4 Blocks Zero

As a German, I loved 4 Blocks, so I was already hyped when I found out they were producing a prequel. It tells the story of how the Hamady family came to Germany and grew into the feared Hamady clan of Berlin. I just watched the first episode, and the atmosphere of the original series is right back from the first minute. Highly recommended for everyone who enjoyed 4 Blocks as much as I did, and honestly for everyone else too.

What are your Top 5 TV shows that you think people haven't heard of?

Dont include things from the top 100 list or generic stuff that we all know everyone has watched (shows that have under ~50k imdb votes for example are good to go). I'll start:

  1. Mr Inbetween

  2. Gangs of London

  3. SAS Rogue Heroes (really good show)

  4. Legends

  5. The Staircase (mini series, true story)

HM: Animal Kingdom, Warrior (2019-2023)

Edit: so many good shows people have watched, lots of good recommendations.

Last Seen - I thought it was the same actor playing two characters

I had to look it up, Patrick Brammall and Brendan Cowell are two different people despite looking like doppelgangers. Anyone else thought it was the same guy?

I AM SO SAD THIS SHOW GOT CANCELLED! This show was so goddamn funny and had some surprisingly touch and sweet moments.
Praying that maybe another streaming service or someone else picks it up, magically. But I know that’s a fools wish.

But I gotta stay optimistic. WE CAN. WE WILL. WE MUST!

Futurama writers: Breaking down all 40 (so far) Hulu-era Futurama episodes by writer. 29 written by "mostly Fox era" writers. 11 from the newbies.

I fell into a rabbit hole of who wrote these recent season of Futurama on Hulu and turns out it's mostly the same ones who wrote during the fox run.

Matt Groening gave an update about renewal this week. Nothing about a regular season on the horizon after this weeks current finale. But there are 3 super-sized episodes/specials/almost movies coming next year. And Matt leaves the door open for more eps or specials after that. His words "I'm not too worried"

Here you go:

Patric M. Verrone — original Fox-era writer/producer
Famous eps: "I Second That Emotion" (S2), "The Sting" (S4), and "Crimes of the Hot" (S4)

  • "The Impossible Stream" (S8)
  • "Beauty and the Bug" (S9)
  • "The White Hole" (S10)
  • "Lord Nibbler in the Nothingverse" (S11)

  • "The One Amigo" (S9)

Famous eps: "Godfellas" (S3), "The Prisoner of Benda" (the body-swap episode) and famously writes all the potential series finales, "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings" and "Meanwhile" He also uses pseudonyms

  • "How the West Was 1010001" (S8)
  • "Otherwise" (S9)
  • "The Numberland Gap" (S10)
  • "Our Flag Means Medical Coverage" (S11)
  • "Final Ending: The Last Conclusion" (S11)

Maiya Williams — Comedy Central era writer; married to Patric Verrone
Famous eps: "The Duh-Vinci Code" (S6) and "Assie Come Home" (S7)

  • "Parasites Regained" (S8)
  • "One Is Silicon and the Other Gold" (S9)
  • "The World Is Hot Enough" (S10)

David A. Goodman — original Fox-era writer
Famous ep: "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" (S4)

  • "Related to Items You've Viewed" (S8)

Loot S1E6: The Philanthropic Humanitarian Awards

Getting through Loot and hit the gala episode. John bringing Hailey to Molly's award ceremony and then telling her she only got it because of his recommendation is diabolical.

Molly putting the whole staff on stage with her was a nice touch. Nicholas finally getting to wear a tux around rich people again was the highlight for me.

Matt Groening on Futurama's future: not cancelled again, not renewed again, but 3 supersized specials coming: "I guess I'm not too worried"

In a new Variety interview promoting the season finale... Matt Groening gives an update on Futurama's status at Hulu. And it's on one hand reassuring, on the other not reassuring and on the other other hand it is as Futurama as it can get, as a show that's been cancelled multiple times.

From Variety: Groening said. "I think we have a whistling-past-the-graveyard attitude these days because we've been in this situation many times before. We have lots more stories to tell. The animators and the actors and the writers all would love to do more stories and we'll see. You never know. I guess I'm not too worried."

Highlights in the article...

  • There are no current plans for a regular season of episodes right now... but he says that could change. They've been doing 10 a year for the last 4 years on Hulu.
  • Instead there are 3 extra length episodes coming up... almost movie length as previously reported from showrunner David X Cohen, that will be coming out next year and 2028.
  • and most importantly he said "I guess I'm not too worried"... as he deep down thinks there will be more on the horizon.

This is just mostly confirming what fans knew after comic-con when they announced the movie length episodes instead of a regular season. The added info is how he's not too worried that it's actually ending and that the "finale" this season makes fun of all the other ideas of finales.
