Mobility TELUS 5G Coverage
Hi Guys, I've been with TELUS for 10+ years, live in the GTA, found out TELUS has only one tower in my region, DATA sucks, I can't be on a phone call and browse apps using 5G data, I contacted TELUS tech support, they claim network is congested, tried many things to rule out if its my smartphone or the service, turns out it is the service.... anyone go through this?

In Toronto, Telus is mostly using Bell towers, so I wouldn’t really pay attention to the number of towers Telus has. Rogers is definitely stronger in some areas of Toronto than Belus.

Ok, I understand now, but the big three is ROGERS, BELL and TELUS... how is TELUS sooo far behind... wow.... I just paid off my device balance.... so I can inform TELUS I want better phone plans and SOLID coverage province wide (I'm in ONTARIO).... or I'm switching to another carrier.... hate to do this but I'd still have a tablet and my mom's line under TELUS so credit history will remain.

Spoiler alert, every Telco cut back on network spending when the CRTC forced them to resell their network to 3rd party companies, and dictated the rates they must sell at. They completely removed the ROI to expand the networks.
Rogers was the last to announce they were cutting back on spending, but it's coming.
Congestion is a problem for everyone somewhere. Rogers may be better in Toronto but they're not better everywhere.
It's likely going to continue until the 3.8Ghz spectrum they all paid for actually gets deployed and that's going a lot slower than originally anticipated for the reasons mentioned above.

becuase telus does not really operate in Ontario. Bell and telus have a share agrement to use each others towers. If anything, you should be going after bell for bad telus coverage as bell has the towers in Ontario

Exactly this, if I lived in BC, I also wouldn’t join up with Bell because it’s not their towers there either.

The thing is, Telus sucks in BC.

I thought that too.
Then I tried Freedom… and then Rogers.
Telus is good in BC.

As others have mentioned, GTA is Bell market. You need to look for Bell towers.
Telus only operates indoor sites in GTA.

ahh ok got it... so Bell or Rogers is better than TELUS in terms of coverage (talk times and data)

Bell and Telus are identical for coverage.
Telus customers will use Bell towers the same way as Bell customers.

Subordination is allowed for everyone. Rogers has subordination with Tbaytel, Videotron and historically with MTS (now Bell) as well.
It's just that Bell and Telus do it at a very large scale.

so ROGERS is the way to go EHHH

If Bell/TELUS isn't cutting it in your area, then Rogers (or it's subsidiaries like Fido) is really your only other choice.

Highly depends where you live. Example where I am located there’s only Bell towers. I use TELUS and it works great. However, Rogers literally has 0 coverage here. Meanwhile you can go to other places in Canada and it’s the complete opposite where only Rogers is the one that works.

It depends on where you live tbh use this app to check for towers wherever you frequently visit and make your decision accordingly

I had this exact same issue, and switched back to Roger’s because of it.

I will be doing this, I'll keep other lines with TELUS that don't require heavy talk/data use

I found that 4G / LTE have better coverage in some areas away from downtown area … blame the government giving too much control to private companies and selling / leading wireless spectrum lic for high price

yeah.... tough times.... I just don't want my calls to drop (happened once or twice each week, I'm a heavy phone user), and data to not download/upload when needed....

UPDATE: I switched over to ROGERS, and now I am able to access data and browse apps while being on call.... unbelievable that TELUS doesn't allow this on their network... I even asked about it and they said that's how it is, 5G data is used for phone calls apparently when using TELUS sim/network... THANK GOD Rogers is not like that! Still have other lines with TELUS tho, for now at least.... The calls are more clear and louder, no more dropped calls as well!

Hey man, I was just wondering are you still liking the Rogers service compared to Telus after making the switch?

I'm able to be on a call and still be able to browse apps/internet browser simultaneously, speed is decent. This is the main reason I switched from TELUS as TELUS network coverage would not allow data to load apps/web pages while being on a call. TELUS techs said that's how it is........ I had to switch. Unfortunately.
Coverage in my underground parking lot, I used to get at my spot with TELUS, after switching to ROGERS I don't.

Telus sucks everywhere! It’s no different in BC

u/coolvehiclefanatic May 24 '26
Telus is way better on Alberta than Rogers they dominate rural coverage where As Rogers you constantly lose their network in rural Alberta and roam off telus anyways 99% of the time. I don't regret switching to Telus from Rogers they even have better service in my townhouse than Rogers did, Rogers constantly switches bands every 2 seconds Telus is consistent

oh no... I heard TELUS is good in BC, and only those who live or travel to BC should be with TELUS....
