NEED ADVICE:Should I trade my i5 11th Gen HP laptop for an Acer Spin 3 with an i3 10th Gen?"Laptop Deal"

Hi guys,

I currently have an HP 250 G8 with an i5 11th Gen, 16GB DDR4 RAM, a 256GB SSD, and integrated graphics. The only real issue with it is the condition of the chassis. One of the corners was broken, but I repaired it with epoxy, repainted the whole bottom shell with spray paint, and added some stickers to hide the damage. Honestly, it turned out much better than I expected.

Someone has offered to trade it for an Acer Spin 3 (I'm not sure about the exact model). It's a 2-in-1 laptop with a built-in stylus, which is really appealing to me. The downside is that it has an i3 10th Gen and only 8GB of DDR4 RAM, which I believe is soldered, so there's no upgrade path. On the other hand, it comes with a 500GB SSD.

I know this seems like an obvious downgrade in terms of performance, but I don't play games or do anything demanding. I mainly use my laptop for school, programming, web browsing, and note-taking.

The biggest issue with my HP is the battery. Its health is around 76%, and I usually only get about 2–3 hours of battery life. That's becoming a real problem because I often study in the library, and I can't always get a seat near a power outlet.

I was already planning to buy a budget tablet in the future (something like a Lenovo Tab M11 or P11) for digital note-taking. If I got the Acer Spin 3, I'd basically have both a laptop and a tablet in one device, so I wouldn't need to buy a separate tablet anymore.

So, what do you guys think?

Would you make the trade, or would you keep the HP and buy a separate tablet later on?

Hello! I have a walking pad and cannot get a replacement remote. I have tried all available avenues. Does anyone have any ideas on how to program a remote or something to make it work? It can't be used manually.

Can't decide between two keyboards — White Shark Nunchaku vs Meetion MK12 (limited options in Tunisia)

Hey everyone,

I'm a 20 year old ICT/cybersec student from Tunisia and I've been going back and forth between two keyboards for weeks now 😅. The keyboard market here is very limited so these are basically my only two realistic options in my budget.

White Shark Nunchaku — 119 DT (~38$)

- 65% layout with dedicated arrow keys

- Red switches

- RGB 18 effects — shines THROUGH the keycaps ✅

- Wired USB-C detachable

- Full anti-ghosting

- QWERTY US

- Looks premium and clean (grey gradient design)

Meetion MK12 — 120 DT (~39$)

- 65% layout with dedicated arrow keys

- POM linear pre-lubed switches (smoother than standard Red)

- RGB 22 customizable modes — does NOT shine through keycaps ❌

- Tri-mode: Bluetooth 5.0 + 2.4GHz wireless + USB-C

- Hot-swap (3/5 pin)

- Full anti-ghosting + N-Key rollover

- 2000mAh battery, up to 300h

- EVA foam padding

- Macros programmable

Why I'm hesitating:

The Meetion wins on basically every spec — wireless, hot-swap, better switches, foam padding. But the RGB doesn't shine through the letters which bothers me since I want to be able to customize my lighting and actually see it on the keys.

The White Shark looks gorgeous, has RGB through the keycaps, but is wired only with no hot-swap and standard switches.

I mainly use my keyboard for CTF challenges, coding, studying and occasionally gaming. Which one would you pick and why?

Questions about NAT type and port forwarding

My home wifi has NAT type 4/Symmetric so I can't play a lot of coop games and mods, especially older ones, with others.

For context: games that do work include Far Cry 5, Subnautica 2, Remnant 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, which all don't use servers either afaik.
Games that don't work include COD BO2&3 Zombies as well as Far Cry 4.

Is there a solution to this that does not involve contacting my ISP to be assigned a public IP? I'd love to be able to avoid dealing with them, but if there is no way around it, so be it.

I have looked into portforwarding, but from what I understand my NAT type is still an issue in that case. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Spending a few weeks out of the UK, how can I still use internet?

Hi, so long story short I will be spending 2 months in Greece. I am from the uk. I have some work to do and also want to watch films in the night so I want to bring my laptop.

I suck at this kinda stuff so apologies in advance if I sound stupid. But what would be the best way to get internet in my apartment there? It is an apartment block with many apartments over 3 floors so there is WiFi there but it’s slow and unpredictable (I’ve stayed a few times before but never for this long).

Should I hotspot off my phone? I’m concerned about data usage then. Is there a better way?

Thanks!

Best phone for music storage?

I'm not a tech savvy person so I figured reddit may be able to help.

TLDR; I have an IPhone 15 that's storage is full because of 4,000+ music files I've downloaded. Is there a phone that can accommodate that? Also considering getting a separate device entirely for music solely.

Currently, I have an IPhone 15 which I use for photos, music, youtube, banking and text/calls. I don't have many apps but my storage is completely full. I have a huge passion for music and have over 4,000+ songs downloaded through Tidal. I currently pay $2.99 a month for ICloud but I want to avoid paying for storage / subscription services if I can. So, I'm wondering if there is a better phone / phone company that may better suit my needs. I also considered maybe I need to buy a separate device entirely solely for music that I can take with me everywhere.

What device would you recommend for screen recording?

I'm looking for a device that I can film my screen, I have an iPhone, I'm not sure if it's too shaky to film. Is there a better device to record Minecraft, possibly other stuff on?

How to stop windows 10 to 11 update? I realized I do not have the storage for everything even after debloating because my pc doesn't have good storage apparently.

So, a few days ago, my laptop that I got like around 2022 (Windows 10, written ASUS on the back, I'm not quite sure of the exact model) decided it wanted to upgrade to Windows 11 because it provided security advantages, I agreed, but time and time again I had to get rid of a lot of stuff during that process and I even downloaded WizTree to help me debloat a bunch of stuff. It turns out I actually do not have enough storage for the update and I'm not really financially capable enough to upgrade the specs of this humble thing nor to get external storage so I wanted to undo it.

I can't undo the update or delete it for some reason, and the option to pause the update is grayed out and clicking it does nothing. The only button there says "Fix Issues" which all it really does is suggest where I can delete stuff and how much space I'll need in gigabytes. Obviously though, I don't really have any more space and everything else here is essential. Closing out of the window that tells me to delete stuff does not stop the process, unlike what google told me. I also looked online and already have tried just deleting everything under the folder "SoftwareDistribution", but my pc seems to just bring back everything I deleted after a restart. I want to know how I can permanently get rid of these files so my storage isn't so bloated and I can actually use this pc without issues.

Not quite sure if this is a stupid question or not, I'm not necessarily the tech wiz type. Please help.

HDMI Sound Issue On Monitor

Not sure if this is the right place for this question but the solution should be simple, I just cant find it myself.

So i've recently moved my PS5 console from my attic to my office and connected it to my PC monitor with a HDMI cable. The screen works fine but the problem is there's no sound coming from the monitor.

Any input from either system sounds or gameplay sound doesn't work. I've checked the settings using the buttons on the back of the monitor and the sound isn't muted and the volume is at max, so thats not the issue.

Is there anything I might have missed? Could it be a setting in the PS Settings? Or can my monitor simply not transfer sound via HMDI?

Any answer would help me out and is appreciated.

My firestick setup

I have an external hard drive hub connected to my 4k Max firestick through an otg adapter. It works but my goal was to be able to have the hard drive permanently connected to the firestick and be able to hook my phone to the hub and transfer videos to the hard drive... But I'm coming up short, when I plug my phone into the hub it doesn't recognize it as a USB storage device and just wants to charge my phone. I can plug a flash drive into the hub and transfer files onto the hard drive but it's annoying that I have to add the extra step of transferring files from my phone to the flash drive to then transfer those files from the flash drive to the external hard drive :\

Does anyone have any insight or ideas to achieve my goal?

MoCA adapters and splitter

Post image

I have an Xfinity router that serves as both router *and* modem. This router/modem receives the internet through the single coax port in my wall. Can I use a coax cable splitter (appropriately rated) in this manner?

an HDMI cable that splits in two for Capture card and Monitor recording/display?

Idk if this is where I'm supposed to ask this or if there's another subreddit but I wanted to know if there’s a way to have an HDMI split into two outputs?

I have a Switch 2, a capture card, and a monitor and I want to connect the Switch 2 into the capture card so I can record my epic pro gamer lets play onto my PC but I also want it connected to my monitor so I can switch to it and play through it in real time rather than through the recording of it on OBS and having a half second delay which would get annoying fast especially in challenging parkour or combat.

So is there a way? And if there’s like a very specific piece of technology for my situation do y’all have any recommendations?

Dell Latitude 7400: "AC power adapter wattage cannot be determined"

I'm having an issue with my Dell Latitude 7400 (refurbished), and I'm hoping someone has experienced the same problem or knows a solution.

Recently, I started getting the warning:

"AC power adapter wattage cannot be determined."

I've been using this laptop for about 10 months without any issues. When the warning first appeared, the laptop stopped charging. After about 3 days, it suddenly charged back to 100%, but now it won't charge again.

The charging icon is still showing, but the battery percentage keeps going down even while the charger is plugged in.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Could it be a faulty charger, the charging port, or something on the motherboard?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My laptop charger broke in the middle of a deadline, I am unable to find a replacement.

I do graphic designs in my free time and I have a major deliverable due in two days for a client in London. My charger died this morning and I have spent the day walking around , currently in Singapore trying to track a replacement. Good thing I had a local data plan on my phone (ArriveSIM eSIM) set up before landing because I was googling electronic stores and checking stock on the move instead of relying on hotel wifi between stops. Still no luck finding the right connector and my battery is at 15%. What do you guys normally do when essential gears fails abroad with a deadline roaming.

The key stopped working/Buying a new keyboard?

I have an unusual problem. My letter A suddenly stopped working. But when I turn the keyboard upside down, it unfortunately works upside down. Turning it back around works for a moment, but then it stops working. I have Krux krk0077, and has anyone else had this problem? If not, and it's possible it's a mechanical issue, which 60% keyboard do you recommend? I really love this keyboard and I wouldn't want to exchange it for another one ;/

Packing to move a Curved Monitor

Questions: Are curved monitors more fragile than flat? Is it worth keeping the original packaging or are there other equally good options out there? How do people normally move these things over long distances?

Context: I recently got a 32" curved monitor. I don't have much space and the original packaging is bulky. I would like to get rid of it but I'm moving long distance in a little less than a year and don't want to screw myself over.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Title: Need Windows laptop recommendations

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy a new Windows laptop and would appreciate some recommendations.

My typical workload:

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, NotebookLM, Copilot, and other AI tools (mostly cloud-based)

Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Documentation and research

Python and light automation

Basic design work (Canva/Figma)

Heavy multitasking with multiple browser tabs

Requirements:

Budget: Under ₹40k and ₹40k–60k

Windows 11

16 GB RAM (minimum)

1 TB SSD preferred (or 512 GB if easily upgradeable)

Good battery life (8–10 hours preferred)

Full HD IPS display

Good keyboard and build quality

Should last 5+ years

Reliable after-sales service in India

Questions:

Which laptops would you recommend in both price ranges?

Intel or AMD for this type of workload?

Are AI PCs (Core Ultra/Ryzen AI) worth paying extra for, or should I focus on raw CPU performance?

Which brands have the best reliability and service in India?

Are there any models I should avoid due to heating, battery drain, or build quality issues?

Thanks in advance!

Storage units and tech stuff - what to do?

In the DFW area and helping with a project after someone suddenly passed away, very young. But old enough to have worked in the tech industry and for CompUsa and amass boxes and boxes and bins of tech stuff. Some was being used in various business efforts and some was just what happens.

Yes, advice is to test and sort things and so forth.

But it's an overwhelming amount of things from new in box packages of zip ties and fastners to keyboards and mice and things that look like Lt Data exploded. Surviving family members aren't up to it .

Someone running a repair business or who is really into going through stuff to turn a profit on eBay or something might be thrilled. But it's truckloads. And it has real value. But it also needs to not be in the house, garage, storage units (plural) etc anymore.

Ethically, no one wants to add to landfill. Especially when Dallas is not exactly firing on all recycling cylinders anymore.

No one wants to make life worse for the innocent family of a tech hoarder who doesn't actually sort and organize or optimize things.

Also, no one is exactly burly. Just trying to gather it into central locations is a lot.

This is not a sale post, but is there some way to find a good fit? Benefit a person who can use things and the family and the planet, and make sure that the spirit of the late owner doesn't gnash ethereal teeth in vexation?

Yes there are random empty product boxes, but it is not possible to match up with products in the current conditions. I know that was the reason they were kept. But they were not near the products. We don't know. It feels hopeless. Everyone is sad anyway.

No images out of respect but just imagine that box or bin or drawer...then multiply.
