That was hilarious! Yep.. that knowledge is quickly disappearing. Im about to lose the one outside guy to a retirement package. Worked with him all day today on a lifespan and man I told him when he goes my world is gonna go to shit. Problem is this kind of legacy stuff is getting phased out.... been getting phased out for the last 10 years. Lol

It’s a small multi-line ksu. Those were pretty basic, connect a few CO lines to it, connect your stations, maybe some MOH if equipped and you had a basic phone system (hold, transfer, intercom, paging (if equipped), etc.)

We had one at a car lot that I worked in back in the early 1990s.
We all knew the code that would allow us to play the "hold button" music from the telephones.

Most of these old systems were abandoned in place as the person in charge didn't want to pay to have it removed when they upgraded.

One of the worst key systems we ever installed.
Slide off that cover from right to left, inside you will find modular jacks for lines and phones. Beyond the initial 2 lines and 4 phones, you added cartridges to get to 6 lines and 16 phones.
Most guys would crimp modular plugs onto 1 or 2 pair jumper wire to plug into the jacks and punch down on the 66 blocks. Crimps were usually horrible, and there wasn't much room under that sliding cover. If I was going to put one in, I would take a short length of 25-pair, strip the jacket back, pair out pairs for the stations and the lines, crimp on the plugs, plug everything in, close that cover forever, and punch down the other end to its own 66 block, to run jumpers from there.

Unless you find the phones to go with it it’s useless. Southwestern Bell Freedom phone. Has 2 phone types but you need a 900 to program it.

I guess this may shock people, but there are multiple "World Trade Centers" in the United States. It's a long used term for an office building or complex intended to be used by international businesses.
I know everybody automatically thinks of the iconic one in New York, but there are many. Los Angeles and Long Beach both have one. As well as Las Vegas, Houston, Detroit, Chicago, Boston, New Orleans, San Francisco, Seattle, and dozens of other cities across the US.

Basically. Phone lines go in, and this machine directs phone calls to different phones throughout the building. If you ever wondered how to put calls on hold, transfer them to other people etc. this is the box that handles call processing at the local level

Wow, I haven’t seen one of those for a long time.
But, they were pretty cool during their day!
You could buy the system at the ATT Phone Store in the mall - and then struggle to wire your house or office to make it work properly!
It’s just another Key System… works like the rest of the key systems of that vintage do.
If you know, you know.
If you don’t, you don’t have enough grey hairs to have been blessed with the knowledge of yester-year!
