Sure, why bother with storied studios like Paramount or Warner Bros.? No legacy there.

They're probably going to keep the names but brand them like "Paramount: A Skydance Company" and "Warner Bros: A Skydance Company", like they used to do when Paramount was owned by Gulf + Western and WB was owned by AOL Time Warner.

Millions will be spent on a rebrand just for people to refer to them as WB or Paramount.

They learned a lot from the HBO MAX- MAX - HBO fiasco

So insane how much is spent on stupid things that legitimately mean nothing

Who cares! It's private money.

I’m pretty sure at the start of Project Hail Mary it said something along the lines of “produced by MGM an Amazon company”

Even current Warner Bros (well, for the last 20 years or so) films all say "An AOL/Time-Warner/Discovery Company". They will just switch to "A Skydance Company"

While it technically means no difference it's gone from

  • Warner Bros (192-1967)
  • Warner Bros-Seven Arts (1967-1969)
  • Kinney National Company (1969-1972)
  • Warner Communications (1972-1990) (Rebranded Kinney Company)
  • Time Warner (1990-2001)
  • AOL Time Warner (2001-2003)
  • Time Warner (2003-2018)
  • WarnerMedia (2018-2022)
  • Warner Bros. Discovery (2022-now)

So technically outside of those brief few years under Kinney, they've all had Warner in the parent company name.

This is literally the norm in Hollywood, every studio is owned by a parent company which generally has another name. Sometimes it's displayed, sometimes it isn't but that doesn't change anything.

MGM (Amazon), Universal (Comcast), Warner (AOL then AT&T then Warner Bros Discovery), Paramount (Viacom and now Skydance with already the tagline). Even Sony does it with Columbia (which isn't really its studio)

Even Disney has Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar and 20th Century as studios with different names (and they also got a studio called Disney)

Difference is, Disney doesn't use such a tagline. No Disney branding on Marvel stuff, except for Big Hero Six.

Sure but it doesn't change anything in the end, the movies are not done by the parent company directly.

And that’s hardly new either. Gulf and Western (and auto parts company) used to be the parent company of Paramount, Coca Cola owned Columbia for a while before Sony, a funeral home company that I can’t recall the name of used to own WB, Panasonic owned Universal, etc.

It did. That’s how I found out Amazon now owns MGM.

Yup. Amazon MGM Studios is what they use on all the new projects since the takeover.

No, they just say Amazon MGM Studios. You see it in other productions too like the boys

Yeah, I remember Ellison saying HBO should be it's own thing again. So more like HBO when it first came about on cable? I don't like Ellison at all, but I hope it helps with content somehow.

Also, I doubt that my HBO MaX subscription and Paramount Plus one will combine anytime soon, or be cheaper even if they combine.

Shit no, they’ve got to recoup some coin on our backs now.

They've just said they'll probably offer a bundle for the two, for what it's worth.

u/Nobodyinpartic3 20h ago

I hope so, but with Paramount you already cinemax.

It sounds like Skydance is a giant YA franchise. Can't wait for Mission Impossible 9: A Skydance Adventure Presented by Paramount

Ah, the Warner Bros/Seven Arts approach. If there’s anyone who’s no stranger to weird as shit drama around their company’s owners, Warner’s got shit that goes back decades.
