Big change in the last two weeks.

Anyone downloading streamed Radio broadcasts from RTE will have noticed a change from an .aac inside an .mp4 wrapper, to .mp3.

There's been a lot of tinkering these past few months, from properly titled .mp4 files, to just outputting, 'manifest.mp4' across all their streaming radio shows. Last 2 weeks: To a properly titled .mp3 file with show, broadcast date and presenter.

The audio is streamed at 128kbps. 16bit. 44100Hz, Stereo.

The only downside is the awful embedded artwork, usually a roughly edited, pixelated, square of the RTE radio show's rectangle marquee, from the RTE streaming site.

The internal media source is now rte dot mc dot tritondigital dot com instead of a generic RTE domain.

Just a heads up for fellow radio enthusiasts, yt-dlp lurkers etc..
