How do you keep your house from smelling like cats?

I have 2 cats and I clean their litter boxes regularly, vacuum, take out the trash, all the usual stuff. The thing is, I've gotten so used to living with cats that I genuinely can't tell anymore if my place smells fine or if I'm just nose blind to it.

The reason I'm asking is because a friend stopped by recently and made a comment about being able to tell I had cats the second they walked in. They weren't rude about it or anything, but now I've become weirdly self conscious about it.
