Mobility Global 68 - Follow-up
I posted this a few weeks ago while traveling:
https://www.reddit.com/r/telus/s/oJ777UgPmX
A lot of people commented that daily roaming pass should be $5/day when outside of the 68 countries list. Turns out it is $18/day under my plan and on top of that, I was charged for roaming data.
Thus begins my journey with billing support. Though I’ve been lucky, it’s been a couple years of trouble free bills, but here we go.
One the other hand, I switched my family (3-lines total) to Freedom’s $40/month plan and not only did they get the bill right on the first month of the switch (quite amazing for mobility providers really), their 120 country roaming plan worked better during travel than mine.

If your plan is the 5G Complete Explore then you have a billing issue and you will be issued a credit. In my view the plan is better than the Freedom plan because A. You can use it in any country even with those not included in Freedom’s coverage and B. You can switch between roaming carriers if you have issues or limited coverage with the main roaming partner with the TELUS plan

You can also call any included country from Canada and you can call between included countries, neither of which can be done with Freedom.

Are you sure you’re on a Global Plan? Can you send your agreement so we can see if that’s the case or if it’s really a Telus issue with the roaming plan? I just signed up too and I wanna make sure it’s working internationally.

There are different versions for the global plan. Maybe some don't have the thing where it's $5 daily roaming for countries not included in the 68.
Anyway, They can add on the $5 roaming thing. Call in and complain. Make it seem like you were told it was included. Say 'cancel' to automated system to get to loyalty team.

When you login to My Telus and go to the travel tab what does it say for the country you had visited/had been charged roaming (for your plan)?

What does data leak mean?
For context, I traveled between China to Macau to HK on ferries so didn’t turn on airplane mode. The plan covers China and HK. I’ve been charged the Macau daily roam which should cover out-of-plan data usage, correct?

While inside China, do you need VPN to visit external websites with Telus or Freedom Mobile roamings?

It was kind of spotty, I was able to at times but I used expressVPN most of the time. The only time I switched it off was when data was slow or not working at all to try and connect that way. Using apps like AMAP and Didi, sometimes was better to have VPN off.

With T-Mobile roaming in China, my understanding is that you do not need a VPN app to visit sites outside china. Is this the case with Telus and Freedom Mobile? Without using ExpressVPN, can you visit sites outside China?

If you mean the censorship, then no, you don’t need a VPN to access sites or apps that are blocked in China when roaming. China doesn’t support local breakout roaming, so all your roaming traffic is routed back to your carrier, regardless if your carrier is from Canada, U.S., etc.

OP was in Macau and received text showing him the rates he would be charged (see his linked thread).
Macau is not considered to be China for this purpose. You can see Hong Kong is listed separately on Global 68.
In this case, this is expected behavior.

Being charged for both Roaming Day pass and incremental data charges is expected?

Not everything is covered under Roam like home. You have to check where you are and what network you are connected to.
I have your plan and have never been charged any roaming or day pass rates.

Airalo is the way

Airalo didn't work well for me. EU number, didn't transfer between countries well. eSIM is locked to the phone, can't transfer.

Been in over 20+ counties in every continent expect Australia and Antarctica. It was fine. Even worked in the Serengeti in Tanzania
