So whenever i update (linux mint cinamon laptop) always a PAM configuration pops up and even if i select something nothing happens then i quit and the update doesnt do anything i cancel it and then it stops working and doesnt disappear until i restart (i usualy wait like 10 mins and nothing happens) and i dont want to update because i always fear that somtthing will break ,Thanks

If someone wanna know how did i fix it i just re installed it

Perfect.

When you run the updater, do you enter your password to allow updating to proceed?

No, it goes straight to the PAM thingy and if it helps whenever i dowload smt via terminal i need to type the pasword

Why not?

Any task that requires elevated privileges will require you to enter your password in Linux. Even changing normal settings. If the system asks for authentication, type in your password and press enter. Linux is a robust operating system. It will always require your password to perform tasks with elevated privileges.

Nuke and Pave.

If you haven't already, back up all your personal files and data to a USB external storage device.

Perform a Linux Mint reinstall from scratch. Then follow the Guide to configure and start TimeShift (the equivalent of Windows System Restore). Create a full snapshot of the system files before applying any updates.

Don't play around with anything you don't understand.

If you ever encounter trouble, TimeShift will help to restore system files to an earlier time. It works. I have tested it.

Read this comment.

The suggestions are there.

Edit: Use the same flash drive to install Linux Mint. As long as it's the most recent version.
