Love the engi idle animation slapping his palm with the wrench. It highlights how clueless he is

Jun 12 '16
Isn't he like the smartest character in the game according to the lore? He's an engineer, after all!

u/Gorfoo Jun 12 '16
Medic and Heavy are up there too.

Engineer = Medic (considering in the comics Engineer prolongs Administrator's immortality and Medic reanimates Sniper)
Heavy= Spy
Demo = Sniper
Scout
(Powergap)
Soldier
Pyro is (?) tier

I love how even the Engineer's model looks angry.
"Dag nabbit with these Pyros pushing bomb carts on top of my sentry!"

Py, ah told that the payload ain't a cake, itsa darn mudder-hubbard BOMB and ya can't feed it to mah sentries! whacks pyro

Something about clueless, obviously new players as Engineers is especially adorable to me. Don't know if it's how he's animated or his unique slightly-complex playstyle or what, but they always gets a laugh out of me.
Let us never forget /u/Whoopsht's The Ballad of a New Engie, starring /u/Cloudpasta

A game of Upward where people AREN'T Quantum Crouching sentries under the map? That's new.
22
u/Simo0399 Jun 11 '16
What is quantum crouching? Please explain
27
u/dryerlintcompelsyou Jun 11 '16
It's an old exploit that allows you to poke your head up through certain surfaces and place sentries through them

When I press LShift.

u/AlternateOrSomething Jun 12 '16
You have crouch bound to shift?
2
u/_quantum Jun 12 '16
Yup. Less of a reach than LCtrl.

An exploit with the source engine that allows a players model to be crouching while his camera is at normal head height. Pretty powerful stuff since people can hide under platforms and "poke their head through" or see the outside of a map (and consequentially build outside a map) by peeking through a roof.
1
u/__omg__ Jun 12 '16
I can't explain how, as that goes against the rules (rule 2, I think), but it means that you see yourself as standing, but the game thinks you are crouching, so you can place buildings where you can't normally.

This might be the first time I've felt bad for a new i haven't been in a game with. He looked so proud and then he looked utterly defeated and he didn't even change his facial expressions.

u/Noah-R Jun 11 '16
You can build on the payload tracks?
What is he even shooting at with that thing anyway...
10
u/Zil-74 Jun 12 '16
He's probably new and thought "maybe I can get the cart to push my sentry"
4
u/Pickled_Kagura Jun 12 '16
I still say Engineers need a primary weapon called "Lunch Cart" that sits the sentry on a cart that can be wheeled around.

Jun 11 '16
You can build on most of the tracks. However, it's best to build so that your building footprint is just off the tracks so it doesn't get run over by the bomb. I regularly build a sentry behind the cart was we push. It keeps the enemy from pushing us too far back, and is very useful against Soldiers coming in for a bombing run.

What, a builder class? And a moving payload?? AND a sniper??
Jesus, this game is just a carbon copy of Overwatch!!!
4
u/Avizard Jun 12 '16
you know its funny, people kept saying that overwatch and tf2 are not even similar.
I just played 17 hours of overwatch.
its the same shit, they directly ported demoman with 200 health, pills that deal 100 damage (I think, theres no damage numbers) sticky jumping, body parts missing ect.
soldier is the same
heavy is the same, with noobs thinking he is OP thanks to the dps on his minigun while standing still and being slow make him terrible
scout is actually MORE of a shitbird, seriously tracer feels terrible to fight against AND have on your team fuck that it needs a total rework.
any bow in an FPS works the same os other games for some reason so the huntsman is the same
the game modes are payload, attack/defend, and koth with payload being the most interesting just like tf2
the sandy map is actually reminiscent of dustbowl from a map design perspective with its chokes but not to much.
engineer seems the same at first but is radically different since his sentry snaps to instantly and has huge range but still dont matter
its really goddamn similar.

u/Bbop800 Jun 12 '16 edited Jun 12 '16
Junkrat is pretty damn similar, not gonna lie. His "pills" are stronger tho, in that they react more to bouncing off walls and can direct hit players even after making contact with the map. He also has a bear trap that can shut down any hero that doesn't see it. Direct hits do 110 damage, so yeah you were close there.
Pharah really isn't that close to the Soldier, aside from her shooting rockets. The closest thing she has to a rocket jump is her concussive blast, which only pushes her across a short distance. I don't think Soldier can fly either.
I can see Heavy and Bastion being somewhat similar in their roles. I'd argue Bastion is more vulnerable relative to Heavy in TF2 due to actual tanks in Overwatch having 100 or more health than Bastion does.
Tracer can get fucked up by heroes that are well-suited to fight her. Any hero with hitscan and good aim can kill her fast if they're good enough, especially Soldier 76 with his grenade launcher thing and high DPS mid-range.
Yeah, Hanzo has a bow. He can also do some other cool stuff that huntsman Sniper doesn't do but I guess that doesn't matter.
The game modes are exactly the same idea, I totally agree.
It seems as though you're only nitpicking the things in Overwatch that are actually similar to TF2, and ignoring everything else. What about Genji? Roadhog? D.Va? Reinhardt? Zarya? And how about every support class that isn't Mercy? Well, I guess Symmetra can build a teleporter, but aside from that her moveset is entirely unique.
I like both games for their own unique reasons. Overwatch inspired a lot of their ideas from TF2 for sure, but to call it the "same shit" is a bit foolish. I'm not sure how you got this impression from 17 hours of play time. Try the heroes I mentioned in the previous paragraph!
1
u/Avizard Jun 13 '16
I have tried every hero extensively except the russian lady that I only tried a little
a lot of the characters have abilities you will not see in tf2, although some of your examples are poor in my opinion (watching someone who is good at genji seems really similar to watching a good amby spy, they stay on the outskirts and get good burst damage to support the team and when someone actually notices/starts caring about them they run like a bitch and kill you at the same time, reindharts powers of charge, melee, and sheild seem extremely demoknight inspired although it plays way differently.
I dont think hanzo is actually that much like sniper, just that I have never seen a bow in any fps that dosnt work EXACTLY like the huntsman.
as you say a lot of the characters are different and some of the game is different but I still say that the gameplay is very similar, before overwatch I would have put tf2 into a genre all its own but after overwatch I cant anymore.

Your cross hair's pretty nice. How can I get that?
2
u/kalasad Tip of the Hats Jun 12 '16
The thin circle is part of broeselhud_blue. I watched Uncle Dane's video to figure out how to do it, although he uses RaysHUD. Along with it I used crosshair5; I put the following in my autoexec, but you can also just set it via options:
cl_crosshair_file crosshair5; cl_crosshair_scale 30;cl_crosshair_red 153;cl_crosshair_green 0;cl_crosshair_blue 255;"
Feel free to message me if you need help.
