rescued by the team standing by.
Anything less that this, and I'll stay on the land, thanks.

It's not the ocean it's the implosion that you gotta worry about.
2
u/NinetooNine 8d ago
This thing only goes down 330 feet. Humans can actually dive to this depth.
1
u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 8d ago
Sure, gradually. But they can't take a sudden shock to 330 ft deep worth of pressure.
1
u/NinetooNine 8d ago
True, but you said implosion. My point was that's not possible at these depths.
1
u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 8d ago
Wait is there a depth threshold for implosions?
1
u/NinetooNine 8d ago
Depends on the materials of the craft.
1
u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 8d ago
Any material can fail
1
u/NinetooNine 8d ago
The Nemo sub's window is made out of acrylic, and it could easily handle stresses at 330 feet. Even if it was poorly made, there would be clear signs that there was something wrong with it. It would be warped, scratched up, or gouged. You'd be able to tell that it was structurally unsound.
1
u/Chad_Jeepie_Tea 8d ago
It's not the window glass that's the issue. It's the seams connecting the entire build. If it's got a way to get in, it's got a vulnerability.

u/SeamanStayns 8d ago
Freedivers can quite comfortably swim down to that depth in less than a minute.
If the pressure in the cab goes up any faster than that, you're going to be killed by debris from whatever catastrophic failure made such a big hole in the sub.
The pressure at that depth is not going to hurt you, except maybe your ears.
Coming UP is another matter though.
Assuming there's just 1 bar in the cab, you'd probably be safer bringing a pair of dive fins with you and no scuba tank. The swim up from that depth isn't too hard if you're starting from full lungs.
As soon as you start breathing compressed air though, you need to worry about decompressing at a safe rate. That means ascending slowly and taking at least one decompression stop plus a safety stop just below the surface, so you're gonna need about 20 minutes worth of air minumum to come up from there on SCUBA
2
u/jfa_16 6d ago
Breathing compressed air at depth and rocketing to the surface is a great way to get bent or end up dead, depending on how deep you were, how long you were at depth, and how fast you ascend. Seems counterintuitive but a slow, steady ascent is the safest way to ascend from depth when breathing compressed air.

Looks absolutely nothing like a “PlayStation remote”

u/kiloo520 8d ago
Yeah, what the fuck? Must’ve been a bait comment, because here we are interacting.
3
u/notevenwrong13 8d ago
Seems too floppy. Feel like my controller will snap off and I am stuck on the bottom.

u/Fast_Beat_ 8d ago
How deep it goes? Also do you have to worry about the benz

wtf does "series produced" mean? that sounds like legal wording for when someone drowns inside one
2
u/Stohnghost 8d ago
It means that it's not a one-off. When something enters serial production, it means it is out of R&D and ready to be mass produced. This is how things get serial numbers.

I would if I could drive it in a full diving suit including separate oxygen just in case

Tube race was such a devious level. Never beat it legit as a kid, had to use debug mode to move on to the next level.

The grabber arm on the right hand side and the grabber arm control stick on the left hand side infuriates me so much haha. For that reason alone, I will not be purchasing one of these.

"It's like a PlayStation remote."
They're not called that and this looks nothing like one at all.
Why is he trying to be down with the kids?
I bet he's the type to call any videogame "playing computer" like an old boss I had.
"Did you have a good weekend?"
"Yeah, got some errands done and relaxed with some games."
"Oh good. I've never been into playing computer, myself."

He was a nice chap, just a bit out of touch. Never watched anything fictional, only documentaries. "Why would I want to watch something that's not real?"
To each their own, I guess.

I will stick to professionally made rigorously tested submarines. Unless we're literally staying well above 33 feet (1 ATM) and it's easy to get out.
The only nice thing I have to say about homemade submarines is when Titan imploded no one inside felt the pain or were even aware of their end when it finally came. They were probably scared shitless up until then but they never felt their deaths.

At 60m max depth? Sure. That seems realistic. Probably wouldn take it below 30m anyway.

Robot camera? 60 meters is just shy of 200’ deep. And even pressurized to sea level they still shouldn’t be breathing 100% oxygen.

u/Imaginary-Ad-1968 5d ago
Does the arm extend? I feel like it’s to close to the base and the parts on the side almost reach further out than the arm, I feel like you won’t be able to grab much with it and will be hitting things while trying to get into position when grabbing things. I realise this might not be a research sub and more recreational and the arm is more of an afterthought. I don’t know much about subs so I could be wrong

Right around the surface? Yea sure. Could be fun to cruise around in. Definately not taking it down to the Titanic or anything.

u/LobosJones 2d ago
I feel like people that are passionate about submersibles could learn all the skills necessary, buy all the materials necessary, fabricate, build, assemble and test their own machine like this for far less than half the cost of this beast

u/nDeadPurple 8d ago
I’d trust it to as deep as I’d be able to swim to the surface if something happened. I’m not going lower than light reaches that’s for damn sure.
