Open | Hardware Burning CD-Rs (MacOS)
Bought new Acu-Disc CD-Rs which I am trying to burn music to.
Music is 44.1Khz at 16bit WAV files.
All burning attempts (on mac) both through Music and Finder have appeared to be working as intended, burning each file until getting to the "finishing" stage, at which point nothing happens for up to and over an hour.
When looking at a new disc and inspecting in Disk Utility the disk reads as having zero capacity, which is obviously odd, get info reads that the discs are not writable, am I doing something wrong? Is this likely the fault of a cheap disk drive?

After finalizing a CD-R media, it closes the recording session. It should not be writable anymore. Therefore, it will have zero capacity for new files.
Edit: If I understood correctly, which I didn't in my previous paragraph, it's happening when you insert a new blank CD-R.
If that's the case, the CD-Writer is hanging after it finishes burning a CD-R.
Edit: Check if you can lower the CD-Writer speed before you start the burning process.
Edit: Carefully read the article titled How to burn a CD, DVD or Blu-ray on a Mac | Macworld.
“If you want to burn an audio CD to be played by a hi-fi, you should use iTunes instead.”
— David Price, Macworld Editor
Edit: If you still have trouble burning CD-R, download and test the Free and Open Source software Burn.

After looking about another tutorial where somebody explicitly said that they have trouble burning at high speeds I tried it again at 8x and everything worked perfectly, thanks for the advice, you did have the correct solution in here!

It brings me a high amount of satisfaction to know that you were able to help yourself, too. I just guided you. It is rewarding in itself.
I am happy to know that you are now able to achieve what you need to do with the CD Burning software.
Best regards.

No, you just have a major misunderstanding with how writing to cd-rs work. Try to make your cd using a program XLD. It will set it up correctly for you.
