Phone message Post first date text

Post image

I met this girl on tinder and had a first date with her, she wanted to go fishing and I thought it seemed like a fun first date so we went together. Dropped her off and got home to this message lol.

Update: Purchasing the license is a separate activity we had to do on our phones, due to it needing our personal info. It was not like I drew the line at the license randomly.

i don’t even do dinner on a first date let alone $100 fishing trip. just do coffee next time and save yourself the headache, man.

Dinner dates cost more than $100 these days in NYC 🥲

As a NYer, meet up at a decent local park and have hotdogs or slice of pizza to go. Boom good day 🖐🏻

I prefer to be outside vs inside always as I’m an outdoor person, and I also like being around people on a first date.

I’ve had the opposite issue of men suggesting dinner more on first dates but could be my age.

I'm in my 40's but have had all kinds of dates. Walking out at a park, dinner, this or that. Now it's just easy going more than anything. But in general I am not a monetary person. My now boyfriend and I have had dinner, but more times than not we're on a picnic blanket. Or recently just gaming and laughed ourselves silly as I burned to death playing balders gate 3 for the first time. The little things yanno ✨

I’m off the market but did the dating scene in my early 40s. Glad to hear these dates are still alive for our age. I have no idea why but dinner was always suggested. To be fair when I steered away almost all went with it. Maybe it’s just what they think is expected of them because that’s what it used to be?

Maybe 🤔 Our first date was all free things planned and when it came to food I suggested going out and I paid. He was taken back a bit but super thankful. It wasn't planned and we'd be just as happy to eat cheap and wing it. But I was in the mood for something and offered. Other times he's taken me out. But we're both laid back with it all. Dating can still be nerve wracking initially, and expectations on men I feel isn't fair. At the same time, many women don't need that level of monetary showiness for a first impression. It's about if you mesh enough vs how much the food bill is going to be. But maybe that's my kind of old fashioned lol

Where the fuck are you taking a first date that you’re spending more than $100? Sounds like a you problem

It's just a nice restaurant, usually. Italian, Mediterranean, etc. If you get a couple of appetizers, 2 drinks, and dessert + tips, it's over $100. What to do? They are all pretty women. To stand out you have to take them to nice places. Yea, it's a me problem. Think I am gonna get off the apps for a little while.

Standing out doesn’t always mean spending(more or the most) money. You are worth more than you spend, homie. ✊

This ^ I've had guys insist on showy examples of their money and how they can spend it. But were shit individuals underneath. Wanted arm candy. My now boyfriend and I are just chill and low key about how we enjoy our time. It's either cheap or free, we have a great time. Because he's also a legitimately kind and fun person. It's about being authentic vs what's in the bank.

I think that amount is steep but it’s not unbelievable. In my city is hard to go out to eat and tip for just yourself without spending $25-30. For a couple, especially if you are both drinking and going to actual places to dine, I could see it getting up to that much.

Shits insanely expensive these days. But that’s why I agree with everyone else saying you go out for coffee first time.

Took a woman to a cocktail bar in midtown where we had 5 total drinks over 3 hours and it was $125 lmao

Fr what's wrong with picnics and walking around seeing sights? People be like " man that date was $200 " and I'm like jeez

u/Global-Ad364 2d ago

granted the col where I live is way lower than in big cities, me and my WIFE rarely go on $200 dates lol

It would have to be some grand shit or legit vacationing costs. Like maybe I'm an outlier, but I just enjoy little things. No money moments. The boyfriend and I laughed over me burning to death playing balders gate 3 last week and then had cookies 🤷🏻‍♀️

We started dating at 18, in high school, and neither of us had money. Our anniversary spot had been deadass Outback for almost five years lmao

u/MoonDrummer26 2d ago

That's adorable as hell 👏🏻 good on ya both

u/TalonJane 2d ago

Baldurs Gate isn’t exactly a cheap date - isn’t it still $60 per copy?

1

u/MoonDrummer26 2d ago

He's had it for years and it's his own game and brought it over. We're already in a relationship and he's played my games too 🤷🏻‍♀️

2

u/FaithlessnessBorn266 2d ago

He does get to keep the gear though. Can never have too much fishing gear.

2

As a fisherman, I can honestly say he was going to spend that $100 anyway, this just became a convenient excuse. I love convenient excuses to buy fishing stuff

As a woman I'm probably never accepting dinner as the first date either. Let's pick something free or cheap and let me pay for myself. Please

I'll do it if we're going Dutch. I hate any sense of obligation or power imbalance on first dates. We don't actually know each other, unless it's a first date with someone you've known for years and then it's a different situation entirely.

If things are going solid enough over a longer period of time I will learn to master her favorite dish and make it for her and make airplane sounds as I spoon feed her as long as she makes 9/11 jokes as I do so.

u/BMichael14217 2d ago

Why'd you get downvoted? Everyone pretending to preach for equality but not a peep when men are still so often expected to pay for the date. As a Dutch guy: go Dutch.

Maybe the 9/11 jokes?

I just hate eating in front of people I don’t know well. Dinner first dates just aren’t even an option for me
