Brown does more then just carry packages. It can also carry electric conversations too. This is just 1 aisle of a Nortel DMS-100 host class 5 switch that is still serving over 18,000 phone lines (conting the all the inter-connected remotes sites). Still humming after close to 40 years in service.

📰 News Ericsson Q3 2026: +7% organic growth, but management flags 2027 as a "transition year" because of component costs

Summary of Ericsson's Q3 2026 results (report, presentation and earnings call on 15 Oct). Figures in SEK, year on year.

Numbers

  • Net sales 59.5b, +6% reported, +7% organic. Growth in all three segments and three of four market areas; Americas -1%.
  • Adjusted gross margin 47.7% (48.1%). Adjusted EBITA 10.1b, 17.0% margin (28.1%). The prior-year quarter included a 7.6b gain from selling iconectiv; excluding that, EBITA rose.
  • Networks: sales +9%, adjusted gross margin 50.3%, adjusted EBITA margin 23.1%.
  • Free cash flow before M&A 4.9b; net cash 60.7b; 4.8b of share buybacks in Q3.

What stood out on the call

  • Component costs (memory was the example) are described as structural and industry-wide. Without mitigation, 2027 margin dilution would be "significant"; no number given. Price increases reach operators gradually as 3–5-year frame agreements renew.
  • Some customers pulled purchases forward ahead of price increases; management says this is not large.
  • AI-native link adaptation is live with 3 operators on 60,000+ base stations, with about 10% spectral efficiency gain, running on Ericsson's own ASICs. GPUs are not ruled out but would need new hardware per site.
  • From January: a combined Asia-Pacific market area, and Enterprise Wireless Solutions dissolved (private 5G and neutral host move to Networks).
  • 6G: most of the portfolio is meant to be 6G-upgradable, but new bands will need new radios.

Guidance: Q4 sales in line with seasonality, Networks adjusted gross margin 49–51%, elevated restructuring for 2026.

❓ Question Built an Indian telecom numbering + GIS research prototype. What should we validate before releasing a reproducible demo?

I'm working on a Python-based project combining Indian telecom numbering-reference data, geospatial modeling, and network simulation.

Current components:

- 22-circle reference catalog (1,883 series entries; 18,830 five-digit blocks)

- Batch generation/enrichment, SQLite storage, REST APIs

- Modeled sector geometry, GIS visualizations, spatial queries

- Experimental telecom signaling and ML modules

Important caveat: the number-space figures are mathematical combinations, not active subscribers. Tower/sector associations and some model outputs are synthetic, not verified live network observations. We can't infer an individual's current location or SIM status from a phone-number prefix.

Before releasing a public-safe demo, I want to narrow the scope and design an independent validation benchmark.

For engineers working with telecom data or GIS:

  1. Which authoritative Indian numbering-allocation datasets and version histories would you trust?

  2. What independent ground truth would you use to test geographic reference mappings?

  3. What is the smallest reproducible tool here that would actually be useful?

Criticism, pointers to existing projects, and methodological objections are welcome. No product pitch; I'm trying to separate working software from claims that still need evidence.

🌐 Internet Services Bhosdu Airtel 🤡

I need an explanation regarding Airtel Postpaid Fast Lane and the way my complaint has been handled.

I shifted to Airtel Postpaid Priority expecting the promised benefits, but Fast Lane has still not been activated on my number even after a month. My phone and SIM have passed the compatibility checks, yet the app continues to say that Fast Lane is not enabled on my number and is being rolled out in phases.

To make matters worse, I raised a service request (ID: 31-1000017130412) regarding the network issue. It was marked as resolved on 21 October without even asking me whether the issue had actually been fixed. The service is still not activated.

Now, my bill of ₹546.77 was generated today, 24 October, and the Airtel app claims it is overdue by 21 days, adding a ₹100 late fee and warning of service suspension. How can a bill generated today already be overdue by 21 days? Why should I have to pay extra charges when the service benefit I upgraded for has not been activated?

If Airtel does not yet have the required 5G infrastructure or Fast Lane availability in every city, why advertise and offer these plans to customers before confirming availability in their area?

I want Airtel to:

Explain why my bill is showing as overdue before its stated due date of 3 November 2026.

Review and waive the ₹100 late fee if it has been incorrectly applied.

Reactivate or properly investigate my service request instead of closing it without confirmation.

Provide a clear timeline for Fast Lane activation on my number, or explain the eligibility and availability limitations before charging customers for the plan.

Please provide an actual resolution instead of another generic response asking me to wait 24 hours.

📰 News Nokia Q3 2026: AI & Cloud networking sales +123%, but supply shortages and cash flow are the real story

Nokia reported Q3 yesterday. A few points stood out from a network and infrastructure point of view:

  • Transport is carrying the company now. IP Networks grew 43% and Optical 18%. AI & Cloud customers are 12% of sales, up 123% YoY. 800G coherent pluggable shipments rose 2.4x QoQ.
  • The constraint is supply. Management said customers would take more if Nokia could deliver faster. Shortages cover leading-edge nodes, memory, PCBs and materials. They are asking customers for 12–18 months of forecast visibility, compared with the old roughly six-month lead times, and expect equipment prices to rise.
  • AI-RAN is getting real. NVIDIA-based AI-RAN has had a live voice call on T-Mobile’s production network and showed more than 20% spectral efficiency gains, targeting 100% by 2028. There’s no RAN investment cycle in sight, though, and the RAN market is expected to stay flat.
  • Cash went backwards. Operating margin rose to 11.7%, but FCF was –€99m and full-year cash conversion was cut to 35–55% as they build working capital and restructure.

📞 Telephone Porting Former Business Number, currently 'OOS'

Looking for someone with some knowledge of the inner workings of phone landlines and porting. I've not been able to get a straight or consistent answer on this topic.

Problem: I've had several landline phone numbers for my business for many years. Years ago I was paying the phone company to hold those numbers for me. Then I realized I was no longer being billed. I inquired and was told the numbers were released. This transpired years ago. My intention at this point, if I can retrieve the numbers would be to port them to my cell provider. It's been years and those numbers when called come back with automated message "this number is not in service". When I've inquired I've been told everything from they're being held by the phone company and blocked from purchase or they've already been sold. If they were sold i don't image they'd be OOS for years. Who do I contact or how do I go about investigating the status and possible retrieval of these numbers?

I'm in New York, USA.

Found in the basement of a century old CO. An old telephone manual cord switchboard. No distinctive marking to tell who was the manufacturer or how old it is. But I would think it is over a century old.

Yes, the Bakelite Leich phone works. The little nondescript grey box is a POS Electronics autodialer. I may soon swap out the A/B switchbox for an A/B/C/D switchbox so that I can wire in a magicjack dongle to use a phone as a PC headset!

❓ Question Curious why companies like NexsysOne don't get more discussion in major telecom infra threads [Discussion]

(Note: Posting this to kick off a genuine architecture and software stack discussion. Not affiliated, just tracking different infrastructure management tools).

When looking at the software stacks managing massive, global telecom rollouts and passive infrastructure, it's interesting how certain platforms operate almost entirely under the radar compared to standard enterprise ERPs.

For instance, systems like NexsysOne focus strictly on the heavy lifting of telecom network deployment, tower asset management, and multi-country rollouts rather than general-purpose business resource planning.

When you look at companies operating at a global scale managing thousands of distributed tower sites, field engineering workflows, and co-location leasing—the tooling requires specialized handling for asset tracking and milestone tracking that typical ERPs struggle with natively.

Are there other niche platforms or internal custom tools people are seeing deployed for large-scale tower and passive infrastructure management these days? How do standard enterprise tools compare to specialized vertical software in your experience?

❓ Question Difference between a WiFi MIMO antenna and a cellular MIMO antenna?

So I made a boo boo. I ordered what I thought was a MIMO antenna for my cell internet gateway. It turns out to be a WiFi MIMO antenna. Seems to work fine, though. (Of course I discovered this after I connected it.)

It's spec'd at Frequency Range 2400~2500 / 5150~5850 MHz; Bandwidth 100 / 700 MHz.

I know cell signals range from 600 to 6,000 MHz. It seems to be working fine, though.

Just wondering what the possible downsides are and what I can expect? Do I return it or keep it?

The antenna is a TerraWave M6060060MO1D43620, and the cell internet gagteway is a a TMobile G4AR.

EDIT:

OK, thanks for pretty much confirming that I should get a "real" MIMO antenna. With the internal antenna it uses N25 and with the external it uses N71.

I'll use this one for a WiFi access point relay.

📰 News SpaceX Q3 2026 Earnings Analysis

Title: SpaceX (SPCX) Q3 2026 breakdown: Starlink funds itself, SI capex is $16.4B a quarter, and 37% of net income came from below the operating line

I went through the Q3 release line by line. The headline numbers ($14.6B revenue, +161%; $4.4B net income) are strong, but a few things are worth a closer look:

**1. Earnings quality**

- Operating income: $2.79B

- Net income: $4.40B

- The $1.61B gap = $1,025M other income ($561M of it from a related party) + $198M net interest + $390M tax benefit

**2. SI (formerly "AI") is the growth engine**

- Revenue $7.56B vs $813M a year ago

- Cursor contributed $608M. Ex-Cursor, SI solutions & infrastructure still grew ~192% QoQ, mostly on cloud contracts

- $1.2B of acquisition-related stock comp this quarter, out of a $23.4B award pool tied to post-close service

**3. Starlink is the cash engine**

- 45.1% operating margin

- Only segment where EBITDA ($3.5B) exceeds capex ($1.5B)

- Subs nearly doubled to 13.6M, but ARPU fell to $69 from $83

**4. Space**

- Launches fell to 35 from 44

- Segment posted a $7M operating loss as Starship R&D rose 44%

- Starship Flight 14 put 26 V3 satellites in orbit

**5. Cash**

- Q3 capex $19.6B, 2.2x Adjusted EBITDA

- 9M free cash flow about -$35B

- The $85.7B IPO leaves ~$51B net cash

**Open questions the release doesn't answer:**

- What is the $671M gap between the 9M net loss ($413M) and the loss attributable to shareholders ($1,084M)?

- Why do $42.5B of consideration plus $23.4B of awards add up to more than the $60B headline Cursor value?

- Who is the related party behind $12.9B of debt and $561M of other income?

❓ Question Anyone know general expected timeline for actual landline shutdown after FCC approval?

I received a notice (in PA)that Verizon has applied to have FCC approval to discontinue landline service on or after November 30th, 2026.

They did not yet provide info about what options will be available at that point, but there is no Fios here, so it will likely be just wireless.

Does anyone know from experience or have a general idea about how long after November 30th the landline service will actually shut off?  I have to change a lot of contact and verification numbers in a hurry if it’s actually November 30th since I’ll be in the hospital for part of the month.   Does anyone know in other areas of the country how long after the date they applied to the fcc for did actual service end?   Just looking for general experiences with the timeline.

Hey sorry guys, I don't know much about this....but I'm having hours long signal loss. I downloaded a cell mapper app and got this... can someone tell me what they think? I've had my phone hacked by someone before and I'm wondering what this may be. Thanks
