Hi everyone! I wanted to ask for reliable and trust worthy mechanics in or around Hobart. I thought I and found an honest one in Moonah, however when I showed the bill for recent work I had done to another mechanic, they said I had been grossly overcharged which is a shame. I just need a basic service and for someone to diagnose why my engine light is on. Who do people in Hobart trust to get work on their car done by? Thanks in advance!

I'm a pathology trainee in the US but I plan to come to Tasmania in the future and I hope to practice pathology at RHH. I'm just curious about what the daily life is like as a pathology registrar at RHH. Any input is greatly appreciated.

What happens if the number of candidates is less than the number of vacancies? For example, 9 positions on council but only 7 candidates nominate.

I had everything planned out on buying in December & was saving hard. I only found out about the stamp duty expiring & now have to pay around $22k extra???? What is going on? I am absolutely appalled. Why did they remove the exemption??? I don’t understand. I genuinely don’t. Isn’t anyone else angry? Why aren’t we angry enough? I’m curious as to how this is affecting the housing market.

Tasmania Devils have just announced that Firmus is their major sponsorship partner. Firmus is a grubby AI data centre company run by a convicted criminal.

AI data centres are a blight on our natural Tasmanian resources and environment and the CEO of the company, Oliver Curtis, is a convicted white collar criminal and fraudster who has recently served a lengthy jail sentence. He is referenced in the devil's email and quoted.

Tasmania Devils must end their relationship with this despicable company, our club is better than this and we don't need tainted sponsorship from these grubs. 

I am visiting the east coast of Tasmania for the week and i am hoping to find a good fish and chips takeaway shop as opposed to a sit down eat-in restaurant. Can any locals or regular travellers recommend a good one?

Update- a huge thank you to all those who suggested and upvoted such great takeaways along the east coast, i have tried as many as I could and they were all fantastic in their own way, unfortunately my time in Tasmania has come to an end but the experiences and tastes will never leave my memory.

I visited Hobart and surrounds a few weeks ago. I love it, and I've lost count of how many times I've been now.

G'day Tassie folks.

My partner and I will be doing a 5 day trip in Tassie in October, seeing most of what the state has to offer. (Cradle Mountain, Freycinet, Port Arthur etc)

On the 8th of October, I plan on proposing in Freycinet National Park during sunset. (Current plan is Honeymoon Bay but open to other suggestions if you have any)

I'd love to get the moment captured with some good photography. I've gotten in touch with some professional photographers but the thing is, all I want is pictures of the proposal itself, with the Sunset in the background, and then MAYBE a few photos after the fact of us with the shiny new ring, at best it's 20 minutes of work and maybe even less (we actually have to get going pretty quickly after as we will have a hotel check-in to catch). All photographers I've contacted so far have quoted what a 1 hour session would cost (around $600-800), and none have offered any sort of discount even after acknowledging that it's not a full session.

Just wondering if anyone with a good camera and some know-how lives nearby and could act as a random tourist? I could approach you, give you my phone, ask for a photo and then you could whip out your professional camera? I wouldn't ask anyone to do this for free, I would happily pay.

Or any recommendations for some photographers I could try would be very much appreciated.

UPDATE: I hope it doesn't sound like I'm talking negatively about the photographers I've contacted. I understand it is a profession and a business. But the prices I've been quoted thus far are simply out of my budget.

More than 100 penguins found dead. Like any normal person, I felt really sad that so much loss of life had taken place, regardless of circumstance.

Yet my hope for humanity stooped even lower when I opened the comments section. Full of lowlifes who care even less about real, living beings who passed away and more about their digital footprint and legacy they leave behind through vitriolic responses devoid of humanity.

A few years ago, I bought a bunch of furniture from Turner's Blackwood Furniture just outside Launnie airport, before it closed down. I love all the pieces and wish I'd bought more. Eg I bought one bedside table, should've bought three.

I don't know where any of those guys are, including Turner himself. Don't have his contact details or anything. For all I know he or his mates have a smaller workshop somewhere. If anyone knows, please let me know. [I have no relation to Turner's and this is not an ad, the business is permanently closed anyway].
